This morning I checked Amex and had a 10% back offer (might be targeted) and sweetened the deal. Please save to your card first. Get 10% back each time, up to $1000 back.

Checked Qantas shopping site and the 5% disc. code was available and says it expires in 72 days.

As for the monitor, seems like a fav around here so surely decent enough.

Brilliant - I've saved the Dell American Express offer already so will pick this one up later today. Thank you!!

    • +5

Ordered! Got it for $679.50 with a UNiDAYS student coupon + the American Express 10% cashback offer. Brilliant stuff 👍🏻

    • Where do you receive these offers? My Mrs has amex and doesn't know where to look. Email? App?

  • How does this compare to the Gigabyte M32U?

    • The Gigabyte comes with a KVM which depending on one's use can be a deciding factor.
But this price is hard to beat

      • is KVM a separate device box?

        Why would someone need this?

        • +2

It's a feature that's built into the Gigabyte monitor itself. Allows you to swap between two devices connected to the monitor.

Handy if you only have the one monitor for WFH and gaming, you can use the same monitor, keyboard, mouse and whatever else for both without having to unplug anything.

    • They're close, but this display seems to be more colour accurate out of the box according to RTINGS but forgoes a KVM

  • +4

Hahahaha I picked this up last week, had a feeling it’d end up on sale. All good though, I squeezed an extra 7% off with student discount. It’s a really good monitor, highly recommend. Noteworthy that there is no USB-C, and only DisplayPort 1.4. DisplayPort won’t be a problem given it’s “only” 4k 144hz.

No USB-C caused me some problems using it with my work monitor. HDMI with my work laptop could only output 4k 30hz or 1440p 60hz. Easy fix though - picked up a DisplayPort to USB-C cable, can do 4k 60hz or 1440p 144hz.

    • I use a Caldigit dock for my MacBook that lets me get 4k144hz over usb-c using display port.

      • That dock costs you another monitor, I couldn't find a valid reason for myself to buy such expensive dock.

        • +1

I paid $250 I think off marketplace for the older model.
It drives my 2 monitors (including this one) and it's nice to just have one cable.

          • +1

@theguyrules: Still, good to know it’s possible if I wanted to cough up the dough. The monitors in office max out at 1440p, so I’m running it at 1440p 144hz either way, otherwise every time I go into the office it’ll resize all my sticky notes 🫠

  • Would this still be considered a good deal without amex?

Been eyeing out this specific model for a couple of weeks

    • +1

I think it's pretty good I paid $732.64 about a month ago with the extra student discount.

      • Cheers. I think I'll order one now haha

    • +7

There was a time I decided I wanted to build a PC that could play 4k at 120-144hz. I found out pretty fast that the build would be around $5000 and the monitor would be $1500. Last week I bought a build that can handle that for $2400 and this monitor for $750. So, in a way, it’s a fantastic deal for people who’ve been patient!

      • huh? a 4k build for $2400? what you running a 4070ti?

        • +1

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB. There was a deal a week ago on here for a build with that card for $2000, I added some upgrades and bought some extra storage and cooling myself

    • for a 32" uhd ips hdr 144hz monitor, i reckon the price is extremely competitive. i've also been eyeing it for a while now

  • -4

I'd be waiting for OLED offerings.

    • +4

Sadly unless you're willing to spend double +++ the money, OLED isn't happening any time soon…

      • The lg c2 42" was only $300 more a couple months ago, not sure if they will re-run that promo though.

        • that is a TV though..
which has some annoying features for a monitor (auto dimming)
and the font rendering is not as good due the different subpixel layout

          monitor is much more expensive…

          • @pinkybrain: Eh I disabled auto dimming and havent noticed any font issues, plenty of people use it as a monitor

            • +1

@Postal Dude: Does disable auto dimming void warranty?
Did you buy a service remote to do so?

I know they used it as a monitor (from the last c2 deal)

pentile subpixel layout not an issue for you?
              text is sharp in browser?
              is there any text fringing?

I read that people don't like it or has issue with it

              • @pinkybrain: Technically it voids your warranty but it is said LG doesn't check the service logs when you make a claim so unlikely to matter.

