      • Nah they just worry about shite..

      Great deal

    You had me at

But hey, if you want a quickie

  • +1

sounds like a one way trip

    • +4

Where do you think the Warriors of China come from?

  • +12

good, but you are gonna be pressured to buy random stuff at every stop. Hopefully you have some rich people in the group to take the heat off you.

    • +3

that's how they cover their revenue. Not much different from playing a "Free" game with adverts. lol

    • +7

Not in my recent experience with the tours, especially in a "foreigner" tour. It's illegal now for the tours to force you to buy anyways. But you'll definitely be taken to affiliated shops, but no minimum spend, so no pressure. If you really feel bad, give a tip to the tour guides.

      • +1

But the problem is those side trips are a big time waster. Instead of spending 5 hours on the tourist attraction, you'd get only 2 hours because you need to stop at 3 different stores and an affiliated "restaurant" which are attended only by tourists.

Wuhan, Xian! Weather is extremely hot travel around there.

    • +4

The package is available for travel from Nov 2023 to Nov 2024, so unless you you picked the Northern summer months (AKA our winter), it won't be that hot. Best time to travel Beijing and Xian is probably their autumn months from Sept to Nov. BTW this package don't go to Wuhan.

      • +5

If you do go, please don't bring back any souvenirs like last time.

      • +2

Damn, I wanted me some bat soup.

    • nope, its mega cold in winter. blame the seasons

    Another war?

  • +7

Just back from CN. Local travel/tours operators are also running 50% off so majority of senior/retirees in CN are signing up. I overheard them saying most attractions are packed with people so while the price is great, you'll struggle to breath/move.

    • To avoid the peak, we went in winter, freezing cold!
Stats for Forbidden City was showing "only" 3,000 people that day, compare to 20,000 other days….

BTW, what is the process with CN Tourist Visa now?
      Oz Tourist Visa is shocking!

      • +2

The Visa entry application is a pain. I waited 2 hours in the queue to submit my visa application, and 1.45 hours to collect my passport at the Visa office.

Best not to travel to Beijing (Forbidden City) during Winter. The place is covered in snow and it's simply too cold!.

        • +1

Beijing is not much better in summer. Hot, humid, and unbearable smog. You will get some nice days though.

    • +1

How was your experience? Are credit cards widely accepted and how's the air quality?

    • Seems like we have to prove we're covid negative 48hr before boarding…what was the process for you?

      • +2

Self declaration upon arrival on an online form. It's a tick box exercise now, airlines no longer check for negative tests on check in.

        • Oh OK. I thought Chinese customs might be demanding proof of a negative test.

          • +1

@woozie3: I think it's prudent to bring copies of your Vax Cert, both electronic and paper copy.

    • Lol that is always the case…everything you said.

    • Tourist attractions are packed every where in the world, no difference here. If you go to the great wall go towards the end of the day, and make your own way there. When i was there it was me my wife and another couple in the distance. Best experience.

Not a deal. It was $999 per person including flights 2 months ago. Prob similar deal will come up every now and then.

    • +2

Nope. That deal is still available for $999, it does not include the Terracotta Warriors in its itinerary, this one does.

      • My bad. You are correct. However we can upgrade that tour though to include the terracotta warriors but not sure how much extra.

        • +1

I personally recommend choosing a packaged tour, as you can benefit from the reassurance of official guidance. There used to be a notorious scam that even fooled many locals in China. In Xi'an, there was a completely fabricated Terracotta Warriors site. The bus for this scam is located right next to the authentic Terracotta Warriors site, so unfamiliar tourists could easily board the wrong bus and be taken to the counterfeit site. This scam was still active at least until COVID lockdown, with the local government turning a blind eye to it.

          • +1

            @anjel:

with the local government turning a blind eye to it.

So long as they are paid their cut. They will continue to turn a blind eye.

  • Please don't bring back any cute spider from the tomb.

  • +6

As someone who has said anti-CCP things on social media, should I just avoid going there for my own safety?

    • +3

There's a small chance you've been flagged. These days you can gather most info from a person on social media. I wouldn't risk it :)

    • +2

You wouldn't want to be accused of spying. That 10 nights trip might end up being 2 years.

    • +7

No one really cares about what you said (In the nicest possible tone.), :) you'll be fine is my guess.

    • You should pay after you say so

    • +4

Unless you speak Chinese, and have a million followers on Weibo or Tiktok, they couldn't care less what you say.

    • :)

  • Anyone here seen the terracotta warriors in person? Would love to go just for the experience

    • +6

Highly recommended!. Definitely worth seeing in your lifetime.

    • +1

Many years ago. Certainly worth it. The scale and detail is amazing.

    • I went in winter. it was amazing. the warriors are all indoors but the gardens are magnificent too,

  • The OP made a mistake.

There is also a visa centre in Canberra as well.

  • +1

You can pay with Qantas frequent flyer points.
At a pretty decent redemption rate.
Not as good as upgrades, but comparable to selling (which isn't allowed anyway).

  • I gave up on seeing the Warriors or any other part of China a few years ago. I simply do not want to travel to China. I will miss Hong Kong but it is no longer what it was.

    • +3

I am sure you will be missed

    • +1

Lmao, better go US and experience the deadly gun violence, casual opioid addicts :)

  • -1

Disappointed a Wuhan wet market isn't on the itinerary.

  • Still can't find those WMDs but hey, found those missing dissidents from HK!
