Full credit to @crocaus for finding this

    • +1

Thanks for the post OP. As for using an iPhone 4 for trade in, it's not listed, only 5 & up.

  • Thank you OP and @crocaus
    What a killer deal

just reading the page and looks like this is for a * Carrier single SIM variant only. Device is unlocked, and works on all Australian networks.

sounds like this is for a device with a carrier bootscreen <~ therefore off the main tranch OS/firmware + security release stream ?

    • I'll update that info in. It seems that even JB sell this carrier version, so do shops like mobileciti/allphones. People seem to be fine with the carrier versions of find x5 lite from the popularity of the deal recently.

      • +1

        No worries, cheers mate

The biggest risk with a carrier version of the handset is, depending on the carrier's agreement with the manufacturer, there is a good chance that the firmware/Android OS + security updates are off Oppo's main release channel

I have a T-mobile OnePlus 7t Pro 5G McLaren edition, it is so locked and tied to T-Mobile (US), its last security patch update was Dec 2022 for Android 12…

not only fixes and patches is an issue, the lack of security update commitment because it is tied to the carrier is a big big risk if I am to daily drive a handset no longer receiving up-to-date security patches…

      • End of last year when JB did the promo with free oppo pad air, there is a retail unit, where it comes with dual physical sim. So these carrier version are probably the Telstra version with just single sim support only.

  • +1

Thanks OP and @crocaus. I don't need a new phone but this is ozbargain. Besides, I have old phones I need to dispose off.

  • Are there any other oppo phones with this sort of "discount"?

  • +8

$650 is a steal for this phone, if I didn't have an x3 pro that worked perfectly fine I'd jump on it. The Supervooc charging is worth it alone.

    • +7

Same here, but I'm using the X2 Pro 512G.

      • +4

Also the X2 pro, amazing phone and Supervooc is life changing.

        • +2

Sadly find X5 pro only has 256gb

        • Are you finding any valid reason to upgrade to the X5 pro? Since the last update my X2 Pro is now suprisingly smoother…

  • I have an iPhone SE gen 1 that works fine but from full charge only
Lasts about 20 mins before flat after turning on. The battery is badly needing replacing. Will that pass their test?

  • +2

Good stuff. Now, where can I buy a dirt cheap phone to trade-in?

    • +1

Make sure that "dirt cheap phone" is listed on their trade in page, plus the trade in value isn't the same/less than what you purchased it for.

  • +5

One of my old iPhone valued at $25… Not a good deal..
    https://trade-in.oppoaustralia.com.au/

    • +4

People in this thread seem to suggest that any phone produces the $750 discount. And then also that the actual trade-in value of the phone does not stack with this $750 discount.

If that is correct, then the $25 trade-in value for your iPhone doesn't really change if its a good deal or not

    • Just an ordinary deal in my opinion.

  • +1

    Iphone SE=$250

The trade in value page is here:

    https://trade-in.oppoaustralia.com.au/

  • +3

My 2020 Umidigi Bison - yeah, that's a phone - generates a $750 code at checkout for the Pro. It is not listed on the trade in page, though.

The Pro has been sub $900 without trade. Still pondering.

  • Is this better than pixel 7 pro

    • +1

Pixel 7 pro has improved immensely with the software updates.

    • +3

Nope…Pixel 7 pro is better in Camera, UI, pixel specific software features and regular updates. OPPO's is one of the worse when it comes to updates.

  • +1

Tried Fish and Chips to get full Trade in Value, works a treat. Obviously something not quite right with their system.

    • +1

I believe you can trade in any phone. In their terms and conditions it doesn't specify specific phones.

      • +1

yes, but with different trade in values though.

        • Apparently the trade-in code doesn't stack with the $750 promotional discount.

  • I assume they will bill your CC $1200 or $1400 if your trade in phone has $0 value…..More than these phones are worth so at your own risk

    • +3

Sign up with a card with no balance just in case. Pay for the phone with PayPal. Might prevent that from happening I guess

      • Worse comes to worse they could post back your phone and refund you the money. Possibly still worth a crack anyway.