You can do it with a Windows application over your network. Forgot what it's called but I used it and it works great.

I don't sit on top of my TV so I don't notice any text weirdness. You would if you were very close though.

                • @BradH13:

what does this application suppose to do or fix?

what are you talking about ?

                  sit on top of TV????

                  • @pinkybrain: Emulates the service remote and sends other remote commands to it.

Surely you've heard the term 'sit on top of' before? It means sit very close to.

                    • @BradH13:

Surely you've heard the term 'sit on top of' before? It means sit very close to.

nope, first time heard this as a term.

If you using this as a PC monitor
Most people sit about 60cm to 1m from the desk (this is how most desks are built.

Are you using the 42" LG C2 as a monitor?
                      How far do you sit?
and do you have any pics of your desk?

So you don't get text fringing or less sharp text?

            • @Postal Dude: I second this, I know plenty of people with the 42" C2 as their monitor

      • From what I have been reading is that 2023 is when OLED monitors could be considered mainstream.

      • I recently returned my G3223Q. I have a 42 C2 Oled now I bought from a factory seconds store for the price it had last couple of months ago!
I don't think C2 is coming back. they are being discontinued. Have to wait for the C3 when C4 is about to release to get the best price.

I am way happier with the C2 compared to the G3223Q.

        • +1

I came from a Xiaomi 34inch ultrawide to the 42c2. I much prefer the c2 for gaming. I keep an old 32inch Philips for more work related stuff. I know the c2 will last since my old 55b6 is still going strong 7 years in with no burn in.

          • @DangerNoodle: I couldn't be productive on the 32 inch but I'm ok with the c2. 4 windows on each corner.
Using it now for 70% work and 30% media and games.

            • @Oauiii: Aren't you worried about static UI elements burning in?

              • @Diji: I was worried at first, but hey, it's so cheap. claim tax on it. Would be happy if it lasts for 2 years.
I put in a black wallpaper (which confuses me sometimes if it is on or off), deleted all icons. I have a habit of doing WIN+D to minimize all desktops when I quickly step out or when I minimize porn.
                Screensaver set to 1 min.
I don't mind doing all these.

I'd say the excellent experience outweighs the worry by a big margin.

                • @Oauiii: Still pretty ballsy IMO. For that price I'd be wanting at least 5 years out of it.

        • I have a 42 C2 Oled now I bought from a factory seconds store

          Which factory seconds store?

          • +1

@CVonC: Factory Plus in lidcombe. For $995.

    • Not a good idea for productivity/office work with all the text fringing people are getting on OLED monitors.

  • +4

Perfect for Xbox series x and ps5 with the hdmi 2.1 input

  • +1

I didn't get the amex offer otehrwise I would buy it

  • Hello,
Can you get the AmEx statement credit/cashback offer on the David Jones AmEx card?

  • Bought one of these last year - gaming, productivity and photo editing.
    Highly recommended

  • Could anyone with monitor knowledge enlighten me if this monitor G3223Q is straight up better than this one below:

    Dell UltraSharp U3223QE 31.5" 4K
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/740512

    Apart from the ports?

Seems like the G3223Q comes in a lot cheaper with a better refresh rate and HDMI 2.1. Looking for a new work monitor.

    • +1

I suspect the ultrasharp only supports 60Hz, but the colour accuracy should be superior.
So really boils down to whether you want a higher refresh rate monitor or not.

    • +3

Different categories. Do you use your monitor for productivity or gaming?

      Gaming - G3223Q
      Work - U3223QE

    • If you are just looking for office use I've had really good value out of this dell 27" IPS 4k:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s2721qs

There is also a verision with USB-C (65 watt):
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s2722qc

      • +1

I have S2722QC I got for $329 from Dell Outlet, and it's an amazing screen, also solid in gaming

    • +10

      Different types of monitors.

