  • does it come w a pen

    • +2

      Digital Pen Included: No

      Description updated.

  • Dang, is the pen worth it?

    • +3

If you have access to the Lenovo EDU Store, you can purchase the Lenovo USI Pen 2 for $39.90.

      • Can we stack 5xUltimate HomeGift Cards at officeworks online or instore to purchase this?

        • +1

From my understanding, you can ask for 'split payments' and use the gift cards (but would be dependent on the employee/manager).

I'm not sure, but maybe @WookieMonster would know.

EDIT: WookieMonster wrote a section in the Gift Card FAQ answering the question

    • Depends on your usage. If you do writing, drawing…then yes. If you use it for consuming media then no need. The keyboard and a BT mouse will be more than enough. Yes you can do a BT mouse, touch screen with finger…

I haven't used my pen that I got from Lenovo store.

  • +2

    Damn that's a good deal!

I looked at one of these on the weekend (but it was the 4GB version for $499)

    • +1

      And 128GB storage vs 256GB.

  • +3

Man I've got a gaming desktop, I've got a laptop, so I really don't need this.. But I really want one for some reason lol

Do we think the Duet 3 8gb is going to go on sale soon too?

    • +4

so I really don't need this.. But I really want one for some reason lol

isnt that why most of us are here really :)

    • +2

I got the Duet 3 8GB for $399 and sold it. It just didn't feel right and I am deeply entrenched in the Google ecosystem.

This one is tempting because OLED, larger screen and double the storage

      • +1

i think it would look good..for you?

      • +1

That's a good deal for the 8gb version of the Duet 3. Was it just the screen size you didn't like, or something else?

I'm actually leaning toward that one because of the smaller screen. I feel like it would be more comfortable to hold while on the couch/train.

        • +4

The battery life wasn't great, ChromeOS felt weird. and I could achieve the same thing with Samsung Dex and a portable screen.

My travel setup is my Galaxy S23 Ultra, 13in portable monitor, Logitech BT mouse, and RK61 Pro keyboard.

I use a Surface Pro 5 at home and wrote a novel about why I chose it in this post: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774731

          • @rosebank: That's great to hear that you can use dex by itself while travelling. What kinds of tasks are you doing, do you do video calls while having other screens open?

            • +2

@wearytraveller: Just basic shit like emails, streaming, messaging, browsing etc. It's essentially a phone on a big screen with multitasking, and I leave the phone screen off. I try to avoid video conferences so haven't tried dual screen.

  • Whats the point of having a Chromebook? It does not even function as much as an android phone does.

    • +1

idk about everyone else but i would consider it just as an rdp access device.

like yes i can rdp using my phone but the user experience…is not good.

    • +3

i use mine like I do an ipad

Google apps on google tablets usually look pretty crap, ive had zero issues on chromebook

    • +4

I no longer take a laptop while travelling because of having a Chromebook.

      • +2

        Same.

    • +1

Depends on your usages. Great as a content consuming device, great as a gaming device. The keyboard and trackpad makes this infinitely more comfortable to use compared to an android phone.

  • How's this stack up against the refurbed MS surface pro 6's on sale (with included keyboard cover)?
    - Price is basically the same.
    - I understand it's not the same OS but form factor/size is similar and am planning to use for similar needs when going on an overseas holiday soon (use: browsing web, streaming, online/offline map access, don't need native MS office apps as will use gsuite apps).
    - Have tried this particular Lenovo model in person and the keyboard and build quality is not as good as the MS, but the screen on the Lenovo is obviously better and it's a newer product.
    - Am not sure about processing power comparison between Lenovo and older surface pros.

    • +1

as long as the refurb was done legit i would go the spro 6 if the price is same and includes the keyboard cover.

    • +1

Y'all got a link to the MS surface pro 6's on sale?

      • +1

Might be referring to this deal, which is currently $439.12 with code JUNEOFY12B.

      • Yep, see comment from RichardL

    • where are these refurbs at?

  • +1

I don’t really need it but pulled the trigger at this price. I justify it that it has support until 2030. So it can get around 7 years of use. Apparently though it comes with Android 9 and only just be updated to Android 11. From the research I did. I also been told to avoid the 4gb model, which you can find a bit cheaper than this but not much. Look at this way, the screen alone is probably worth $300.

    • +1

I have the 4gb Duet version and agree that 4gb of ram just isnt enough.

      • I've found after the latest Android update that apps are significantly slower, especially when starting.

        • Do u have the 4gb or 8gb model?

          • +1

            @Ronnnie: I have the 4gb

          • +1

@Ronnnie: I have the original Lenovo Chromebook Duet which I think only came as 4GB model.

I've found it to be excellent for video calls, because the noise cancelling is excellent.

  • +1

Forcing you to use web versions of Google apps is silly and was one of the reasons I ditched the older version of this. Plus it ran terrible, which isn't a reflection of this version.

  • +2

Thanks OP, grabbed one. I have the original 4GB Duet version and its been fine but sometimes its frustrating that when it wakes up it freezes. Its going to become a kids device to watch stuff on.

  • Don't know how the ultimate giftcards thing work, doesn't say 10% off when I'm there.

  • Damn I just bought the 4gb version from Bing Lee eBay for $480 last week!

Is hasn’t arrived yet so maybe worth trying to return and getting this instead….

    • +1

      Personally I would.

  • +1

Please note that the recent updates on Duet 4GB RAM have made it extremely slow. The keyboard does not work often and gets a regular error that the keyboard may be stealing data.

    • +2

Check your keyboard pins. One of the pogo pins or whatever it's called on my Duet 5 keyboard was a little bent and it kept messing up my keyboard connection and giving that error. I took it back to Officeworks and they gave me a new Chromebook (I literally broke the screen the night before because I was trying to show my husband and dropped it on the couch 😂) but the manager said the keyboard was a separate issue anyway and took the whole thing back.

  • Can this play TFT?

    • good question

    • Google tells me you may mean "Teamfight Tactics"? Installs and starts on mine. Sorry, didn't go further as I didn't feel like accepting what looked like very long Terms of Service :)

  • OOS now

  • They cancelled my order even though it said limited stock for C&C .. doh

  • Still allowing me to add to basket and almost ready to pay, would someone please buy the last few from Geelong!!

  • +2

    Still plenty available in brisbane

  • Only available in store in most states now check here for your local store https://officeworks.youinstock.com.au/search/leduet5cb

  • For those who had it, Ive been finding that after the past few updates my screen has been going to sleep when im watching videos . it didnt use to do that before and ive already looked at the power settings and it didnt stop that. Anyone else having this issue?
