Can add to mobile wallet? I assume yes based off of last month's promo

    • NFC payments not supported. It like the Coles Digital Mastercard i.e you need to enter card details at checkout to process. Description needs to explicitly state "Compatible with Apple Pay, Google Pay and Android Pay."

      • +5

@Sheng - took the plunge and bought one. Works on mobile wallet!

        • Added to Apple Pay/Samsung Pay or Gpay?

          • @Sheng: Yes, I managed to add it. Same steps as last month. Essentially converted my Digital only GC from last month into one that works with mobile wallet. Now this is a more efficient way of using it.

            • +2

@nsingh21: Interesting that would neglect to add this to drive more sales. Thanks for proving me wrong. I'll test myself with inception with BWS that exist this month.

              • +1

@Sheng: I agree, although the website doesn't show the mobile wallet logos which got me thinking, the fine print says use instore and the only other way to use instore is if mobile wallet was supported.

        • Thank you! I have some coles mastercard to convert. Hopefyully it works :)

        • +1

Does it work in Coles in store? :D

        • +1

FYI, this prepaid gift card actually only supports Apple Pay and Google Pay. It does not work on Samsung Pay.

          • @WookieMonster: TBH, I'm not sure why someone would be desperate to have Samsung Pay. GPAY should work like a charm in all those devices.

            • +1

@nsingh21: It could be because you are like me and cannot get Google Pay to work…

I don’t have any issues adding cards to Google Pay on my Samsung phone, but every single time I have tried to use a card at an EFTPOS terminal, I get error messages saying card read failed. Coles, Woolworths, Ampol, Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi, various restaurants, hairdressers… The even stranger thing is that I open up Samsung Pay immediately afterwards and it works fine.

I reached out to Samsung for help a couple of times, and they have told me each time after some troubleshooting to use Samsung Pay! I also reached out to Google for help, but that went nowhere.

I also have an iPhone, so it’s not the end of the world…

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Its funny you mention that. I have never had Card read failure but I did add 5x Ultimate Gift cards on my Apple Wallet. After using all 5 at JB Hifi (yes, I was buying GCs there hence had to conceal in mobile wallet), I removed those 5 to add more…Apple kept refusing/declining them pretending the bank was declining it.

I contacted Apple support, wiped my iPhone clean, setup a brand new AppleID, but still even a fresh card couldn't be added! On the flip side, I added those cards from the failed attempt on iPhone into GPAY and they worked like a charm. Loaded 10, used, deleted, added another 10 and kept going!

                  • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks @WookieMonster - totally aware of this. Its the risk/cost we all face if we buy GCs in bulk during such promotions and try using them. I've had 1 spare google account banned in the past (due to use of a prepaid card), luckily I had it restored. Since then, I use a spare Google account which is exclusive for GC/prepaid cards. It only takes a second to switch accounts/email.

Re Google Pay issue - I did quick research on Samsung forums - could be a Samsung issue than Google. Did you try >> "uninstalling Google Play Services updates (Settings → apps → search → „play” → three dots → uninstall updates) and restarting the device (important!) Google Pay works again."

                    • +1

@nsingh21: As long as you are aware of what can go wrong with Google Pay, all the power to you!

Hmmm yeah that was something Google recommended to me, but it did not help. I’m not overly fussed about getting Google Pay to work on my phone, as I am looking to get a new phone soon and probably will not get a Samsung phone again.

Don’t get me started on the last problem I had with Samsung Pay, where my bank and Samsung were blaming each other for me not being able to add a debit card in order to access eftpos. It dragged on for a month before I told my bank to not worry about it and to tell Samsung that they suck lol

                      • @WookieMonster: @WookieMonster - was thinking to stack 10% cashback on supermarket for the next round of in-store deals at Coles supermarket. Per my understanding too - online purchases should be easy to tell that they are gift card purchases but I wouldn't assume there will be a way to tell for in-store purchases will it?

                        • +1

@nsingh21: Normally I would say your bank would not be able to see what you have purchased at a supermarket, but @Neoika recently pointed out that Slyp exists.

Slyp is a company that enables tax invoices from participating merchants to be sent directly to participating financial institutions, so the relevant financial institution can then present a digital copy of the tax invoice within their online banking platform. Slyp’s website says that a customer needs to opt in before a financial institution can access the tax invoice and share it with the customer through their online banking.

