Anyone has any suggestion on a cordless leaf blower only?

    • If you have already invested into the Ozito PXC system, I would recommend the blower in this kit for light duty, or the brushless jet blower kit for medium duty.

      • The 36V Jet Blower is also great, though skin only for $149, so perhaps not worth the ~20% more volume and 5% higher air velocity vs the 18V one.

(though in terms of kinetic energy available in the air stream to move stuff, the 36V model is about 35% more powerful overall)

    • In my area there are a load on FB marketplace. I think people buy the kit then realise they don't need it or it's not suitable for their needs.

Trimmer is trash. Why even bother blowing? Just get a broom and sweep into the bin. Much cleaner this way

After I modified,I am happy with it. It works better with a star shaped trimmer line. I bought some from ebay.

      • @jimojr Did you make this attachment or is an aftermarket one?

        • +4

You can buy one from ebay.

I remember somebody posted an easier way to put the trimmer line on from last deal, couldn't remember which deal.

        Found it https://www.randseq.org/2021/06/update-line-adapter-for-ozit…

      • Very interested in this do you require anything more than is in the add? Is the install fairly straight forward?

        • +1

A longer bolt and superglue, use superglue to hold the alloy line trimmer head in place as when the bolt is tightened it moves out of position causing a lot of vibration. I put the pvc wall plug in the middle of the trimmer line before tightening to stop damaging the trimmer line. I also found out it is better to use one trimmer line than two because the motor is not strong enough.

          • @jimojr: What length bolt was required?

            • @monitha: It's been so long, I don't remember, probably 5mm longer than the original.

            • @monitha: Just checked, the one I use is 20mm.

      • Very good modification, how difficult is this change?

        • Very easy, see my comment above.

          • @jimojr: Thanks for sharing your modification process and I will consider implementing these changes on my own trimmer.

    • I use a blower to blow the grass off my mower so it doesnt catch fire when I store it away when it's still warm. My mower has protruding cables so its a lot safer/less damaging than using a brush.

      • +1

        Whaaaaaat?

        • Spontaneous combustion is a very real thing with dry thin grass clippings when you have trapped heat. Theres some annoying areas between the top of the engine and the chassis where clumps of grass tend to collect on my mower.

      • Must be one spotless mower you have

        • +2

Not really. Lol. It's a 20+ yo banged up victa mower but its torque destroys my electric mower so I still keep it and split their use.

      Why even bother blowing?

      Why do you think?

It's more convinient and easier then manual labour.

    • Mine works just fine. Small backyard, but always hit roots and stone but it's sturdy enough

i bought it when it was same price before
    leaf blower isnt that great.

Not good from my experience. Not recommended

Got the 29$ trimmer kit deal from a while ago during COVID I think it was. Still have it, not the best kit but good for a small yard. Was totally worth for just the battery and charger alone.

I've got the blower just to blow the dust out of the garage and shed. It's really good at that.

As far as blowing grass - it's shite. I'll stick with my 2T Stihl blower thanks.

  • Both ordinary. Got the same kit.

  • both are…ok. I can't wait to sell mine.

  • I think there is hack to change the trimmer to use line.

    • See my comment above.

  • Trimmer is lousy but the blower does the job although a bit slow.

  • +3

I actually quite like the trimmer, its no good for big jobs, this is for a courtyard or a nature strip that you are obliged to look after and thats about it, but because of the blade style its actually really good for precision cutting to make the edges look super neat. The blower again, courtyard or nature strip, these are bottom rung tools for small household jobs, but I quite like ours. They chew juice so larger 3-4ah batteries are the better op.

$100 I would say is the par, I would not spend any more than that.

  • I bought this a few years ago and if you are in a market for a good trimmer then I won't recommend this. Every time I use this, I lose 1-2 blades in a span of 30 mins. They are too weak and not good for trimming especially if you are looking for a close cut.

Blower is average and does the job but I use that very rarely.

I am curious if you have noticed a pattern of what causes the blades to come off?

I picked up one of these in the $29 deal a few years back. I use it every time I mow, and I have an overgrown corner block that needs a lot of trimming.

In 50+ uses I have gone through about around 12 blades, and that is because they have worn too short. I have only had the blades come off a couple of times, and that's only because I have accidentally hit certain sharp or solid things that pops it off. I could just put the blade back on and keep going - though one I didn't see where it went, so forgot about it until spotting it next time I mowed.