        • Judging by the last trade-in deal I did, they don't wait to verify your trade-in before finalising the sale of the new phone, they do it retrospectively and charge your card if they deemed the quality was not as described.

So if that's the case in this seller as well they won't be able to refund your money since you already own the new phone. Otherwise you would be waiting up to 2 or more weeks for your new phone to arrive which would mean a lot of people wouldn't even bother buying it.

My last trade-in I didn't even send in my old phone until like 2 weeks after I purchased the new one in-store, that was Jb Hi-Fi though, YMMV.

          • @rekke: Just to clarify you can only send in the few brands and models listed https://trade-in.oppoaustralia.com.au/ for trade in?

It looks like the phones i had wanted to arent listed so if thats the case I might look for used a21 or something and try that.

      • (b) You authorise OPPO to charge the amounts described in Section 5(a) above to the same credit card or other payment method you used to purchase your New Device. If you do not have sufficient credit available, we will notify you and you must provide an alternative payment method.

        • Interesting it's in the T&Cs, but how could they enforce a secondary charge from PayPal without you authorising it as a subscription.

Also to get around this, I guess just send the cash to a secondary card and have the balance drop to around $0 after purchasing?

I would be interested to see how they could chase you for a payment and what the recourse would be if you didn't 'provide an alternative payment method' - don't see any credit application here. Might just be written off as unpaid receivables? YMMV, lol

          • +1

@rekke: It could affect your credit score i guess?

Having had a look at the T and Cs I'm more convinced now that sending in a low value device isn’t going to provide them with recourse for further charges.

It doesn't refer to a list of Eligible Devices

            (b) For a device to be an ‘Eligible Device’ for the purposes of the Trade-in Program, the device must:
            (i) be owned by you, and you must have the rights to the device. Any device that is under a lease will not be eligible for the Trade-in Program;

            (ii) not be lost or stolen and you must provide proof of ownership if requested by us to do so;

            (iii) not have a blocked IMEI number;

            (iv) be in good working order, and not contain any non-genuine parts or have any missing parts;

            (v) not be password locked; and

(vi) be wiped clean of any personal information and be logged out of all personal accounts including any iCloud or Google accounts.

And as long as you go through the process and get a code it seems sufficient

            1. Trading in your Eligible Device
              (a) To determine if your device can be part of the Trade-in Program, you will need to input your details and details about your device into our Website so that we may confirm whether the device can be traded in.
              (b) If your device is an Eligible Device, we will provide you with a Trade-in Code and information on how to use the Trade-in Code. The value of any Trade-in Code will be determined by OPPO in its sole discretion.
  • +2

If the trade-in process is similar to Samsung, I'll steer clear

  • your Google Pixel 2 XL, 64GB is valued up to
    A$45….seems I'll continue with pixel

  • So it's $650 as the sale price and then takeaway the additional trade-in value? e.g. Apple iPhone 8 Plus = $156 (quite generous, more than Officeworks) , so final sale price = $494 ?

    • Trying to figure out the same. Seems like too big of a discount and the website doesn't seem to clarify.

      • I wouldn't say it's too big, Jb Hi-Fi recently had a similar one for Samsung which was like $700 (incl phone value) + off the S23 series with a trade-in. I bought my Galaxy S23 for around $600 after stacking which was epic.

Just want to see if anyone here has gone ahead with buying one with the discount + trade-in voucher

        • +1

Me too. I have find x2 neo which is worth $420 (was only worth $90 for the Samsung deal which is why it felt too good to be true). That price for an upgrade is a no brainer.

          • +2

@Charlsie: Does seem a bit generous. I think this model is now superseded by the Find X6 so they are trying to offload their stock. The $420 trade-in value to Oppo is off their product, so technically $420 discount to their sale isn't anywhere near an actual $420 to them. And then they get the value of your trade-in phone so it's not too crazy to believe.

            • +1

@rekke: It's still listed at $999 if you google and go through their main page so I think this is the price if you trade in a phone and you don't get the value of the phone on top. In which case the older your trade in the better.

    • +2

Pretty sure it's just $750 outright regardless of trade in price

  • How are these compared to pixel 6a and poco f5?

