Thanks i was able to order from there because Amazon didn't have any remaining at the deal price.

  • +1

    Great printer.
Picked up one for free with brand new toner from marketplace just a week ago

Only complaint is super slow network printing btw, hence why the good fellow gave it away

  • Is there any suggestion for a Brother Mon MFC? I do occasional printing and probably more scans than prints. Looking to replace my Canon ink jet MFC as I lose more ink in drying than printing.

    • +1

2750 probably.. been running 2740 for ages without issues
      3rd party toner is great

      • Thank you. Will look out for a deal on that.

    • +1

I have the 2730 - Brilliant - and the 3rd party toner from Inkstation works just fine. 3000 pages for 1/6 the cost of geniune.

  • Has anyone else had problems getting third party toners/drum to work in these? I recall seeing somewhere about saving the chip from a real toner/drum but couldn't get it working.

    • +2

I've had no problems. If your new knock off toner doesn't have a chip, just fit the chip from an original toner and you're away.

    • +1

We use L2370DW's in my office and have had no issues with generics.

    • +2

No issues here with this model and toner from InkStation

    • Never update the firmware. All it does is block 3rd party toners and their chips

    • +1

When you first turn on the printer, immediately enter the admin webpage (accessed using the login details on the rear sticker) and disable automatic fw updates. Their only purpose is to update the blocking of 3rd party toners.

      • I didn't find an option when I went into the admin webpage, only to update the firmware, do you know if this printer has auto updates, seems like a lower tech model. Cheers

  • +3

I've had this printer for years and it's great. Buy knock off toners on ebay and it's cheap as chips to operate.

    Recommended.

  • I still have the HL-1110 I bought for $10 at marketplace during covid. Is it worth upgrading?

  • -3

Does it scan the documents ?

    • Seems no.

Looking for a new scanner + printer also.

    • no

    • lol i bought hp printer for $38 that copies + scans + print.. wonder why not this one

      • This is a laser printer

        • what's the difference.. i will ask chatgpt

  • +3

I'm still using the Samsung M2020W Mono Laser Printer $38 from 2019 with the og cartridge.

    • Same here older model from 2016

    • ive got that too. Still going but it's weird and had problems.

Usb won't work on usb on top of case. Rear usb works.

Wireless printing needs to be reinstalled every 6 months. Just stops working then once reinstalled it works again.

Can't complain though it's lasted years and toner is $20

    • Same. lol

  • Got one totlay worth it

  • +3

    That's a crazy good deal

Wish could find the version with Flatbed scanner and printer though, The version with ADF can sometimes be too much as only need the scanner and printer part

    • +2

I think flatbed scanners are redundant now if you are just scanning receipts, forms and pages with text. Smart phone cameras are good enough now to easily 'scan' pages at a reasonably high quality and with the right app you can quickly remove any skewness and save to PDF. I thought I was miss my old printer with a scanner when it did but honestly can't say I do. Exception might be if you are looking to scan photos, artwork, etc. at high resolution - a good scanner will still give a better result in these use cases. And if you are scanning long documents, high speed ADF is obviously an advantage.

So you've progressed from providing useless comments to just copy/pasting details of products? lol

      • -5

        details of products

        Important details.

        • +5

Important details that everyone can get from the product listing without you spamming threads.

        • I found the comments regarding weight helpful

  • Do you guys purchase a separate printer for printing colour? I have a printer bought several years ago but the ink is expensive. The advantage is that it has both black/white and colour.

    • +2

Depends on your needs. 99% of what we print at home is black and white, for the occasional colour requirement I just do it in the office. Saves having to fart around with colour printers and cartridges.

      • I see. How many estimated pages can this printer prints? If I don't print that often, will the ink gets dry very quickly? I have never used the laser printer before.

        • +1

You will find that in the product description on the amazon page.

However, some people believe that the printer will only come with a small cartridge on purchase.

        • +3

Yeah, from memory it's something like 1000 pages with the packaged toner, but it is artificially limited, when you buy the retail toner it's 1500, or the larger one of 2500. mines been great for over 5 years
          EDIT:
          Inbox Toner 700 pages
          Standard Yield Toner 1,200 pages - (TN-2430)
          High Yield Toner 3,000 pages - (TN-2450)

          • @menvert: Thank you. That's very good value. It will be even better if there is a cheap laser printer can printer both black/white and colour.

        • +2

No ink @HappyBargainer it is powder. Nothing to dry out so a big advantage over Ink Jet printers. The cartridges are dirt cheap on Ebay and I get 1,000s of pages with a good warning before the cartridge stops working. These Brothers are kickarse and dirt cheap to run.

    • +3

I have a printer bought several years ago but the ink is expensive.

