Hey guys, I've been looking for the best price for this lens for QUITE some time now and I know I'll be jumping on this. If you purchase from Amazon Spain it comes to approximately $371.29 delivered (using xe.com for conversion).

The next cheapest I could find for a grey import is from DWI at $419 (when you select Canon Mount): http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProd…

Awesome price for a fixed aperture zoom lens with built in image stabilizer.

Good lens this, it's my main walk around lens on my 550D, hardly comes off the camera. Superb price also, nicely found OP

This is a great lens . Faster and sharper than anything similar for those sort of dollars .

  • Got link for Nikon version on that site… it's in Spanish >_<

  • This lens appears to be available from eGlobal for $267 plus postage. They are also grey market and I believe they may be associated with DWI.The DWI site lists this at $317 which usually includes postage on their items.

  • My mistake it is a different lens, please disregard my comments.

i may be wrong ; but the nonVC is sharper than the VC model?

    • That would depend on if you're shooting handheld or not, wouldn't it? :)

  • great lens. only leaves my camera for the uwa :)

  • Ignore the comments about the vic not being as sharp as the non vc, if you're pixel peeping you may notice it, however of you're hand held, struggling to get a decent exposure time at dusk, the extra few stops that vc gives you gets that shot , the non vc would end up a smear

i think VC only gives you 1/3 of a stop more light effectively. so, unless you are a night photographer without a decent camera this wont happen. if you are a night time photographer, you will know you need a tripod, and a camera with good noise performance upto at least 1600 iso.

I have both lenses and you can actually see the LD is much more sharper than the VC model with cheaper price. Unfortunately, the same sharpness with shake reduction can only be found in the canon model 3 times the price.

If you are trying to photo at night and still using consumer model of SLR, use the flash or be ok with some noise.

      • i always thought it gives an extra 2-3 stops.. i have the vc model too. if you pixel peep, the corners are not sharp.. but it certainly helps at time like asian night markets, or many indoor situations without enought light.

      • Excuse me, but what is the equivalent canon model of this lens?

        • 17-55 f2.8 - its about $900 @dwi.

  • does this have a built in motor?

    • Don't worry found out the info.

      very tempted

  • Hmm… Specs seem tempting, but I wonder how the actual image quality would compare with my Canon 17-40mm f/4L? One stop brighter and VC/IS sounds good, but I have my doubts about the quality of the actual glassware. Off to read some reviews then…

    • Don't forget that your 17-40 is a full frame lens and the 17-50 is suited to a crop sensor only.

  • The same lens for a Nikon mount is $383 delivered from Amazon.it (as compared to $404 at DWI) and does not seem to be available from Amazon Spain.
