    Still the gold standard…

Chemical Guys Woolly Mammoth better IMO

For over twice the price I'm sure it is.

By that logic, the Kmart one for 5 bucks is the gold standard.

Wooly Mammoth can often be had for 40 bucks in sales at SCA for those willing to wait.

          • @greennick: Have 3 of the kmart and one of the Bowdens and recently gifted a wooly mammoth.
The kmart are great for the price and for someone on a tight budget
wooly mammoth is just bigger than the green sucker otherwise i cant tell the difference… well and the colour

Absolutely not the gold standard, gyeon silk is much better

      • Agreed, or the rag company's offerings

  • Spend the extra $7 and get the 18ct gold flake version. The neighbours cant stay away when im giving the car a mop!

  • The best

Conversely, that's also what they call me down my local PCYC on Irish night

  • How do you ‘revive’ one of these? Mines no where near as good as when I bought it a year ago. Leaving a lot of water behind

    • Read the part under machine washable :) https://www.bowdensown.com.au/guides/how-to-use/exterior-car….

      • I do the machine wash & tumble dry but storing it in a sealed container seems crazy?

        • Do you use microfibre wash or something similar like free and clear/wool wash?

          • @AusNugz: Wash it on its own
Thought maybe it’s picking up residue from the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Spray I use which repelling the water

            • @bloom: You will need to wash straight away before the ceramic spray turns the cloth hydrophobic.
Also if you use regular laundry detergent it’s probably clogged all the fibres.

              • @AusNugz: Ah didn’t even know there was detergent specifically for microfibres, will give it a try

                • @bloom: And definitely don't use fabric softener.

If you are just getting in to washing your car at home I suggest ordering this instead. $20.95 extra but you get a superior drying towel, wash mitt, car wash and a iron reactive wheel cleaner.
Compared to Bowdens products & pricing:
    BGS $25
    Shagamittastic $22 (Automotive Superstore)
Auto Body Gel $12.34 (Automotive Superstore)
    Wheely Clean $26 (Automotive Superstore)

    Total price for Bowdens $85.34
    Waxit price $45.95
    Saving: $39.39

  • Is this better than using a chamois ?

    • Yes it is safer (that is considering you are already undertaking wash techniques that prevent scratching/marring like using the two bucket method, microfibre wash pad instead of a regular sponge, etc.)

  • I prefer twist loop towels but my mate is a happy BGS user

It's great while it last which isn't long before the towel degrades from drying cars effectively. Such a shame.

    • Depends how you wash and dry it. I've had mine for over 2 years and still looks and performs like new.

  • I've used individual microfibre towels before but this is certainly much superior.

I have one of these as well as a collection of $5 Kmart drying towels

Kmart drying towels are my go-to every single time. They aren't as absorbent but depending on the deal you can get 4-5 of them for the same price and collectively, they hold more water than 1x BGS.

This means you can do different parts of the car with different towels saving you potential scratches and marring eg. upper body, lower body, door jambs & engine bay, wheels.

Not saying the BGS is a bad towel, you'll just get a better result from several Kmart towels than you will from 1 BGS

  • I use the BGS and marvel at the green shedding on the car. I think it is getting better but I don't worry as I use the Meguiars detail spray after most washes.

  • Anyone have recommendations for a separate washer/washing machine for all these microfibre cloths/towels that are used on cars?

  • i've been using meguairs water magnet for the past 10 years. it's amazing, but i have to twist dry a few times when washing suv, which is not too bad considering the towel isn't that big. Is the green sucker much better?

  • These aren't bad from supercheap, however as someone else has said, better absorbency can be found from the likes of waxit and the rag company. I personally have used I'd say a good 70% of the towels out there and my top 3 are the liquid8r from the ragcompany, supercell from waxit and the gyeon silk drying towel so far.

  • Can't see the price after login, has the offer expired?

  • Picked up two of the Meguiar's new orange mega dry towels, for $46 at SCA. Wasn't on the shopping list, but grabbed them quickly.

Obviously a pricing error, but grabbed two to add to the collection of microfiber drying towels.

Rate it as good a the Chemical Guys Woolly Mammoth, especially at that price.!