I've been out of the phone market for 4 years now, still using a lgv50 and none of the new features interest me that much. But i do need a new phone due to low battery life, and I'll give in to having no head phone jack at this point.

    • does not compare IMO. last year's tech in Oppo Vs Poco F5 which has latest CPU, albeit a SD 7 series and not 8.

      • Is it though? I'm looking at the spec and they seem similar. Oppo seems to have a brighter screen, better ip rating, usb3 and wireless charging. Where as poco has Bluetooth 5.3.

I personally prefer poco only cause I have better luck getting decent support lineage OS on them, but they seem similar on surface value

    • Pixel experience is the best phone OS I've ever used

    • Look at the Nokia g60 5g. Was at a very good price at the good guys this week

  • OPPO A74 5G not accepted?

  • +5

My dad and I are using x5pro. The charging speed and cameras are phenomenal. Only thing I wish they could have added is the zoom could have been bigger. Everything else are flagship quality. For less than aud700 it's a no brainer.

    • +1

Concur. I grabbed this for $999 at JB with the free tablet deal. The camera is incredible on the x5 Pro.

Charging is as fast as you can get.

I play Call of Duty on it and it is flawless. Gaming is great.

  • How does Samsung S21 FE 5G compare?

Photos and close up photos. Mainly used for or browsing YouTube.

    • +3

This over anything older than S23 series and you won't find the S23 for this cheap.

  • im confused. what can trade in for 750?
there is no trade in offer for s21 why?

    • Try oppo find x

    • If you go to the main site it gives you more options.

      • where i cant find my model at all

        • It's like a scroll down box.

          • @JonSteele: Just had another look forgot I upgraded to S21, yes it is not listed, S20FE is.

Thinking just stay with it, don't upgrade to many variables going wrong.

        • So I asked CSR via email after Chat was same pathetic script. And?

Same result, got absolutely no where, he claimed it was what ever is on the website is what we want.

Same person who answered the chat, I don't think I will go OPPO in future.

    • If you add to cart (shows full price), then view cart, it will show the -$750 discount.
I tried it with Galaxy S10 and worked.

    • +1

You don't have to select it. Just type in the model. It will then give you the $700/$750 at the checkout.

  • +2

the trade in does not need to be functional , could be any dead phone
    you dont need to tick
Does your device power on and everything is functional?

    and still work

  • Does it affect the trade-in value if the screen is cracked?

    • Your phone trade-in value will be decreased, however not for the actual promotional trade-in discount though it seems.

  • i have samsung S9+ with cracked screen but it works , will they accept it ?

    • I don't see any clause regarding not to be cracked screen, so I guess should be ok?

  • +8

Upgraded from oppo x2 pro. Have to say oppo dropped the ball. The dynamic 120hz stutters on some webpages dropping it to 30hz but the main issue is the brightness. Comparing it with the x2 pro on the spec sheet is says x2pro is peak 1200nits and x5pro is 1300nits but in real life on max brightness the x2pro is more brighter. I have my x2pro on full brightness in outdoor sun and can see it comfortably. With the x5p I have to strain to see on max bright same conditions. In door I have the x2p at 25% brightness and the x5p on 70% brightness. See YouTube vid I posted https://youtube.com/shorts/puBQxmUl524?feature=share which I sent to oppo. They fobbed me of course, so don't rely on them. I compared my phone to a display phone at JB hi-fi, same issue so I don't have a dud. Reported them to ACCC for misleading brightness. Awaiting ACCC to get back to me

    • +3

I don't have those issues on my X5 Pro, bought from JB six months ago. I also run at 120hz, do you have any web pages for me to check with the refresh rate dropping?

I noticed you have auto brightness on for one phone, and off for the other in your video, have you checked to make sure that isn't causing issues?

I can easily view my X5 Pro in direct sunlight, and it's retina burning indoors if I have the brightness too high.

      • +4

Good thing to check. I hated using my Pixel 6 Pro outdoors for the first year, and just put up with it. Then I read the GSMarena review which pointed out that it only achieved "497 nits of maximum brightness using the manual slider. Peak brightness reached 860 nits when set to Adaptive Brightness". I turned on adaptive brightness, which for some reason I have never used on any phone, ever, and Yep, problem solved.