      • The U series is likely pre-tuned with sRGB mode and other graphics work related modes.
      • U3223QE has USB-C support, but it is limited to 60Hz.
      • U3223QE appears to have an inbuilt USB-C hub with KVM feature + LAN port.
      • U3223QE has more ports, better split screen support, but doesn't seem to have VRR (though VRR for 60Hz monitors is gimmicky).
      • U3223QE supports USB-C/MST, so you could connect another monitor to it (to the DisplayPort out port).
      • G3223Q is for gaming. The model starts with G. So, it priorities features gamers care more about (HDMI 2.1, 4K/120-144Hz 4:4:4, HDR600).

Note: only some PCs support USB-C/MST, Apple does NOT support USB-C/MST. Apple opted for Thunderbolt based daisy chain technology.

U3223QE is more for work. G3223Q, if you want sRGB for example, you need to get a monitor calibration tool or a colorimeter and tune it yourself. G monitors have presets for gaming modes.

      • Thanks for all the responses folks!

Learnt some new things. In particular the USB C supporting DP1.4 bandwidth would result in the USB A ports to drop to 2.0. That is interesting.

        • +2

No, sorry I confused you. It depends.

If your device supports USB-C/DP 1.4 mode, you still get USB 3.0 support. However, if you have old devices which only support USB-C/DP 1.2 mode, to get 4K/60Hz, the monitor has to drop to DP 1.2 mode. Example devices with USB-C/alt-mode DP 1.2 only: current Android flagship Android phones with 4K output capability. Macbook Pro 13 inch 2017 or below. Macbook Pro 15 inch, you need to check (but generally 2018 or above is safer). It is possible to still get USB 3.0 for DP 1.2, but you need to accept 4K/30Hz.

It does get a bit messy if you have mixture of USB-C devices where some support DP 1.4 and some support DP 1.2.

I removed the DP 1.4 mode USB speed issue with 4K/120-144Hz support because that's really complicated and since the monitor does NOT support 4K/120Hz, there is no real point going into that much details.

          • @netsurfer: Ahh ok I think I understand then. So this is more a limitation of older generations of hardware, compatibility, bandwidth.

            Noted. Thanks for clarifying.

    • If you don't need the high refresh rate, then U3223QE is better, since it has USB-C interface, KVM, and more importantly, it has IPS Black panel, which means up to 2x contrast than your typical IPS monitor. It also has more ports.

    • I've been waiting for a deal on the G3223Q for weeks and ended up with a used U3223QE last night :D Iucky that I don't have AmEx, otherwise it would be another headache :D

  • +1

Anyone who owns this tested it with a PS5? Does PS5 VRR works with this monitor? I think Series X VRR would work, just not sure about Sony PS5.

    • +2

      It supports vrr for ps5

    • +1

Both Series X and PS5 VRR work, can confirm :)

  • How are black levels on this? I have the S3221QS at the moment but I have been offered a refund on it by Dell as it doesn’t work correctly on a Mac.

I use it for Flight Sim 2020 where darks are important. Will this monitor provide decent dark scenes or can I expect cloudy/ muddy/ crushed dark greys as it’s IPS?

    • +1

I have the S3221QS and this monitor side by side. There's less noticeable backlight bleed on this monitor compared to the S3221QS. So the blacks are more uniform. They are also as deep as the VA panel which is good for an IPS. But if blacks are important for you, I would skip these and consider OLED. IPS can only do so much.

      • Good to hear!
Is this an upgrade overall over the S3221QS?

        • +1

Huge upgrade. I swapped from playing PS5 on S3221QS to this and I was blown away. The colours are stupendously accurate. The brightness is immediately, noticeably better. And the motion handling and higher refresh rate is a game changer. I'm considering replacing the S3221QS with another one!

          • @ifreddo: If not a game player, this or 3221QS?

            • @hishaken: If you're not gaming, this monitor could be overkill unless your work depended on having a colour accurate monitor.

The S3221QS is perfectly good for general use and work from home. I'm still very pleased with it and use it everyday for work and web browsing/media.

If you decide to game later, it's a great starting monitor for gaming if you're gaming at 60fps. I have the Nintendo Switch dock connected to it now after moving the PS5 to the G3223Q. It's the ghosting that bothered me the most about the S3221QS in terms of gaming performance.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to go on special as often these days. They used to dip under $400 and if you can get it for around that price, I'd definitely jump on that. If you're paying over 400, I'd save a bit and get the G3223Q.

