Just in time to pay my tax bill

    • How do u use the gift cards to pay the tax bill? I thought they could only be used in Apple stores? Thx.

      • -2

It was a joke. There's a common scam where people receive a spam call and are told to buy Apple (and other) gift cards to pay their bill.

Do you really think the Australian Tax Office wants Apple gift cards? Come on mate, use your noggin.

        • +2

I see. Apple cash is available in North America so literally they can use Apple gift cards when paid by Apple cash. I thought you had figoured out some ways to do that in Australia as well. Thx for explanation.

        • Maybe use your noggin and not post statements like these that could actually confuse people that are not aware.

      • You CANNOT use them for tax bill. This user is being flippant referring to the ATO overseas SCAM where they ask for Apple Gift cards.

  • Does that equate to about 10% off?

    • Yes.

FYI I'm going through an issue with Apple where I cannot use my Apple balance to purchase hardware. They were redeemed to my account and are able to be used with Apple care / iCloud monthly payments, however whenever I try to purchase hardware it won't process past the page where I apply the Apple balance.

Apple support told me the Apple account balance cannot be used to purchase hardware. I call them out on it immediately as I have definitely used it to purchase hardware in the past. Got asked to send screenshots of the checkout process and they will get back to me.

Got the same couple of years back when purchasing hardware item using Apple store balance from one of these deals. Took hours on phone to (US) support to fix it.
Next time will just take vouchers to Apple Store itself.

      • A guy from Apple Support just rang. He firstly apologised for doubting that the Apple Balance could be used for purchases. Said he's pushed it up the chain. Suggests that for any future purchases I ring up and order over the phone. Better than nothing, but unfortunately prevents me from using Cashrewards etc to get a bit of cashback at the same time.

Do you know what you said / did specifically to get it resolved? Seems like the person who took ownership of my case didn't really know what was going on.

        • If your Apple ID has been associated with Apple Business this could be the issue. There is an error that gets presented on the backend somewhere that indicates that payment cannot be made with a stored balance / gift cards. Yes, an order can be place over the phone (the phone rep may get this error too and needs to do something to get past it) or you can order through the Apple Store app on iPhone. Unfortunately, neither of these options allows for tracking.

Worth asking if you can have the balance transferred to another Apple ID and see if you can order through that account.

          • @luckygreen: Never had my account associated with Apple Business. Also, the Apple Store app didn't work either. One of the first things I tested.

I'll just do phone orders if needed. Once the credit is used up I'll never buy apple gift cards again. Or at least never redeem them to my account and wil instead wait until purchase to use them.

            • @jolegape: There goes my theory. I've had the same issue and was able to successfully use the Apple Store app to complete the transaction with Apple Pay (even though the credit covered the entire purchase)

If you are redeeming them directly at checkout in the future you may still want to use a different Apple account.

  • Can I buy iPhone 15 by these gift cards?

    • +1

      ofcourse. you can

But you cannot buy bananas at Coles. Never lock into the Apple marketing ;)

The Apple gift cards sold in this deal can be used to pay for an iPhone sold at physical Australian Apple Stores, the various Apple Online Stores in Australia (including EPP portals, which may sell iPhones with a small upfront discount) or over-the-phone at 133 MAC.

The Apple gift card redemption limits are:

      • 8 in one online transaction, although you can get around this by adding them to your Apple Account Associated Balance first… unless you are this person.

      • 8 in one over-the-phone sale at 133 MAC (and Apple Account Associated Balances are redeemable here too).

      • 20 in one instore transaction (and you cannot consolidate multiple Apple gift cards into one at an Apple Store to get around this limit, plus you cannot use Apple Account Associated Balances in a physical Apple Store).

The redemption limits should not really matter toyou, because the Apple gift cards sold through previous 20x Flybuys points deals at Coles include the $200 denomination and variable load $20-$500 denomination, so you should be able to purchase enough Apple gift cards to be within the applicable limits.

    • Yes. I bought my iPhone 13 Pro in 2021 with the Woolies promotion.

These run too often that it's not even a big deal anymore

  • I am yet to spend the card I bought the last time

  • Will these be electronic or physical only?

    • +1

      Physical

  • Interestingly, they've done away with the five card limit. You're now just limited to 50,000 Flybuys points per day:

    • Does this mean 5 x $500 cards per day as opposed to 5 x $500 card for the entire promotion week (which is how it ran previously)?

      • +2

That’s correct. They don’t mention a card limit at all so you could theoretically buy dozens of smaller denomination cards each day as long as the total amount does not exceed $2,500.

  • These gift cards can be redeemed for Apple ID to pay for iCloud and Apple Music subscriptions right?

Also, does anyone know if I buy this with an amex credit card, will it look like regular purchases or will it be counted as cash advance? Trying to see if I can get points on it too (and even perhaps the 3x points because this is a supermarket!)

Yep, that is what I do myself.

does anyone know if I buy this with an amex credit card, will it look like regular purchases or will it be counted as cash advance?

All my purchases at Coles using an AMEX have been treated as regular purchases, including purchases of gift cards. Actually, now I think about it, I don’t think I have ever used my AMEX at Coles to purchase anything other than gift cards…

Trying to see if I can get points on it too (and even perhaps the 3x points because this is a supermarket!)

Coles uses MCC 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets) for purchases of gift cards, so it will appear to AMEX that you have spent heaps of money at a merchant categorised as a supermarket and therefore should be eligible for 3x points.

Thanks!! That sounds great, I get to double dip on points haha

  • Just bought 2 gift cards, one $500 and the other between $50 and $500.

How long does it take to get the Flybuys points credited to my account?

    • It should be credited onto your Flybuys account around 5pm Sydney/Melbourne time tomorrow, although in rare cases it could take an extra day or two.

    • Hi just checking if you managed to get the 20x flybuys points for the $500 gift cards? I’d prefer to get the variable loading cards but a bit worried they won’t be eligible for the 20x flybuys points… thanks!

  • Can someone confirm there’s no card limits? My local store t/c mentioned 5 card and total 50,000 point per account, NOT per day.

    • Checked online catalogue yes they mentioned daily and not card limits. Shop should make sure they got the updated promotion information.

  • Hello has anyone successfully received the 20x flybuys points for the variable loading gift cards eg for value of $300 or $500? Asking cause the t&c states that it excludes $20 gift cards, and then gives examples of the flybuys points applicable for $30/$50/$100/$200 gift cards, but doesn’t say anything about variable load cards… would prefer to buy $500 variable load gift cards but a bit worried. Thanks!

  • I got some - and then realized Apple and every fuuking digital retail outlet has DRM on their shows/movies = WTF. I can't playback m4v on some of my permanently dis-connected from the internet devices let alone install iTunes for playback purposes. What happened to mp4 DRM free. If you buy Blu-ray/4k your free to do whatever you want with your purchases inc. resale (*common-sense). Digital rights seriously needs to change in OZ and perhaps even globally! - We should have the right to buy and resell digital content. Just include a code in some digital ledge like bitcoin purchases etc.