I do not see St George nor Coles being listed as partnering with Slyp, so you should be fine to purchase a gift card through that deal. I think the potential sticking points would be:

                          • St George randomly demanding to see the purchase receipts to verify you purchased eligible items, or

                          • Cashback not automatically being rewarded to you, requiring you to chase it up with St George.

However, keep in mind there may be tools similar to Slyp out there that we do not know about (especially ones that are used without requiring the consent of customers). This would be particularly the case if you go to a retailer using Commonwealth Bank as their payment processor (e.g. ALDI) and you are wanting to use a Commonwealth Bank debit/credit card to trigger a cashback offer on it.

                          • +1

@WookieMonster: haha that and St. George suddenly noticing $4000+ spend at 1 store likely being another red flag! I was asked by Amex (during Vanilla VISA promo back in Mar) on what I was spending on Coles for. I replied furniture (lol) - the rep probably didn't have that advanced knowledge.

Thanks for listing out everything to consider. Worth a gamble!

      • +1

I have purchased $10 gift card to check it and I can add it to google wallet. But use valid mobile no for verification.

    • +1

It says “allowing the recipient to shop online and in-store anywhere VISA is accepted” so probs yes

      • +1

that's what most eftpos and master cards say and then this "some retailers may not accept"

    • +1

Why is this such a thing now?

Why not just use a no fee credit card? No faffing about.

Unless you can’t get a credit card, or want to buy goods and services that you don’t want to appear on your main card. I don’t get it.

      • +3

Can buy them with Coles Prepaid Mastercards. Already been mentioned multiple times in this thread.

        • People are buying them not as gifts, they are buying them for personal use.

Why would that be a thing?

  • Any discount?

  • +3

No activation fee is the discount , which is usually $5.95 for prepaid visa/ Mastercards

    • -1

Wow. Any discount on breaking my $20 note to 2 X $10?

  • +1

would you also be able to get CC points or qualify for X minimum spend to get Y points?

    • Should be, would just be showing as normal purchase.

  • +9

you can convert the digital coles mastercards purchased from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778169 and can be stored on google or apple wallets.

    • Can you use them in the same way? At the same places?? Tbh just wanting to use them at jbhifi

      • +1

you can use anywhere and online as well.

        • Thanks!

      • +1

Yes - works the same way. If you're buying in-store at JB, I'll suggest use buy an Ultimate or TCN GC first then use that for extra discount

        • +1

Do not buy the ultimate via shpback tho. Blackhawk's systems are unusable. Trying to recover $100 gift card as we speak.

    • brilliant idea! it was a hassle not being able to use in store!

Edit: You will be swapping to a 3 year expiry (not that you should be keeping them for that long anyway). I believe the Coles MC ones were for 5 years.

      • Easier refunds as well.

    • I can confirm that I can add to android wallet. I had to install TCN app through.

      • Hey fhqhfhqh
Could you please provide some information how you managed to add the Coles Digital Mastercards?
I have tried few times (to add to Google Wallet) but its failing

I have installed TCN app as well as per your suggestion.
        Thanks

    • Could you please provide some information how you managed to add the Coles Digital Mastercard?

      • +2

I think you have missed the point.

People were using digital Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method to pay for the Go-To Visa gift card in this deal. Once they obtained the Go-To Visa gift card, they have been adding it to Apple Pay and Google Wallet (and this can be done via the TCN app).

You cannot add digital Coles Mastercard gift cards to a mobile wallet, because digital Coles Mastercard gift cards do not support card-present transactions (i.e. transactions that you do in-person where you swipe/insert/tap a card to initiate payment).

        • +1

Ahh that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification WookieMonster

  • +1

Is anyone aware of a digital or physical card that you can pay/transfer directly into? I'm consciois that the Auspost cards that permitted this disappeared, but it is a very useful tool in particular circumstances.

    • +1

Based on what you have written, Qantas Travel Money is an option.

You can top up the prepaid card via bank transfer, BPAY or an Australian-issued Mastercard/Visa debit card.

It also supports 3-D Secure, which is handy when some websites mandate support for it.

      • Can I use Coles prepaid Mastercard to load this Qantas TM card?
If so, it's a good way to bypass Coles instore gift card purchase restrictions + store the money safely as the QTM card can be locked.

      • Just reading through T&C says,

Debit Card Loads can only be made using a Mastercard debit card or Visa debit card held in your name.

I wonder how they check the cardholder name… :S

  • Thanks OP -:)
Bought one and added to Apple wallet

  • +2

Thanks OP. Converted my coles mastercard to this

    • Did you use the card details or did you add to paypal by chance?

