  • Great deal!

  • any difference between woolworths and aldi mobile?

    • +2

Woolworths has more benefits, especially re: 10% off your shop once a month. The mobile service itself is much the same.

      • +14

10% off, once a month, in a shop that’s more expensive than Aldi. Not worth it. If you want to save, save directly without spending time to navigate through isles full of “everyday specials”.

        • +12

Woolworths specials are almost always significantly cheaper than Aldi prices, and for the most part better quality with longer expiry dates. Woolworths house brand is generally cheaper than Aldi as well.

Most of my regular buys are on sale at Woolies at least once a month. I shop at both, but I generally save more buying sale items in bulk from Woolworths when they are on sale - enough to last a month or so.

In my experience Aldi is only cheaper if you're doing your whole week's shop in one go and have no room to store a few weeks of random staples in the pantry.

          • +1

@AngoraFish: Yes if you have epic discipline but I find when I’m at Woolies, I’m always tempted by the brand names from their shiny marketing labels and nice pics compared to the Woolies products which look ordinary next to them; eat with your eyes first.

Also it’s exhausting to chase Specials.

        • +2

It's pretty easy these days for a family to do one decent $200+ shop per month and it pays for the phone usage.

Aldi is OK but it simply doesn't have all of what you need as a family. The produce is limited, the products are limited. Can't really bring home the cooked roast chooks from there either.

      • +5

Just a shame woolworths killed ordering online for this, instore only. Used to make for the best delivery service vs coles.

Can still buy discount giftcards though, usually 4-5% off. That stacked with the 10% is pretty great.

    • +1

Network-wise, no. Both on Telstra wholesale, which has poorer regional and remote coverage than Telstra retail (Telstra and Boost).

      • Not sure if it's just me, but when I was on Woolies Mobile my 4G internet speed was slow af. Previously was on Telstra (iPhone deal from 2021) and Kogan Mobile, and both of them worked fine. No issues. Then I switched to Woolies Mobile and I was struggling to stream music in my car. Not sure if anyone knows why?

        • +3

It's called shaping. Telstra prioritises traffic per mobile tower based on what service you have. Telstra business plan? High priority. Regular Telstra? Lower priority than business but still important enough. Woollies mobile or Boost? lower priority. You'll only notice this in real life when a mobile tower has reached capacity and low priority data suffers

          • @wots: this is a myth…every provider has different negotiation skills in regards to price but service of telstra wholesale is the same, speaking from someone that works there.

            • +2

@SpeedAU: My point is Telstra's own customers vs wholesale and Boost. @winnytp noticed a decline in service moving from Telstra to Woollies. I noticed the same moving from Telstra to Boost (not wholesale but still shaped differently from regular Telstra).

              • @wots: Shaped differently? How so?

I thought boost was identical to telstra service

              • +1

@wots: I see this claim a lot, but nobody ever seems to be able to substantiate it beyond "I noticed".

              • +2

@wots: Telstra wholesale has Wifi Calling issues not automatically connecting this has been an issue across, Aldi, WW, Mate etc. This is with Telstra wholesale support and they have identified the issues, now it's fixed across all providers. Boost and Telstra are identical, no traffic shaping. Like i said all wholesale is all the same

    • +1

WW has esim; not sure about aldi

      • +1

        Aldi doesn't have eSIM.

  • Can you put thee in one of those mobile wifi routers?

  • I'm already on the $25 plan can I still buy this and cancel my current one?

    • +1

I'm in the same position, went up to the confirmation screen, but backed out.

Sounds like we'll forfeit any remaining days and rollover data on the original plan, and immediately start this 365 day one.

      • +1

Thanks for sharing, not worth it. I've accumulated too much data already don't want to waste it

    • +1

You don't have to cancel your current plan. On the day your plan expires (or on 27 June which is end of offer date), you can recharge to one of the super packs from your ALDImobile account.

If you want to confirm this, logon to your account, click on Manage Account > Recharge > Mobile Plans, and you should see the $159 and $189 super packs as recharge options.

      • +1

You would lose all the data you banked up right?

        • You lose data only when recharging with a lower value. I believe you'll be fine, but can never return to the $25 recharge without sacrificing your data

          • +1

@scottySK: There might be some other small print there. I lost my banked data going from the $25 deal to the $45 family deal, I knew this would happen as I contacted support prior. Contact support, they were helpful.

        • Yes, you will lose your rollover data if you move to a different type of plan.

