I have a feeling OP got themselves a 64Gb Steam Deck today.

Im waiting for a next gen Steam Deck, something thats a bit more powerful. Whilst I love the design and the approach, AAA games at 720p is just not cutting today's standards and in 2-3 years the current Steam Deck will be obsolete.

      • +1

        a bit more powerful

current Steam Deck will be obsolete

Lmao do you even listen to yourself

        • -4

Am I right though? Being rated to only play AAA games at 720p at 30FPS? When games like GTA V that will demand the moon, you wont be able to get even 15-20.

Whilst I respect the product idea - its got a long way to go.

          • @AircraftFreight: Rog Ally is the way to go

            • -1

@tonyamazing: It is but for most AAA games it will not be able to reach such FPS thresholds on high/ultra presets. Cyberpunk 2077 on 800p "High" settings will net an average of 24 FPS.

And we are not even talking about new games to be released in the next year/2.

              • @AircraftFreight: I'm not debating other games, but you only gave one example in your comment. Like @vash12 says, grab an ROG Ally if you want more performance. The Steam Deck is great for what it is.

Edit: never mind, I see you've already ordered one from JB.

      • I was waiting too, plus local official support. But for the price it seemed decent. Nearly half of what the Ally costs.

The Ally also has reports of a lot of games crashing. Which I’m sure they’ll fix with firmware over time.

The other competitors on the market seem pretty good. But warranty and support on some is questionable.

  • Anyone found a good external enclosure specifically for these size ssds?

    • I've been looking for a similar enclosure too for 2242 SSD

    • you can get adapter plates for the shorter SSDs to convert them into 2280, then surely any external enclosure would work fine.

      • +1

        Compact enclosure would be nice.

        • exactly this, the thought process would be even smaller to carry around. I have a 2280 one already, it's fine, but yeah smaller would be nice :)

    • I've picked up one of these the other day for $19, works a treat. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005532212992.html

  • Does this work for surface pros?

    • +3

Yeah, have a 512gb in my pro 7+ that works well.
Tried to use the wd pcie gen 4 but it was too unstable.

      • Thanks, what solution did you take to replace the system hard drive?

      • unstable?

  • +1

Not a bad price. I bought half the size for my surface for around $70 roughly.

    • May I ask how did you transfer the data to the new one?

      • +2

Funny thing is that I could not remeber although it happend only about 8 months ago. Came back to me after a bit of effort…
I didn't want to buy those SSD enclosures for a one off job, so I have just used an OTG USB with the Windows Recovery Drive app. Obviously, that's to copy the system… And then the files that you have on the old SSD can just be copied as usual.
With an SSD enclosure I could have just cloned the system, but I didn't bother with any of that and just reinstalled whatever software I needed onto the new system.

        • If you have a spare 2.5" SSD around, you can clone to that and then the new one. Double the effort without buying the adapter.

        • +1

Just be careful that both SSD's have the same sector sizes. Cloning won't work if they're different.

          Source: personal experience.

  • Wow, I bought this from Aliexpress less than 2 months ago for $US77+gst. Good price.

  • Anyone know if this works on a surface pro 8?

    • +1

All good. Messaged the seller and they said no

  • Bought this for the Steam Deck and it works. But… on the website it says Samsung product of Korea however what I got says product of China.

Not sure if something dodgy is going on, but so far it is working fine.

    • were you able to upgrade the ssd yourself on steam deck easily or was it a hassle ? cheers

      • +1

Yes I did it myself. Was pretty straightforward although a little stressful. Very well worth it though. You need one of those tiny screwdrivers for electronics.

  • I ordered the 2TB SN740 from these guys recently and it arrives tomorrow… are LZB reputable enough that I don’t need to do some kind of a test to ensure it’s genuine capacity? Can’t wait to put it in my ROG Ally!

    • Any update?

  • Has anyone out this in an rog ally ? How’s the experience been. On the fence to get one Vs as sabrent