      • The card details

  • Are these cards more secure than the ones from coles? or do they get brute forced the same way?

    • Seems that the Digital card needs to be activated first - so I would be inclined to say its more secure

    • Probably similar if you're talking about brute force as it's similar probability. Coles one though have more problem than just brute force

      • Sorry, I'm outdated but what brute force issue for coles mc? Thanks

        • Guessing the combination between the card numbers & expiry date (CVV is not mandatory for some websites)

  • when I pay instore, does it need pin? Can we setup a pin?

  • +1

Anyone with issues adding into apple pay? If so, anyone knows how to bypass it. "Could not add card"

    • not sure about apple pay but sometimes I get that error with google pay and I just add it manually.

      • Yea issue arises on both manual entry and using app's "add to apple wallet" feature. It's been the same issue even with other gift cards.

        • I think I had an issue with the manual entry once and it resolved itself after waiting for a bit.
If not, probably best to raised ith with Customer Support.

  • +2

Are people just buying these to hit minimum spend on CC for bonus points? Im not clear on the benefit for these.

    • +2

Swap all my Coles prepaid to this so now I can use it physically.

      • May I know how many did you do? I tried to do the same, using same details, except card. Currently on my 3rd one, and it's not sending the giftcard anymore (previous 2 were within minutes)

        • +2

You've been flagged for fraudulent activity.

        • This is what happens when card.gift flags you for a "suspicious" transaction. It will take about 12 hours for them to say "no bueno"

          • @cooni: So, will they just refund after 12 hours if that's the case?

            • +3

@hanofee: Correct. Email will read like this:

              Your order has been canceled
Order CGxxxxxx - Thank you for your recent order with card.gift. We’re emailing to inform you that we are unable to fulfill this order, and your credit card has not been charged. We take security very seriously, and a major part of that is ensuring that orders are placed by the legitimate cardholder. This keeps our customers, other credit card holders and card.gift safe. Unfortunately, we were unable to verify this purchase, and it was declined out of caution. This is not a reflection on you as a shopper, and we apologise for the inconvenience. We understand that you have a number of options when making a purchase, and we’re sorry for this frustration. We invite you to revisit card.gift and place your order again using details – such as phone number, email and billing address – that match the cardholder’s information. We will then re-evaluate it for fulfillment. Thanks for shopping at card.gift. .

              • @cooni: Thanks, I actually ended up getting my 3rd after about an hour, but yeah, won't push my luck further :)

              • @cooni: lol - I got blocked by the website itself after my 3rd

        • Only did 8 and got them straight away

      • did you use physical coles card or digital? can physical ones (on sale this week)) be used as well?

        • Why not, but don't really see benefits unless you need mobile payment.

        • +1

They can but expect to only be able to buy 1 or 2 of them before being flagged

  • +1

How about using multiple Coles Mastercard GCs to buy Card.gift cards (assume that codes can be used to pay for any gift card from Card.gift website) and accumulate them into a single Go to Visa Digital Gift Card?

    • Can these Visa cards be combined into one? Or that's what you're wondering yourself?

      • +1

I am trying to combine 2 Coles Mastercard GCs into 1 Go To Visa Digital GC since the maximum denomination of this Visa card is $500. And got one successfully.

        • +2

How did you do split payment?

          • +2

@cooni: Buy 2 Card.Gift cards, $250 each. With the redemption code, you can use as gift voucher to deduct payment amount.

            • @Wencong: Nice thinking!

              • @cooni: Yeah, nice one @Wencong. I was thinking of doing that too, but afraid that I'd stuck with that card.gift "credit" if this Visa went OOS

  • Thanks, good way to use my PayPal balance.

    • can you not withdraw it directly to your bank account ?

      • +1

Yeah but then it feels like real money. I use it for things I think I shouldn't spend rwla money on. Now I can do that in person as well.

  • Thought we had coles mastercard inception back, looks like it flags after a few of the Coles MC

    • yeah got flagged as well after 3

      • +1

Received my first $100 card straightaway. Bought another 1x$500 and still waiting……….

  • Buy this with Amex to get points/spend at places which don’t take amex

  • +1

    Such a short promo period.

  • +1

How long do you have to wait to get the Visa card? I have been waiting for an hour and still haven't received it. Only received the confirmation letter.

  • I bought 3 cards but only received 2 visa cards… :/
I have emailed them asking what happened to the third one even after the payment going through.