      Get an ecotank…

      • +2

Epson Ecotank + off brand printing ink bought by the litre = good times :P

        • +2

The genuine inks are cheap enough…

I even used the $40 credit from registering to buy more inks. Probably have 2-3 years supply now and I print a lot…

          • @jv: There's a credit for registeringg?? :O

            • +1

@Bignudge: I got a $40 credit when I registered my last 2 printers with Epson, so I think it is an ongoing thing…

              $40 credit, $50 min purchase…

expires around 4-6 weeks from memory…

first time i stocked up on photo paper, last time i stocked up on ink.

    • I've never needed a colour print in ages, but could do it at work if required. I'm not going to buy a colour printer for that purpose because it's a money pit.

      • +2

        because it's a money pit.

No it's not…. Ecotank inks are about $17 a bottle and do two refills. Easily lasts about 2 years for us and we print a lot.

    • I have this printer and a Brother colour laser printer, which I only use sparingly.

I also have a Brother A3 colour inkjet and scanner as I often have to print A3 and the scanner is very useful to have.

Fortunately, I have the space for three printers which others may not have.

    • +1

Nope. I've owned both an EcoTank and a Brother laser though. The Brother had the advantages of way faster B+W printing, auto duplex, and the prints would not smudge if they got damp.

But the EcoTank was 'fast enough' and manual duplex wasn't a big deal, and I ended up using it way more and gave the laser printer away.

As others have said, running costs on an EcoTank are trivial.

Oh, and with an EcoTank- you have to print occasionally otherwise the ink dries in the head.

      • ink dries in the head.

All you have to do is turn printer on once every fortnight, it will wet(waste) all the print heads for you.

    • +1

I have a laser printer identical to this and a freebie brother 3075cw i picked up off marketplace for colour. I just bought generic inks and drum unit thing off ebay and its as good as new.

We hardly use the colour one but its there if we need it

    • How often do you print colour?
I bought my mono laser printer for $3x a few years ago and go to Officeworks for colour printing.
It's 49c/A4 now. Maybe do your maths.

  • If these had Ethernet I'd be all over them and grab 5 or 6 for the office.

    • +1

      Why?

I've had a HL-1210W for over 5 years and wifi connection has been rock solid.

      • +2

We have two factories next door to each other with multiple offices and we print to each others offices daily. Both factories are wired together through multiple switches and Wifi is unrealiable.

Our printers are on the way out so its almost time for a full upgrade for everyone.

        • get cups (on raspberrypi or a server pc)

  • I recommend getting separate scanner and printer for the same reason I recommend getting separate washer and dryer. That way if either one fails you have the other.
I’ve gone through a few printers but kept the same scanner.

    • +3

This is not why people should buy separate washers and driers.

You buy separates because the drying capacity of a two-in-one is usually half the wash capacity, so you can't dry a full load.

You also buy separates because you can wash one load as the previous load is drying, which is important for families with kids.

That way if either one fails you have the other.

If the washer fails and you still have a working drier, what possible good does that do you? Unless you are prepared to hand wash your entire loads and can't hang them up to dry.

    • The MFC has two other advantages:

      • Photocopy feature (it's just easier than scan and then print)
      • Document feeder (with some MFC supporting duplex scanning)

Fax used to be another advantage, but hardly anyone uses it. Duplex scanners do exist but one such scanner tends to cost more than an MFC.

  • +2

I have HL2130 and it's the longest lasting printer I ever had. Generic toners work. Cant go wrong with printing with this one.

    • I have HL2130 as well. It have saved me good for the last 12 years.

  • Has anyone had any luck using these with a macbook air? I'm planning on using a USB-A female to USC-C male adaptor to connect it to my macbook for printing (no wireless available). Thank you :)

    • Why not print wirelessly? I have a brother mono laser and printing wirelessly from my old Macbook Pro is no issue.

      • Im was planning on using it in a work van with no internet

  • These printers are bloody great. Bought one for my old man who is interstate and still prints out once or twice a week. He was constantly having problems with the old ink jets. These are dirt cheap to run and the cartridges last for ages.

  • Oh no, it's out of stock already.

  • finally used my NSW back to school vouchers (at HN) :)

  • +2

Obviously no longer available, but I've had this for almost 5 years and would recommend it, the only new printer I'd get is the colour and give this to a family member.

The toner cartridges are so cheap and last unbelievably long, the original partial cartridge lasted me 4 years, the Amazon rando brand has 3x as much in it.

Even the colour version (more expensive) is only A$50 for all colours.

    • +2

      back in stock

      • bought one, thanks

  • +1

Bought one @Harvey Norman, replacing my cheap Epson printer. Should last forever with my printing frequency :D

  • Bought a Brother HL-1110 8 years ago for $40, still going strong. I print less than 10 pages per year.

  • Its in stock again

    • and it's gone.. price updated

      • Back in stock @ $99

  • back in stock

  • Just got one, thanks!

Fairly certain I owned this model or very similar that I bought 10 or so years ago and used it a lot overseas, couldn't bring it back here though. It's a beast!

  • In stock now…
