Crompton PIR Motion Detector Floodlight Fitting - Clearance at Bunnings for $4.00 (was $14.00)

80

Saw these while wandering aimlessly around Bunnings yesterday. They're just cheapies and do not include the PAR38 bulbs but may fit the bill for someone wanting Motion Detector lights on a tight budget or just for parts for 'experimenting'. As you can see by the pic there was still quite a lot of stock at my local store (Salisbury QLD) however they may also be available at others around the country too.

Here's a closeup of the PIR Fitting mentioned above: http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/08/26/9246_imag0105_large_.…

They're also clearing out other PAR38 fittings in the range too including the following:

Obviously as these units are 240V Mains rated they will need to be installed by a licensed electrician… blah, blah, blah.

  • Bunnings in Perth had the "DIY" ones ( cord plugs into an existing bayonet socket) for $5, but they will cost a lot more in power bills.
According to the specs they uses 4W standby. How much do the Crompton ones use?

    • Sorry Manic, I'm not too sure what you're asking… maybe it's the Bunnings dust & manure fumes I was breathing while wandering yesterday ;)

'What' costs a lot more in power bills & why would it? I assume the ones you saw consume 4W on Standby so if you're asking how much the Crompton ones use then what brand were the ones you were looking at?

      Sorry, confused :S

'What' costs a lot more in power bills

Power cost is much higher than purchase cost. TCO = $4 plus $100 for 10 year standby, plus $50?? for 10 mins/day on.

Doesn't matter if they are free if they are high standby power.

        • Oh yes, totally agree. I just wasn't sure what you were asking that's all.

        • Are you really grumbling about $10/yr (<3c/day) for standby power?
          (I calc ~ $9/yr using 25c/Kw)

Well, it IS OzBargain so I suppose this is the place to quibble about saving money, even small amounts ;)

    • I have two different Crompton sensor lights (may or may not be the same model as this). I just checked for you and it doesn't mention the standby power :( And it's too much effort to unwire it and put a multimeter on it.

      • How long have you had them? Have they suffered from the typical UV deterioration problems most cheapies do? Would you recommend them to OzBargainers for $4?

        • He gave it a + vote, so "yeah"?

        • Sorry for the delay. I'd rate them as cheapies. They do the job but I don't think they're better than any of the other sensor lights Bunnings sell. The plastic on one has cracked a bit.

My local Bunnings had none, they were straight outta Crompton.
