I bought one a few days ago for a slightly higher price, and waiting for it to arrive.

Configuring with Ubiquiti Dream Machine Special Edition (UDM-SE). Should arrive this week, will update how it goes!

    • +3

I have the reolink and UDM SE, they work just fine together 👍

      • What type of configuration did you need to do, doesn't the SE auto detect POE and shoot power down the lines, or you using UDM to actually manage the doorbell?

        • +4

You are correct, just plug the ethernet cable from one to the other and that will power it up. Then use the reolink app or NVR of choice and you're up and running.

I have the doorbell, 2 x 4K cameras and the duo 2 spotlight all powered via my UDM SE.

      • Does this with Alexa Echo show for instant video previous when triggered doorbell ?

        • Sorry, I have no idea on that, I don't have anything Alexa in my house

      • Hi Eatoff,

Is there any guides on how to set it up?

I've got the SE too, but thought it only worked with unifi cameras. If i can use this with it, thats awsome. I've also got a tplink camera, do you know if that can record to the SE as well?

        • +3

The SE will not record the reolink camera, but it will happily power them up. I have mine recording to my own NVR (Frigate), which is integrated with home assistant.

          • @Eatoff: Ahh, cheers

          • +1

@Eatoff: Thanks - great info; and good to know. My Reolink is coming today; and over the weekend terminated the connections at the UDM-SE, and front door - will be hoping for an easy plug and play.
I knew without Reolink NVR I likely won't get storage on the UDM-SE; but I have a camera overhead to the entry on constantly recording; so don't particularly require saved footage; small SD-Card in the Reolink would be more than sufficient.
Real shame the G4 Doorbell Pro is missing several EA features; no native PoE (requires RJ45>USBC adapter; extra cost), a digital chime is extra (if you can get one out of early access), and in the end almost 8 times the price, plus requiring half a brick to be removed for the USBC adapter. I do love Ubiquiti Protect though; may give Frigate a try to get Reolink storage working; just for nerd-sake.
I will be integrating with Google Home as well.

          • @Eatoff: Update: All set up!

Took all up; about 60 seconds from plugging in the chime to a power point, connecting ethernet between Reolink DoorBell; and UDM-SE; and downloading the Reolink app from Google Store - tested the button, and all working perfectly right away!
I did take a bit longer to drill the bracket in; play with all the settings; and configure Google Home; though that is all working.

Only limitation I can see in my use case; is the Google Home only displays when asked ("Hey google, show doorbell" which takes ~5 seconds); and doesn't automatically pop up when doorbell button is pressed; may look into if it can be done later via Home Assistant. I haven't played around with loading an SD card, and on UDM-SE side; was having some issues locking the port to the doorbell particular MAC address; but will try again later - in the extremely off chance someone tries connect a laptop to the front door - I know it is definitely an option. But everything works well. Can set automatic messages, change the chime tones, access via cellular, do motion detection alerts; etc.

Great little doorbell, clear picture quality, decent sound, very clean and easy install - we haven't had one up for over a year, so my wife thinks its a great addition; and that chime is pretty loud too!

  • +1

I have one and for some reason when configured with ONVIF (I am integrating it with HomeKit using Scrypted) the two-way audio channel is delayed by 2-3 seconds :(

    • I find the audio is delayed by about that much when using the Reolink app too

      • Oh wow, that's not great at all. Especially when you consider that everything is wired and there should be pretty much no delay at all.

  • RLN8-410-E NVR with H3MB16 - damnit!

    • Same :(

    • +2

I wrote the product description in the previous post but you can still get the doorbell to work with the old 410-E NVR if you get a PoE Switch (I have the old 410-E NVR). It uses the NVR basically for storage and the switch as the central hub instead. See below on how:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/yvgwoz/reolink_…

      https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/uvgw9l/reasons_…

You should be running your cameras through a PoE switch regardless of having a doorbell or not anyway (benefits listed in the link above).

      I bought this switch: https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/tp-link-tl-sg1210mp-10-port-giga…

      • Just to dumb it right down for me - are you saying the human detection will work if using a poe switch?

        • +1

Yes it will work. The doorbell or any of the other cameras connected to the PoE switch will function as though it's a standalone camera and not be run through the old NVR so the cameras will retain the smart AI functions. The NVR will just be used for recording/storage. The second Reddit link above explains it in detail.

