I wouldn’t buy glass straws this won’t last long at all

    • +1

Do you drink out of a glass cup though?

Anyway you can still buy plastic straws on Aliexpress.

      • +5

You don't put it inside your mouth though. I get we sometimes (used to?) put thermometers in our mouths but that isn't for any real length of time. Chances are probably slim that these would break inside your mouth but that's not something I'm willing to risk. You'd be in for a world of hurt.

        • +1

I guess if you don't chew on it you should be fine.

          • +5

@WatchNerd: You’d be surprised how many people chew straws

            • +1

@SpeedRunnerLink: NBA player Caron Butler used to chew 12 straws per game before the NBA banned it

              Just absurd

              • @CrispyChrispy: LOL please tell me they banned it for environmental reasons in a league where they travel all over the States burning fuel

                • +1

@Ghos7: They banned it because it was a 'safety issue' - makes sense I guess if you're chewing small plastic objects on live TV with young kids watching. Lol.

                  • +1

@CrispyChrispy: LOL next they'll ban jumping incase some kid hurts himself

                • @Ghos7: They banned him for his safety. In case he swallowed a piece of straw and he chokes on it.

But if you want to think they did it for environmental reasons. Go for it.

                  • @xoom: Why would I believe something that isn't true?

                    • @Ghos7:

The NBA's official explanation: it's a "safety issue." League spokesman Tim Frank told Tom Ziller of FanHouse

                      • @xoom: Yeah, someone mentioned safety issue already. What's your point?

                        • @Ghos7: Because you said you don't believe it because its not true.

                          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13849049/redir

So what would make you believe that its true why they banned him then?

                          • @xoom: No, I didn't say that.

You said it was for a safety issue and then said "but if you want to think they did it for environmental reasons. Go for it."

Why would I believe it was for environmental reasons when I have no evidence for it and never claimed it was for environmental reasons?

                            • @Ghos7: But you have an agenda.

please tell me they banned it for environmental reasons in a league where they travel all over the States burning fuel

We both agree that he was banned for safety reasons and what you said above is nonsensical then.

                              • @xoom: Your reading comprehension is lacking.

"Please tell me" implies that I don't know why they banned it.

                                • @Ghos7: Someone already said why they got banned before you 'implied' that you didn't know why he got banned.

Either way i guess now you know.

                                  You even replied to it.

                                  By stating:

LOL next they'll ban jumping incase some kid hurts himself

Im not saying i agree nor disagree with the NBA banning the player. While you look like you disagree with it based on the snide remark that they should ban jumping next.

Not arguing with you by the way. Just calling it how i see it. This is your opinion so you are entitled to it.

                                  • @xoom: What?

I read that they had banned straws.
I then said please tell me it was for environmental reasons, like a lot of places are banning plastic straws for.
Then someone commented on my comment that it was for safety reasons.
Then you replied to my comment that it was for safety reasons but that I could think it was for environmental reasons if I like.
Then I said why would I believe something that isn't true.

If someone said they banned the guy having straws before that then I didn't see it and I can't see it in the thread before I commented.

      • Do you drink out of a glass cup though?

Yep. Don’t even need a straw of any type to do it.

  • +3

This price and quantity is about to make me use them like they’re disposable 🤣

  • +1

    Perfect for kids

    • +5

      Yep including @jv :)

    • especially when they are in the pool :)

  • Sounds kinda dangerous. I’d rather take my chances with aluminium than getting a mouthful of glass.

  • +2

I've seen those re-useable rubber straws though I don't know if they smell over time if they absorb dirt/sugar

Best would be stainless steel or aluminum

    • How about both steel and silicone? I didn't buy these specific ones, but similar, 10 for $15. Over 3 years of use, wash in dishwasher, no smells. All good.

      • We use this, soak in it for 15 minutes.

        • Boiling water is very antibacterial. Bleach too if you were super concerned (the hypochlorite/active ingredient breaks down entirely and quite fast)

          • @incipient: We use this for cleaning almost everything such as coffee stains, water bottles, bath mat, shower room, etc. except the greasy stuff. Nothing is better than this imo.

          • @incipient: Your comment reminded me of something and you seem like the right person to ask. I think I heard it on FieldCraftSurvival YouTube channel. You can in an emergency situation, use a tiny amount of bleach in potentially dirty water (probably in conjunction with activated charcoal or something similar) to make it drinkable? I'll probably have to go and find the episode and rewatch it. I randomly picked up a 2L bottle at Bunnings recently for like $4 on special just because, and also mayhe because I thought I could drink it, in my above instance.. 😅

            • @WasBargain: Local catering shop has stainless steel straws at affordable prices - they come with a specific care guide but I’m sure it’s not 18/10 or whatever the good number is for quality stainless steel. Apparently certain types of non plastic straws have problems with certain types of drinks. Too much sugar can be quite acidic. But I’m sure you all know this. I have a packet of 50 paper/cardboard straws in case anyone wants one but they hardly get used but they are single use and go into the organics waste afterwards. The glass ones I sort of worry about but the metal ones as long as they are cleaned properly are fine. That’s just my humble perspective.

    • Silicon safest for kids.

    Ahh, perfect for smoking crack.

    • ONCE YOU GO CRACK, YOU NEVER GO BLACK! - Joe Biden.

  • Does anyone remember about some kid falling over while drinking through a metal straw and it doing some horrendous damage? Ouch!!

    • but think of all the environments that were saved

  • BPA free, did we know glass had BPA?
    And paper straws are smelly.
