Shokz Openswim Headphones $169.99 Delivered @ Bicycle Superstore

40

I was shopping around for headphones I could use in the water and found these were cheapest at Bicycle Superstore including delivery.

Only a few $ cheaper than club price at 99bikes but they don't have any stock near me.

Note - despite what it says on the site these aren't Bluetooth so there's no streaming.

  • I'd be curious just how good bone conduction headphones would work a) underwater and b) while swimming. Can't help feeling like the ambient noise from your head going in and out of the water, breathing, etc would be pretty loud

    • +1

I tried a cheap pair (not Shokz) - could hear music fairly well, but spoken word was unclear due to high levels of ambient noise related to water sloshing past the ears.

    • I have these and have used them a couple of times so far as a test in my pool and I was amazed how clear it was. I use them against my swim jets which produce alot of noise and rushes the water passed you. I didnt use them with ear plugs but I reckon it will make it even better to reduce ambient. I plan on doing long slow swims (because I am not a fast swimmer) so need these to pass the time. I also tested them whilst using the full face shark snorkel so I dont have to take a breath out of water and so any ambient noise doesnt change as you breathe (ie one ear comes out of water as you turn your head)

  • Can you bring your phone swim together ?

    • I guess so. But these aren't Bluetooth so not sure why

      • Bluetooth doesn’t work too well in water but you’d think for transferring music to them a little easier they would have included it.

        • Transferring files over Bluetooth is painful. Still surprised these only have 4GB storage - would have expected at least 32GB in 2023

          • @hotphil: 4gb is ~1000 songs. I don't think anyone would want to load anything close to that given how hard it would be to navigate through songs without an interface.

Kudos to those that can do enough laps to feel the need to occupy themselves with music or podcasts.

Assuming these can play Spotify offline?

    • No Spotify, directly downloaded music only.

  • Please don't be harsh on me and downvote. But, why do people need headphones while swimming? Is it similar to wearing headphones during cardio?

    • Better than music during regular cardio. With swimming you're literally just staring at the ground. Any other form of stimulus is welcomed.