Don't get me wrong, it does not replace a line trimmer completely, since it's not designed to hit up against solid surfaces like line can and won't do edging unless you can be precise. But between this trimmer and my edger, I never crack out the line trimmer anymore.

I speculated in the past that the blades were worse in the very first versions. But at least from the $29 deal on they seem great, as 10 of the ones I went through are from that. Out of curiosity I tried third party blades but they are hot garbage and snap incredibly easy.

      • When the blade starts new, they are fine but as I use it, the stress causes the blade to stretch a bit around the circular grip that attaches to the trimmer and then eventually it break. I have tried putting the blade back on once it comes off but when they reach that point, it’s an indication that they won’t long beyond that point and that is generally what I experience after that.

Most of the time I only use it to trim the edges of the nature strip. Around the top of the grass these seem to be fine but as I get to the roots, it gets quite thick and hard and that’s why I start to lose the blades.

        • Anecdotally, the early blades (~3 years ago) were not great, or there was a bad batch. So they seemed to break at the attachment point.

But the stretch issue you are having sounds different. I took a look at some very worn down blades I had sitting in the garage. No sign of stretch on the attachment point.

I suspect the issue is using it to edge down to the roots. Like you say, it is thick and hard, so it's hacking against pretty solid material compared to normal trimming. It's not really designed for use where the blade is constantly hitting against things it can't easily cut. That is the sort of job where a line trimmer excels, because the line is lighter and more flexible.

Or an edger, with a metal blade that can handle it. I use the Ozito PXC edger on my nature strip. It is decent enough, but IMO overpriced at $179. I have a corner block though so hated edging other ways, and it is quick and easy. Even the metal blade wears down over time.

        the blades last fine

if you want to avoid them flying off you just need to pay attention to when the motor is bogging down, this is putting tension on the circle grip, stretching it, if you continue to do this it will fly off

the motor will bog down the second you push the blade through a solid object, so avoid doing that by paying attention to the pitch of the motor, went it bogs down move the head away from the solid object and continue, you do that and they wont fly off, instead you'll wear them down

btw you can buy cheap ones on ebay which work fine

also there is a line trimmer 3d model available for free, haven't bothered with it yet as i bought a hundred blades for $10 off ebay and they work fine for me

  • Anyone tried to use the blower as a car dryer?

Obligatory post of the stupid but fun video I made of the trimmer being used on things that are not meant to be trimmed.

Keep in mind this blade trimmer is not meant to replace a line trimmer. The blade is not designed to hit again stuff you don't want to cut - whereas that is what a line trimmer excels at. So it's not good for running along hard up against a wall or fence. You can trim those areas - just it needs a bit of precision rather than the delightful reckless abandon possible with a line trimmer.

Overall it is pretty hard to get the blades to come off IMO unless you hit a sharp edge, or something that pushes them back hard enough to unclip. In two years of normal not silly use (and I am not especially careful) the blades have only come off a few times. Sharp edges of colorbond fence poles can do it if you accidentally hit them. Or the sharp edge of bricks - like at the end of the video.

If the blades come off you can put them back on, presuming you see where the go. Blades otherwise last ages unless you have them rubbing on concrete or similar.

Third party blades are terrible and not worth it.

(Mine was from the old $29 deal.)

  • I absolutely loved the old $29 trimmer kit. I have a 650m2 block I clear several times a year. This thing was pure wizardry (ran for about an hour with a 4ah battery, yet weighed nothing).

I have a makita petrol line trimmer for large grass patches, but the little Ozito blades do a heaps better job of cutting thick weeds (you would think it would be opposite, but it isn't). Still using the blades that come with it. Can get through 650m2 on one blade.

I tried adding line (just fed it through the blade loop holder and tied it off). It worked well for a few times. But it didn't have the torque to drive a long line through thick grass. Really gave it a flogging one day and the plastic fan blades to cool the motor ended up melting. Without cooling, the motor got so hot it caught fire… but super impressive.. was still spinning up like a champion. Once it cooled off, it was all.seized.

Went to get another from Bunnings, but they dont sell that model anymore. Bought the new equivalent. Hope it's half as good as the old one. Note it's a bit heavier. I'll stick with the blades/ short line on this one. 2 X 20cm.line was too long.

If I see the old version on marketplace, I'm buying it..can outperform a petrol Makita on some jobs…take my money..

  • Not sure why the mods didn't mark this as OOS - check all the post codes for 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 and you will see that only Alexandria in NSW has stock (1) ….