          • @kin07: Appreciate the response, cheers! Looks like I might have to set something like this up

  • +2

Be aware that this doorbell doesnt have an answer function like the Ring or eufey doorbell. Push notifications are pretty poor on samsung phones (not sure about apple), they dont wake the phone or vibrate. It was also a huge pain in the ass getting it to work with my NVR, spent 1-2 weeks back and forth with their support working on getting it working and trying to improve notfications
These were the main reasons i returned mine, a real shame because being POE, this was so close to being the perfect doorbell. It just needs the functionality that matches ring or eufy

    • What do you mean with the answer function?

      • As in your phone won't ring as if someone is calling.

    • Damn, was looking to replace my Eufy with this, both due to their shitty privacy record of late and also to record locally to my blue iris NVR but doesn't sound ideal at all

    • +3

      Home assistant would solve

      • +2

I’ve got the video recorded to frigate and the push and notify functions wired to home kit via home assistant.
        👌

        • I got it working with the nvr eventually, but what let it down is it works more like an intercom, the person ringing the bell needs to hold down the bell to talk and again notifications and it not ringing your phone when someone pushes the doorbell for me just let it down.
I would have used home assistant but others in my house seriously struggle with smart devices so it needs to have it all native in the app at least for me.
Honestly if it had all the functionality of say a ring device, this would be the perfect doorbell and I would buy it in a heartbeat but right now it's like its only 95% of the way there.

          • @Mr Smee: HomeKit allows intercoms

            • +2

@Commodore64: Totally get it and I am certainly not discouraging anyone from buying one and going down this route, but if your expecting that kind of functionality out of the box then maybe this isn't the one to go for just yet.
My personal opinion is a product that is meant to be used in its own ecosystem shouldn't need things like Homekit to make it work as other devices on the market.
Again not saying not to buy one, they are well made and their support team is quite responsive but to me it's not quite there yet.

          • @Mr Smee: I'm not sure what you mean. I have this doorbell (poe) and I don't have any of these issues. You can change the notification sounds on your phone, and visitors don't need to hold the button to speak.

With reolink devices the best way to set up is using a POE switch. Then put your NVR on the network. This allows you to connect directly to the device for full functionality.

Mine was plug and play, I really can't fault it.

      • Even Tasker would solve this issue on an Android with AutoNotification

    • +2

What NVR are you having issue with? Mine works with frigate and blue iris, and tinycam.

On first release the rtsp streams were pretty unstable, but there have been updates, and mine is rock solid now, recording to Frigate for me

    • Samsung is the problem for the notifications delay. It's a power saving feature on Samsung. After 2 Samsung's, no better. IPhone/ios works well.

  • +3

I'm an owner of this doorbell and love it. Here if anybody has any questions from user experience.

    • +1

Have you got the same problem with Mr Smee above?

      • +3

I’m not @whitepuma but also own one. So far it’s been great. Auto answers work fine when set up through the reolink app. As does notifications. On iPhone you can have the notifications set as critical so it will interrupt you no matter the mode you have it set to.

I’ve also got it set up on my Synology as my NVR and it was no harder than any other camera. Took 2 minutes. Would only be better if Synology had a profile for the camera, which will probably come soon, but even so it was really easy to do.

        Would buy again

      • +3

        Regarding Answer function:
Not exactly sure what Mr Smee means by answer function. If he means answering when someone rings the doorbell, it has this and it works perfectly fine. Best part of it (compared to the Eufy and generic doorbells i have used in the past) is the speed to load up the camera feed.

regarding push notifications on samsung phones:
        - i'm running an s21 ultra, and my partner is running a s21 FE, both have good push notifications. They do wake up the phone or vibrate (depending on how you set it). You can get granular with the notifications so that even notifies you when it detects a person or movement.

        Regarding setting up with NVR
Can't comment on that, i didn't set mine up with NVR as i don't currently own one, mine records directly to the microSD on the doorbell and that works great.
Maybe the fact that mine isn't setup with NVR gives me a different notifications result to Mr Smee? i'm not sure.

        Note:
I have updated my firmware(needs to be down manually by downloading a file from reolink website then uploading to camera via web browser, i think the latest update was just a month ago, not sure if that's also part of the reason for different experience to Mr Smee.

        • +2

i should also add that it integrates pretty decently with home assistant if you use that.

        • +1

The video is a standard RTSP stream; make sure you’ve setup the user and password if needs be.
You might just be missing a URL, frigate and home assistant can both stream from it

        • Could have very possibly been an update, I had mine roughly a couple months ago.
Does it have the functionality built into the app like a ring device?

