Been looking for a 4k usb-c monitor for my MacBook pro and came across this.
Still contemplating on buying it but I'm guessing it's a good deal for a 4k usb-c monitor with 96W PD.
And seems like the lowest it's been so far.

  • I got a 27" LG 27UP550N-W for $399 from Mwave about six weeks ago USB-C 90W, HDR10, Freesync etc, I wish I had bought two at that price actually

    • I think the 27UP850N-W is slightly superior than the LG 27UP550N-W. Why not but one of these for an extra $50?

Is this monitor actually any good?

      • That price has been and gone anyway. I keep watching for it to drop but $485 was the lowest I found. Price matched with JB and used discounted gift cards and perks to bring the second one down to about $430.

If you are happy with HDR400 as opposed to HDR10 then go for it. There are probably other differences but that is the main one the matters to me.

Apparently the 850N and the 850 differ in their PD specs. The 850N only does 90W PD

Thanks for posting… been looking for something with USB-C passthrough. Tired of dongles and docks.

Dell S2722QC is around the same price and similarly specced. Great monitor too. Selling mine only because I snagged a good price on a 32 inch

    • I have both, and both are great monitors. Primary use case is graphic design and development on MacBook.

For gaming on XSX/PS5 the LG has the edge with slightly better contrast ratios, brighter but not amazing HDR, and a nice sharpening feature, but this is certainly no OLED.

      • I wish I could afford a couple of OLEDs. Those Samsung Odyssey monitors look amazing.

I’m probably just going to wait for OLED.
I’m stubbornly wanting the clarity of IPS with the refresh and vibrancy of VA..

      • Its only 60 hertz so it's not ideal for new gen console gaming regardless.

        • Just providing a review of the two options, clearly these are design/productivity oriented monitors and not targeting HFR gaming. As a bonus they do work quite nicely for the consoles 30/60fps bread and butter if needed.

          • @xdirex: Do you reckon the LG 27UP550N-W version will be better than this with HDR10? I'm not a gamer but the monitor will be mainly for work, spreadsheets,Photoshop and illustrator. And for occasional netflix and ps5/4 maybe.

            • @findthatbargain: Technically it's a lower end model, so colour uniformity and contrast levels won't be quite as good. Also, while it's HDR10 compatible I wouldn't expect dark blacks and eye searing sunrises with this model due to the dimmer backlight.

Note my 850 model doesn't go completely black either, but the uniformity is great and the HDR has a little pop.

Having said that it reviews decently, has good colour accuracy and would be more than suitable for mostly productivity use with some Adobe in the mix. Personally the lack of USB-C is the main dealbreaker as I'm on a MacBook and it's just so convenient.

    • 65W PD only which won't power my MBP unfortunately.

      • 15W PD on the DELL G3223D powers my 14" MBP, just, with light use of course. I wouldn't think 65W is a deal breaker for this monitor, but 15W probably is for the DELL for more than light use.

      • Oh that’s no good. I only got an Air, worked sweet with that but makes sense the pro would suck more juice.

      • No it got 90W PD

        • +1

65w is probably referring to the dell.

          • @watts: Think I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy this LG, I can claim GST as well as it's for work. So it'll be a decent $400ish.

  • So the same deal is available with Kogan ebay as well. Not sure who's easy to deal with warranty-wise. I suppose Kogan as they are a bigger company.

  • What exactly does the 90W mean? If my laptop power supply of 65W will this be an issue?

    • +2

No, it means the monitor has more than enough to power it