You data will not rollover when the following occurs:
          - Your recharge occurs 24 hours or more after your current plans expiry;
          - If you move to a different type of plan (e.g. a Mobile Plan to a Super Pack), your data will not rollover, even if the new plan value is higher.
          - If you move to a lower value plan (e.g. $35 Mobile Plan to $25 Mobile Plan), you data will not rollover, even though you are changing plans within the same plan group.

  • Even cheaper than boost?

  • 5G?
    Only wholesale?

  • +1

Been on their family plan for ages, very happy with it. $80 per month covers 4 of us and we have a ton of rollover data (over 1 TB).

    Coverage miles better than Optus.

  • Is it 4G or 5G ?

    • 5G= maybe in 2 years time…

  • +7

Good deal, but I wish they still had the $99 pack with only 12GB of data. That was more than enough when you're mostly on wifi.

    • +1

It should still be possible to get on one of these super packs and change to the $99 for your second year. But I agree, Aldi had it as a recurring special buy then dropped it a couple years ago.

    • $99 now gives you 25GB

  • +5

Misleading to say "Telstra network". It's a subset of Telstra network. Telstra and Boost are full (retail) Telstra network. Aldi and other resellers are subset of Telstra network (wholesale).

    • What's better? Optus or Telstra wholesale. I'm comparing this and amaysim. They are giving 200 GB for 179. Though amaysim is also probably Optus wholesale.

      • About the same overall, the best way to tell for your needs is to try a month with a cheap SIM. Optus doesn't reduce coverage for MVNOs.

      • +1

In my experience in moving from Optus to Aldi, Aldi is miles, miles better.

      • Which is better is very location and even time dependent. Where I am (regional small town), most of the time there is little difference between Optus and Telstra. But its a tourist town and as soon as its a long weekend (let along Easter or summer holidays), Optus just falls over to be more or less useless, whereas Telstra slows only very marginally (I'm talking Aldi Telstra).

However if you are 99% in a large city then the difference will be nothing

    • +1

I guess technically it is the "Telstra network" just not all of it haha

  • Does not have 5g on this plan

  • Not include international call. :(

  • couldnt find it but anyone know when you need to activate by , My current 1 year plan expires in August

    • +1

in the same boat here, my current optus prepaid expires on 26 of August - do I buy a sim during EOFY discounts or activation must happen before July or something ?

  • I read on another forum (I'm sorry I can't remeber which) that Aldi may soon be switching from Telstra to another wholesaler.

Does anyone know if this is correct, or if it is complete baloney?

  • -5

    Not a deal.
It's a standard price available for at least 2 years. I know because I'm using it for 2 years.

    • +3

It is a deal because it's the only way new users can join Aldimobile on a super pack. Check the deal history for Aldimobile, many super pack special buys have been popular deals for years and this is no different. Did you neg the deal post that got you to sign up 2 years ago? If not, I'd suggest revoking your silly neg. I certainly didn't neg a deal when I signed up in 2018 to a $99 super pack that already existed.

    • Availability

      Online: 14 - 27 June 2023

In store: 21 June 2023, while stocks last

I'm curious, what is a lower price item, available for a limited time, if not a deal?

  • If your after 5g go with Boost mobile, its worth the extra IMO

  • +2

You can get a 140gb boost sim for around $150 (170 -20 cashback) or pricematching at OW for around 160. I price beat using lucky mobile offer 168 to bring the boost sim to 159.60.

    • Any disadvantages of Boost offer vs this Aldi's offer? Seems both are on Telstra network, but Boost have 5G and international calls.

For $250 (and cashback that you mentioned?) you get a $300 Prepaid SIM:

      • 260GB on activation for new customers. 240GB on next recharge. Activate and first recharge by 3 July.
      • 150Mbps download speed cap will apply on 4G and 5G network
      • Unlimited Calls & Text to standard national numbers
      • International Calls & Text Unlimited standard calls to 20 selected destinations (Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, USA, Vietnam)
      • plus 3600 mins standard calls to 30 selected destinations (Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Mexico, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, UAE)
      • plus 3600 standard text to any country (there's still a list provided there)
      • Aldi uses telstra wholesale network and boost uses the full telstra network, so better coverage in remote areas.

No I meant their 200 sim (140gb) discounted by pricematching OW to 159.60

  • is Aldi coverage equal to Boost?

    • No

  • anyone bought a kit at the store?
    whats the expiry?

    • ALDImobile 365 Days Prepaid Starter Pack

      My bet is 365 Days.

      • +1

I think stalker878 means when do you have to activate it by? Just a wild guess!
