    • Is it hard to sideload books on to?

      • +1

nfi idea mate, I didn't even check the specs or anything, just bought it because I don't want a Kindle

      • +6

It's not really sideloading as the Kobo supports it. Just use Calibre for your books. Using your library card to rent books and magazines is excellent too.

      • Nah pretty easy, I use a free program called Caliber to transfer books.

      • Easy. You just use calibre to push them to the device, from your pc and it will also covert the format if required.

      • +3

It also support syncing with cloud storage such as dropbox or google drive - just need to google it to find out how to configure it. I just drop the epub books to that particular folder and it will appear on the reader.

      • +6

You can literally just copy them on via USB, if youre too lazy for Calibre.
Or use https://send.djazz.se/ which is what I do the most.

      • +5

Easiest thing in the world to sideload, its made to do it. Don't need any software, just plug it into your pc/mac and it will pop up like a usb drive, and copy over.

Can open many formats, and also will view images and comic books that are in CBR,CBZ if that's your thing

        • +3

You can even run the content server on calibre and just start the browser on Kobo with a particular address and voila all the books on Calibre will be visible to download.

      • Super easy, they just come up as thumb drives.

    • +2

      Thanks I've edited the post

np, you're still on your Ls

  • Love my Libra 2 that I got for about $250

    • I don't even know why I bought one. My last ereader was a Nook

      • +1

apparently you can hook it up to your local library, and also side load books in epub and mobi formats.

        • I have a shitload of epubs. Didn't know about the library thing though, thanks.

I thought this would have a micro sd slot; 32gb is plenty for epubs, but makes the audiobook function kinda useless

          • @rosebank: Yeah, the interface might be a bit slow for Audiobook. A phone will do a much better job.

    • Yeah, I am a big fan of mine too. I upgraded from the Libra H2O due to USB-C charging and the better contrast.

    • What cover are you using? Or is it rugged enough to go naked?

        Mines naked, its fine.

        • (profanity) it imma go naked

          • +3

            @rosebank: It's nice IMO.

I just make sure I put it in the laptop/tablet section of my backpack when travelling.
Actually, last time I just threw it in the top section of my luggage. It's perfectly fine.

            • @theguyrules: Perfect, cheers

              • @rosebank: Yeah I go naked, when I chuck it in a bag though I put it in the cardboard box it came in, it's pretty slim. Partner put it in a beach bag once without the box and ended up with a few very distracting scratches on the screen, but I've gotten used to it

      • +1

The foldable sleep cover is great as a stand. If you're going to get a cover best to get the foldable one over the standard one.

        • I'll be travelling soon so a cover would be a good idea, thanks.

      • +1

I recommend the cover. The screen is just plastic so fairly easy to scratch. Also it's convenient to be able to put the Libra to sleep just by closing it.

      • +1

I'm using this and it's okay. Wakes up and goes to sleep by opening/closing just fine. Didn't want to spend so much on a kobo cover and I had a coupon which made it like 10 bucks.

        • Thanks, grabbed the green one to try.

  • Bugger just bought my Clara 2e for $194!!

I've had a Libra 2 a few months and so far have read half of Prince Harry's book, Spare.
I've put it down after that and not touched it since.

    • +10

      Read a better book.

    • +3

So your Kobo is now a spare?

  • +1

This or a kindle paper white? (I know how to use calibre!)

    • +4

      This!

I have the older Kobo Libra H2O and also Kindle paperwhite and prefer the Kobo.

    • +4

This - for the page turning buttons.

    • I was in the same boat. Went with the PW in the end - usually bought books from the Amazon store, the processor in the PW is significantly faster, and I could read my books on any device if I didn't have my Kindle.

Those were the things that persuaded me in the end.

  • I have the H2O and my son has the Libra 2. Wife and daughter have the Kindle Paperwhite. I much prefer these to load books onto rather than having to use Calibre (not that Calibre is really difficult or anything).

  • Which is the best for borrowing direct from a library. I think kindle is pretty crap for that but works with the Kobo's?

    • +5

Kobo, yes. Has Overdrive built into the Kobo itself and you can also use ie Libby on your phone and have it sync.

    • +3

Kindle can’t borrow from library in Australia. Kobo can.

  • Anyone know if you can highlight text and make notes with these? Thanks

    • +1

      Yep you definitely can.

  • Is storage only 2GB for the Libra 2? Or is it a typo on both ebay pages listed above?

  • Ebay says 2GB, but 2GB now seems too small.

  • Bought this for 279 2 years and it was well worth it.

Get Calibre and a USB cord and you've got an infinite amount of books to read.

    • What are the steps between Calibre and USB cord?
I can't PM you to ask a more detailed question

  • +2

Got the Libra 2 for Christmas after much umming and ahhing.

Absolutely a great move. If you're a regular reader, you won't regret it.

  • It is costing me about $14 a month for Amazon books for my son. Considering you can borrow library books with the Kobo, should I ditch the Kindle Paperwhite and get this?

    • +3

It's worth joining your library first and looking at what they have available and how long the wait times are. Sometimes there's a long wait to get popular books.

      • I've read that you aren't limited to just your local library. Most other council libraries can join online so you have a much wider range of books to borrow but I've never tried…
I'm in the same boat weighing up to move from the Kindle to Kobo

  • +1

Every day, I want an e-ink reader. But also every day, I realise I don't read that much, it's mostly audiobook and Reddit threads lol.

    • Yeah I know the feel, my e-reader needs replacing but I told myself I wouldn't unless I actually start reading more frequently

  • +1
    • Thanks. Wish I hadn't of waited as I want to get a black one.

  • Kobo Libra 2 or Boox Leaf 2?

Tried surfing the web for some comparisons but not having much luck.
I'd to copy PDF books onto the device and have the option to use various sources like Kindle, Google Play Books etc…

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you 🫡

  • Damn. I just drowned my 10yo paper white and all the libra2s are oops..

    • oos…

  • Has anyone got theirs from Allphones yet? I asked and they said they're waiting for the courier.

    • Mine arrived on Tuesday
