Not ideal if you're price conscious. You'll be stuck to the PS store's significantly higher prices for games with no flexibility to buy/sell/borrow cheaper PS4/PS5 discs.

I heard the same story. You are basically pay the premium price every time and all the time, until the Sony Playstation Store offers discounts.

    • +5

This was worse before the new PS+.
Now, it doesn't make it too bad if you're patient for games to go on sale. I would rather avoid using the disc drive to be honest.

It just means never purchasing new releases then, as there always $20-$35 more than physical and you can't resell them.

I agree, would much rather just go digital but when they are trying to flog new AAA games for $99-$124.95 on the storefront and you can pick up a disc for $79-$89 at Amazon, I know which way I will always go.

        • Just buy used for like $50 a week after release…. Most brand new AAA games don't come to PS+ anyway. So it works if you don't want to play the latest games.

    • Counterpoint: Digital edition pairs well with just playing PS+ games. For anyone buying now, there’s heaps of great games there to keep you entertained.

There's no need to restrict yourself to one avenue though, with no flexibility over the coming years. Makes no sense.

  • +5

Cannot believe I bought it at the same price in 2020…

    • +6

You think that's bad? The PS4 has not had a good deal on OZB since 2020.

  • +1

Not worth it unless you're into jailbreaking the console (which I'm not sure is even possible at this stage).

    • already possible

I have the digital version, and when games are on discount they could be even cheaper than any amazon sale. I set alarms on "deku Deals dot com" and wait for my game to be on discount, then I buy, this also gives me time so that I dont impulse buy. Also, if you have the online subscription then you'll get games added to the library every single month.
I'm not sure why so much hate on the digital version. If you are thinking on selling the games after you beat it, then the digital version is NOT for you.

    • +1

I don't think people want to sit around for months waiting for games to come down to a reasonable price.

      • +3

Good point. But Not an issue for me.

    • You know you can download digital games from the disc version too, right? It's not exclusive to the digital console.

  • +6

Bad value if you want to buy games on launch day. Probably good value if you're patient and happy to wait for PSN sales or for games to hit the PS Plus subscription service.

    • +4

Absolutely - all well and good to say “wait for discount” but there will always be one or two games a year that you want to play on or close to release and having to pay $124.99 on the PSN vs walking into JB for $89 copy on release day adds up very quickly over time.

don't waste you money on this. If you get the digital only verison you will be locked into the ps store only. meaning you will miss out of cheaper prices on physical discs. Never buy the digital version it will end up costing you more in PS store game prices.

  • +3

Rip off of a product. If you want the best first party games you'd have to put up with terrible prices on the playstation store sometimes up to $125AUD each. And you over pay each time you do that because the physical copies at retailers and amazon are way cheaper and often on sale.

  • I think if Sony wanted this console to do well, they would have sold their digital games at a reasonable price (less than disc).
I honestly don't know what they're smoking but it must be bad for business.

  • +1

Please don't buy this for the sake of everyone. Pay the extra $38 for the disc edition: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/782673

  • It's saying that the code doesnt work? I can only see it for $650