      • -2

Yep. I don't have auto brightness on, first thing I turned off. I looked at the video again, auto brightness is off. Do you happen to be in Sydney? Would love to compare phones, as I compared it with the display phone at JB hi-fi and it was exactly the same brightness. I just did this website page and get 30 to 60hz. I have my phone on max display rate. I'll update this post with a screen recording

        • +2

As in, auto brightness tends to show higher brightness when it's on, not off.

I'm in the Hills area if you want to compare. Ozbargain gives 120hz when scrolling, coming to a stop and there are no animations on screen goes as low as 1hz-5hz, as does all other sites and apps I've used.

If you do a screen recording, don't use the built-in recorder, it'll be capped to 60hz.

That said, I haven't used the X2 to compare against, so my experiences might be skewed when it comes to screen brightness

          • @Goldfire: Thanks tried DMing you to set up a meet have you got DM off?

  • +3

Conditions say it wants proof of ownership. I brought my phone from eBay second hand, also my note 10+ 512gb trade is value is only $325. Inflation and interest rates is ruining me, wish I had the changeover value as spare luxury money. I'm running Kogan 500gb Flex which was $150 for the year / $12.50 per month which I split with a member from ozbargain in true ozbargain style.

    • So how does that work? You have 2 phone numbers associated with the same prepaid plan? Curious.

      • It's essentially two vouchers. They are totally independent. You can activate/port new service or renew as you please. It comes up around late mix to late March if my memory serves me correctly. I brought a double pack for my mum, done her 4G modem and her personal mobile. Pretty good for $300. She barely goes over 500gb on wifi for Netflix and grandma Facebook trolling plus her phone is fully done for one year. I could of done it extra Ozbargain and gone the Coles $99 deal but it's 120gb vs 500gb. Optus vs Voda. The vouchers do have a strict expiry date as well, I normally just bum a port out on a $9 boost deal and come back to suit Kogan deal.

      • +1

@rekke Here you go posted this morning. Don't need to share with anyone. It's your destiny
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/783305

  • I put a crappy 10 year old phone in,it still gives me $750 bonus.
So i guess you can put any phone in before they close the loophole??

$650 for a x5 pro is not too bad.

    • +1

not a loophole. any phone is allowed. just as long as it's yours, it works, and it is as described.

      • do we need to include the charger when we send the trade-in phone back to them?

        • It makes no mention of charger, cable, or original packaging so I believe they just want the phone.

          • @Pikaloo: Thanks! Just bought the white one :)

  • Does the x5 pro support esim and and a nano sim?

  • +3

Tried this last week and was waiting for an email with the coupon code that never showed up in an email as stated in their instructions. Didnt realise it auto applies.

Btw in their terms it says if they find your phone to be unsatisfactory once they receive it they will charge the full coupon amount to your payment method.

    • It's applied at checkout

  • Dang I wanted to upgrade to a dual sim. Currently running the X2 Find Pro and it's great. Work have recently given me a phone and I'm sick of carrying two phones around.

    • some people able to use a dual sim tray and flash the rom to dual sim version.

  • +1

When entering trade-in details, on the next page is nothing happening, as well as no email received. There is no trade-in value shown too, but I am able to add a phone at a discounted price. Is it how it supposed to work?

If I just buy it at a discounted price, do I still need to send something back if it is not prompting me to enter any phone details?

    • +2

Even I have a trade in voucher ,they not letting me enter the voucher on top of the bonus trade in code
i.e. only one voucher code can be entered.

      • +1

That's unfortunate, so don't bother trading in anything good then, trade in the lowest value phone you can.

        • +1

Yes,put any crappy phone you have and use the debit card with no overdraft function.
          And see how it goes.
I guess they will soon find a way to stop us by doing this lol

  • Can i trade in a cracked screen feont and back thats functioning ?

    • I was also wondering this. My screen has 2 cracks on front but still functions normally

    • +1

Did you see any clause stating the phone has no crack screen? If not then you know the answer..

    • No
