    From Tom's Hardware:

The Crucial P3 takes the P3 Plus’s formula and applies it to a PCIe 3.0 interface. It’s fast enough to rival older 3.0 drives and has higher capacity options at a good price. It is also very efficient and cool-running with a sufficient warranty. This would make a good secondary drive for any machine.

    Pros
    +Capacity selection
    +Pricing
    +5-year warranty and software support

    Cons
    -QLC and DRAM-less
    -Low TBW
    -Still some performance pitfalls

    • There's a table on the page too that gives more in depth details on the specs, many of which seem to be missing on Crucial's own website.
A bit too busy to work out table formatting to post it here unfortunately

  • This or 1TB Samsung 970 Evo Plus at Scorptec for $79? Will be using it for storage only, not OS.

970 Evo Plus. For a storage SSD, you will be filling the SSD so the pSLC cache won't be as large as what the review indicated (for empty drive). Also, QLC SSDs use aggressive caching. Eventually, the data needs to be re-written in QLC form.

$61.20 + shipping at shopex with their current 10% off (auto-applied in cart).

Realistically it's more than sufficient performance for 95% of users. Would be a great device for laptops given class-leading efficiency. Desktop users or those who want more performance in a pci-e 3.0 drive might look to the 970 evo plus for a tlc + dram model at a similar price.

    • Which 2TB SSD would be best suited as a storage drive with high tbw? High speeds is not too important as I have the Kingston KC3000 as my boot drive

      • This is a good price. But unless you've got a particularly write-heavy workload you'd be unlikely to run into issues with a cheaper high capacity qlc.

  • Any decent 1TB SATA ssds under this price pt for a boot drive?

I'm using a Kingston nvme for the last 3 years. No complains at all.

      • My bad. Don't have an m.2 nvme slot. Just looking at the older ssds that replace hdds but use same interface.

  • Same price as a 1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD!

After all these SSDs and RAM getting cheaper let's just hope that some dev doesn't get encouraged to say in public 'Dont you all have fast SSDs and RAM' to hide poor performance of their games.

  • I got the P5 Plus 1tb from Wireless1 a few days ago for $120
