Anyway to extend stop overs on these flights to spend some time in Guangzhou?

    • Not sure if the airline allows multi day stopovers, but if you just wanted an extended stopover (<24 hours) try clicking around on dates to see if any of them have a route with a long stop. If you do find one, generally China Southern will provide you with free accom in Guangzhou (if you meet their requirements and there is no shorter connection).

  • Any decent deals for south korea ?

Actually the prices on CZ are not bad for that same period (september 23), at just over $800

  • Damn that's good

I know, I'm looking but they're just not there yet. But, $795 on Philippine Airlines/ANA to Tokyo is not too bad!

a question, do we need Visa to China, if the flight is not direct?

    • Last time I transitted through China in 2019, and this was even with different tickets, I had no issues.

Remember most airports allow you to Bypass entering the migration zone when you are connecting like this flight. Always check up yourself but it would be very unusual as most airports in countries around the world, usually offer a way of not going into the migration zone.

Just remember to make sure you baggage is checked through to your final destination.

      Their website has a guide:

    • No. Any in fact several major hubs have 24/48 visa free periods to enter as well as transit if you want to look around

    • The only country I know that's fussy about that is USA, most countries in the world will allow visa-on-arrival for transits or a short visa-free periods.

  • can you drop the second leg of the flight and only fly to GZ and return?

generally no. If you are a no show on a portion of your flight, the airline will cancel the rest of your itinerary.
The only exception to this is if it's a point to point airline (usually the low cost ones are, I recently did this with Cebu Pacific).

So good. No Brisbane yet though. Show some love to QLD people, we love travelling too haha

    • I feel you Brisbane! There are direct Qantas flights for $1049 that are not bad at all

      • Such a good deal! Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately my travel dates are last week of Oct to 2nd week of November. Wanting to squeeze Korea in-between as well!

        • How about $1366 on Korean Air including the side trip? Not exactly $600s, but not a bad option

Booked from Melbourne to Haneda return for 640pp.

    Thanks

  • That is an incredible price with China Southern. This would be my first time organising international flights, are there any 'gotchas' regarding these flights? Tempted to book them in now for 2x adults.

    • Nope, just book them! Booking through the airline (at a slightly higher cost) is a little safer than booking through an online travel agent if anything goes wrong, but its just a good deal - no catch :)

  • This sounds really good. Never been to Japan before. Just checked the weather in September and it seems to be rainy during that time hence better bargains? Does someone know of its worth visiting at that time?

  • Does anyone have any experiences on overnight layover in Guangzhou?

Yes, I have done a stopover on the way to Europe, where China Southern provided a free hotel and transfers as my stop was over 8 hours (I think around 20 hours, but this was a few years ago). You don't need a visa - they have a 144 hour visa-free transit policy. There was some waiting around at the airport while they organised everyone and allocated hotels, but I don't remember it being particularly painful.
Keep in mind not all fare classes on China Southern are eligible for the for the free hotel & transfers.
      Hope that helps!

      • Thanks a lot! That's really helpful!!!!
