Looks like one I got from Big W or Kmart about 5 years ago for $30 or so. So plastic-y you can't move at all without swoosh-swoosh-swoosh.

      Audible Nike, I like it!

  • Doesn’t say what the filling is but says the inner material is polyester, probably won’t be as warm as down.

  • love the size chart, not only is 4XL missing from the chart, but the only measurement you have to go on is "half chest".. how do you measure a half chest?

    • +25

Grab a tape measure, check how big your quarter chest is and double it silly

      • +6

Ha! of course! now I do feel silly. My mother is a seamstress, and she taught me to sew, and now I sew for my children, so taking measurements is something I do often. I will be having words with mum about her not teaching me about a half chest measurement!
I mean, I have so many questions now - which half do you measure (or quarter?!) what if 1 peck or 1 boob is bigger than the other? if you can have a half chest measurement, does that mean you can have a half hip and half waist measurement? half height? where does it end?

        • +5

Good point. To get a better average, measure a double chest, then use a quarter of that.

    • Never heard off half chest

You usually measure from nipple height and leave approx 1 finger loose.

I know this, and m a guy and have never sewn

dunno abotu you, but wardrobe fills up real quick tbh. if you're not careful, you'll have a whole stack of stuff that you never wear, taking up space and just being an all round nuisance.

better to be selective and choose BIFL items when it comes to stuff you'll wear regularly. /2c

Standard attire in Melbourne, you will get funny looks if you're not wearing one.

Only ever saw Franco Cozzo wear fine wool Italian suits on those TV ads. Name checks out.

A decent lightweight down jacket is one of those things that's worth spending a moderate amount of money on- there are plenty of options around the hundred dollar mark. I've got cheap down jackets from 2008 that are still going strong and warm.

Versus this polyester-filled piece of landfill. It's so cheap that they don't even bother to try give the poly filling a fancy name- essentially this jacket is full of pillow stuffing. I mean, if you're broke it's better than nothing, but this is the perfect Sam Vines boot analogy brought to life.

    • Agree, but to play devils advocate this jacket will probably last longer than down, it just won't be very warm.

      • Down will last for decades. I have a 30 year old down sleeping bag where the polyester lining is failing before the insulation. The bag itself is too still hot to use in Australian winters.

Good down gear, properly looked after, should last over a couple decades. Even average down gear should last over a decade- my cheap stuff certainly has.

On the other hand, polyester fillings flatten out far more rapidly after repeated compressions.

Come to think of it, my warmest down jacket (a Marmot, it was about US$100 at the time) was bought mid-90s and I'm still using it now. The only uncertainty about the longevity of down is in regards to the waterproof treatments that some of the higher end down jackets and sleeping bags use, because the treatments haven't been around long enough.

Most high end manufacturers use these treatments, but some still refuse to because they are not convinced that the chemical treatments will be good in 20 years time, whereas they expect their down products to last longer than that.

i mean, a jacket that isn't warm will prolly last forever, coz you'll probably never wear it. coz it ain't warm.

  • Womans clothing

  • It looks like the sides don't have the filling. That seems odd.