          • @Mr Smee: The notifications are reliable however if you have a visitor press the button it won't keep making noise until you answer it like others do.

So if you don't have your phone nearby or are in a noisy location you will likely miss the single "ding" sound.

      • +1

A lot of the issues highlighted above can be resolved by getting a PoE switch and using the switch as a central hub instead of NVR or as whitepuma's setup to record to microSD card. Guide on PoE switch below:

        https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/uvgw9l/reasons_…

You should be running your cameras through a PoE switch regardless of having a doorbell or not anyway (benefits listed in the link above).

Does it come with a wedge in the box to adjust the angle?

      • +2

Yes it does, attaches to the mounting plate.

  • +5

Keep in mind that the PoE version doesn't support rich notifications. I've heard you can do a hack using third party software (home assistant) to get them though.

    • What are rich notifications.

      • +3

I believe they are notifications that include media (like an image from the camera).

Note that the other version is the WiFi version and not PoE.

          • @NoBalls: Whats the difference?

            • @U30004: PoE is hard wired via cable. WiFi does not require hard wiring. The original deal post is for PoE version.

              • @NoBalls: Aah right. Hows it powered?

                • +2

@U30004: From the network cable. Hence POE (Power over Ethernet).

                  • @DeeTrance: Keep in mind that router/switch needs to specifically provide PoE capability to provide power. A standard LAN port will not power this device; but a POE enabled port will! Perfect for those who don't have an existing hardwired mechanical doorbell.
When we built recently, builder was asking $2k for a doorbell provision, so I ran an ethernet cable only; hoping this would be future proofing; which goes back to my PoE Network Device (UDM-SE). The market for PoE doorbells is still not huge; but this Reolink one is rated pretty well as per reviews/comments. I was going to try the Ubiquiti G4 Doorbell Pro (which pairs nicely with my UDM-SE as they're the same line) but can't justify the $639 doorbell, which doesn't provide native PoE; and still requires a $120 RJ45>USBC adapter (meaning I also have to push more cables behind the wall); and no digital chime (extra $120, but only on pre-order as it is an Early Access Device).
At Reolinks pricing; will do me for possibly many years while market hopefully expands into the PoE space more - given the positive ratings, may continue to stick with it too :)

              • @NoBalls: I saw a review of Wifi version and apparently it has Ethernet also hence its a bit more expensive. Not sure if its PoE but dont see why not as its more expensive one would thing they just added a wifi card to the PoE model. It would be nice if someone could confirm if the Wifi version ethernet port is PoE.
                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnm6werojMo&t=907s

is there a battery option for these?

              • +1

@NoBalls: All the Reolink doorbells are hardwired. You either need pre-existing doorbell wiring or a power adapter to power the WiFi version.

  • +2

One downside is there is no remote release (e.g. opening the front gate for a delivery) natively setup on this.
I've got to run a separate control to the electronic strike to release that.

Other than that, I've been pretty impressed with mine too.

    • +2

Beat doorbell I’ve used so far, and no cloud account bullshit or monthly payments.

  • How the heck did you know I had a RLN8-410-E NVR with H3MB16? But thanks for the heads up! I might just stick with the current camera and separate doorbell, maybe eventually pay the premium and go with the Unifi instead.

  • I'm interested in buying one of these one day. I want PoE but the space I have at the front may not be suited so I may need to go for the WiFi option. Anyone know the downsides if I go the WiFi option? Cheers for any advice :)

    • +1

You still need to run a power cable to wifi model

      • Thanks for the reply. I thought that could be the case. Food for thought.

        • +1

If you already have a traditional wired "ding dong" style doorbell you can probably use the wiring for that to power the wi-fi model

          • @fullspend: I have an El Cheapo one that is powered with batteries and stuck on with 3M tape :D. The door has Windows on either side so there isn't really a good option to put in any wires. Back to the drawing board :)

    • Am in the same boat and likely going for the wifi. I have power as do most of us, but the plain hassle to lay a LAN cable means I'll likely go the Wifi. Seems a good product and a natural fit if you have the reolink setup elsewhere.

      • I was thinking it was worth the hassle since I was going to also get their camera solution and connect the doorbell to the NVR. Might be something to think about :) also since POE it doesn't need a sparkly to install. I don't have power at the front door so would need to do that.

  • Reolink NVRs that have the following hardware:

How do you know which hardware version you get?

I want to get an NVR with couple of cameras and plan to hook up the doorbell with the NVR.