              • @ifreddo: Thanks for your reply.
3221qs is not under discount ATM.
Purely for work perspective don't know whether 3223q is overkill

            • @hishaken: Bear in mind the S3221QS does not work well with MacBooks! I am getting a refund from Dell as mine suffers from flickering, weird vertical lines when plugged into a MBP. This is a common issue with that model.

The monitor itself is pretty good for the money though. I paid $530 back in September 2021. I think it’s still around that price now.

  • +5

Bought 3, will post a pic here sometime soon of a new setup ;-)

    • +3

Did you go through dell chat and negotiate a bigger discount for buying 3

      • You could do that? :(

        • +1

Yeah it’s a possibility. Doubt it would be anything massive but hey $20 is $20 right?

    • following for pics

    • @AircraftFreight got a pic of the tri-monitor setup yet?

      • +1

Only have 1, other 2 are waiting for collection :)

  • This, or a few more bux and some patience and an LG C2?

    • +2

I waited it out and bought a c2. I do not regret my decision in the slightest

      • What price did you get the C2 for?

        • +1

Think I got the 42" for around $1080

          • @adamshere: That’s a great price! I’m still kicking myself for missing that $995 ebay deal

  • Great monitor. Only issue I've found with it recently is for some reason is doesn't like outputting Switch audio via hdmi through its headphone port. It seems like a bug as it works when in PIP mode.

But not too hard to plug into the headphone port of the switch

  • How does this compare to https://www.harveynorman.com.au/samsung-32-inch-odyssey-g50a…

    $240 off right now.

If I don't care about the 4k resolution would this be a better option? I have an RTX 2070S as well and the g50a is G-Sync compatible.

    • +1

It depends on which resolution you game on and whether your eyes can tell interpolation (when using the 4K monitor to display 2K native, without Windows based display scaling - which is for apps only) - most people can.

Odyssey G50A isn't officially HDR400 certified. However, no idea how good the HDR 600 on this Dell is (hopefully, not the el cheapo local dimming hack like my Dell 27 inch 2K 144Hz gaming monitor). HDMI 2.1 module inside a monitor does cost more and the included cables should be better quality (cables don't really matter since HDMI 2.1 cables are cheap nowadays and it is still DisplayPort 1.4 not 2.0).

Both monitors are G-Sync compatible. That's nVidia's trick to support FreeSync (calls it G-Sync compatible). Neither monitor has true nVidia Gsync module installed. For 2K, I am using 1:1 for 27 inch. I am hoping for 32 inch, 4K 1:1 would be suitable (no need to use display scaling, while I like display scaling, I prefer larger desktop size).

    • Unless you're preparing to upgrade that 2070 I'd probably go for the lower resolution monitor. Assuming your primary use case is gaming.

  • how's the ips glow on this 🥶

    • I am buying sunscreen in preparation.

It's luck of the draw, depends on the panel you received. G series, so don't expect super duper IPS in terms of IPS glow.

    • I know right, I have the 4K 60hz, the glow is horrid.

  • That's brilliant. It's hdr?

    • Yes, HDR 600 (though I have some doubts on whether it is true HDR 600).

It supports 4K 144Hz @10bit 4:4:4 with DSC. Would really like to know from people who owns the monitor whether it tells you which mode (refresh rate, bit mode, chroma subsampling) it is operating) coz. Series X and PS5 aren't exactly perfect in its 4K/120Hz implementation. Series X is better in that regard though. PC, obviously, not an issue.

      • I'm very tempted. However what kind of graphics card will you need? A 4070 will handle it? Else I'll do for a 2k resolution

  • +2

Hopefully there is deal for U3223QE soon.

  • +1

It’s good but FYI updating firmware can only be down via a Windows machine (not even via VM).

  • +1

    $300 waiting room

also not wewwwwwqhd, not sexy at all

  • Difference between this and qa3221q?

  • Is the screen ips?

  • +1

Oh the holy trinity: 4K, >100Hz, 32” IPS. 🤤 I might wait a bit and see if they come down in price.
