Had a 980 pro and 960 Evo fail. That was with minimal use and had the firmware fixes. I'd be interested in something more reliable.

  What kind of failure? Sudden death with no prior warning? What did Samsung RMA provide you with as replacements? They used to provide newer model with larger storage size to ease the pain / upset. 980 Pro, however, I doubt Samsung RMA would have sent 990 Pro to you as a replacement.
  
  Any chance to get the production date of your failed 980 Pro? I suspect certain batches are more prone to failure.

  Yes, I would rather go with the Kingston KC3000 deal, since Samsung seems to have had a few issues lately. Kingston is cheaper too (under $200)
