  • How does Ryzen 7 compare to i7 intel?

    • -2

12700h handily beats the 6800h from most reports

For the first minute from when the Intel thermal throttles

        • even at 45w its 10% faster in cinebench multi, only scaling up from there

          From Techspot:
The end result is that the Core i7-12700H beats the Ryzen 7 6800H in most workloads. The margin can be narrow in some multi-threaded benchmarks, but on the whole the 12700H is on average 15 to 20 percent faster. And that's just at 45W.

If you have a system capable of pushing CPU power up to 75W, Intel's Alder Lake parts are closer to 25 to 30 percent faster, which is significant for apps that are heavy on the CPU. Ryzen 6000 just doesn't have the oomph at high power to match Intel's impressive scaling.

@Lonewolf1983: Ryzen has much better performance per watt at 45w TDP and below, where performance tanks on 12th and 13th gen. They need a high TDP at the expense of battery life and heat generation. Cinebench doesn't tell the full story.Considering that it has been optimised to use the E cores and P cores. Plenty of games/applications that aren't optimised tmand don't perform. They only have the advantage vs Zen 3 at high TDP. Ryzen 7000, Zen 4, laptops are starting to appear and are significantly better than Intel 12 and 13th gen with much less power draw.

Just have a look at the recent Notebook check review of the best Intel 13th gen vs the best Zen 4 Ryzen.

"Ryzen 9 7945HX beats Intel Core i9-13980HX despite much lower power consumption"

@shellshocked: yes this isnt a zen4 laptop…., and this is not a thin and light so would expect over 45w power draw on the CPU side

              • @Lonewolf1983: However if you want to use it as an actual laptop, you can actually get up to 9hrs productivity out of the G15, with a 6800H and the 86wh battery. Unfortunately you can't get that out of a 12th and 13th gen H series laptop due to the high power draw.

                • @shellshocked: its a gaming laptop so performance > battery life for the majority of users.
but yes my old 5800h one was very good on battery compared to my 11800h one

    • I don't think you should've been negged but I think the issue is your question is quite vague, you don't specify a generation and while it may be obvious you are talking about the current gen, it tends to vary generation to generation who takes lead whether it be intel or amd. I can't answer your question but I can say take a look more at the features having either architecture will give you, I know thunderbolt used to be an issue on amd but now they have USB4 so its fine. Things like that where you may be missing a key feature on either platform is what I would be focusing on more than pure speed, both are very capable chips. For pure horsepower you may need to seek out benchmarks

Deal is better with 15% cashback currently on offer from all 3 sites

    • i would not count on the cashback. they paid it once for me, the 2nd time they refused because it was on special. there was nothing in the T&C about the exclusion at the time.

hmmm this would be good for a small business :) nearly tax time too
I am tempted as I have a probook 4720s which is 14 years old :o

    dell G series with a 3060 gpu for $1500 isn't a deal.
Kraken with 3060 for $1200 was a deal.

  • Is the screen on this any good?