  • FYI, AFAIK, there's an issue with HA reolink integration that if your ha instance is using https on LAN, the doorbell sensor (aka visitor) will not work properly. I don't think reolink would care to fix this on their firmware.

  • Guide to install: Get a POE switch to connect camera poe cable to existing Ethernet cable in roof.

If anyone else has a better way let us know

    • You can also use a 48v power injector instead of a switch

    • It's best to be running your cameras through a PoE switch regardless of having a doorbell or not anyway. Reasons in the guide below:

      https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/uvgw9l/reasons_…

      • A POE switch will require power right so it comes with an AU plug ideally?

        • Yes if you're getting a PoE switch in Australia it will have an AU plug. If you have multiple PoE IP cameras, the switch will power all the cameras.

          I have this switch:
          https://www.pcbyte.com.au/p/tp-link-tl-sg1210mp-10-port-giga…

          • @kin07: Thanks for your switch recommendation. Does yours just sit in the roof space?

            • @MuddyClear: No problem.

No I have my switch and NVR upstairs in a closet shelf with them connected to the mesh wifi unit downstairs via ethernet cabling running through the roof space.

What is your existing ethernet cabling in the roof space connecting to? I presume one end is to a router in the house. Ideally you'd want your switch (and NVR if you have one) somewhere you can access but not easily accessible to an intruder.

  • From my experience in dealing with tech support, they have always been responsive and helped trouble shoot.

I bought the PoE ($150 ish from memory) and Wifi version from Reolink eBay, the electrician decided to use WiFi version. I'm going to return (or sell) the PoE version. Such a hassle but they also let me do this as I specifically wrote in my order, I'll buy 2, use 1 and return one.

Pretty easy to configure, and goes nicely with the other camera I have around, a few 833A and E1 Zooms.

    • I'm still quite new to this. Your setup is what I want for my new house. I want reolink for doorbell, internal and external cameras.

May I know what else I need before I get someone to come and install everything? Poe switch and NVR only? Using android if that helps.

And may I know why the electrician decided to use the WiFi version instead?

      Thanks!

      • +1

You will need the NVR only no need for a switch. Your POE cameras and POE doorbell connects to the NVR using ethernet cables and one ethernet cable goes from NVR to your router for internet access so that you can be notified on the Reolink App.

  • PoE for cameras as my house already had cabling. Front door wifi as he didn't want to drill any more holes for cabling. PoE would have been fine. I don't have a PVR as I use my android phone and bought 256GB SD cards from the other thread. I also need a transformer 12-24VAC with similar amps as the doorbell, as my doorbell isn't PoE.

  • +2

Not sure why it is marked as expired but bought just now, thanks OP.

    • +1

Updated; thank you - timer was ~5 hrs to expiry yesterday; seems it is back to midnight tonight; and still in stock!

  • Coupon code is still valid for the extra $5 off.

  • Has anyone connected this up with Blue Iris?
If so, is it possible to get push alerts to your phone from the Blue Iris app?

  • Sadly these weren't in stock when I had to get a doorbell installed and I splurged for the Ring Video Elite. Sucks not to have it all in the same ecosystem. And now there's a big hole in the wall so it'll be hard to cover/replace.

  • I installed one of these recently. Good little doorbell, and would recommend it if you have the Reolink cameras and are already in that system or you want a PoE doorbell that supports ONVIF.

Just note, the instructions say to install this at 1.2m, which felt a little low and would require a new hole so I just installed it where my current doorbell was at 1.5m. The FOV I got is indeed a bit high, I see a lot of the eaves on my front porch so make sure to check the FOV yourself.

    • Can this doorbell be powered with Reolink NVR? I have some Reolink cameras and NVR. There are 2 free ports on the NVR… Wonder if this works the same as cameras, taking POE power off NVR

      • Yep, it can. Though I can't comment on how it works since don't run it through the Reolink NVR because I'm using it with Scrypted for Homekit integration.

  • Can this doorbell be powered by Reolink NVR? Instead of POE switch?

    • I'm not a rep; just a consumer; so do your own research/check with Reolink directly to confirm; etc. but I would suggest it depends on the NVR as not all would have PoE.

Checking specs; and the fact it has PoE capability; I believe this would work (check hardware version against the one provided by doorbell; this one being N7MB01, should work with all capabilities).

      https://reolink.com/au/product/rln8-410/#specifications

You'd then just require an ethernet cable direct from the doorbell, to the NVR, and good to go.

      • Thanks. Mine is N2MB02, 8 ports with PoE. Used 6 for cameras and 2 free ports.
