    This stuff is pretty good.
For an oil change drain it then put nulon in run the car for 5 minutes drain it then put this stuff in. 👍

Why would you drain Nulon for HPR5? Both are good oils, I'm a very big oil nerd.
While I'm a bit of a Penrite fan myself, my mates 500KW Subaru prefers Nulon by a long shot, judging by the dozens of UOA's he and I perform on our toys.

        carrot…

usually go to friends place. puts car on hoist. flush with crap oitl get bits out. put good oil in. win.

Not interested in oil megathread :-)

Penrite is good oil and good at this price.

I'm a bit of a car enthusiast myself and never heard of this. What kind of car and engine you doing this to? Must be highly modified or tuned?

          • +1

            @Thinkswithelbow:

Must be highly modified or tuned?

Unlikely if it's only getting HPR5.
This oil has too much suphated ash to be for a highly modified car; we're talking 1.28%. It's well formulated to keep the daily drive, and the slightly tuned cars nice and clean; but that's about all.

You don't want more than 1% in a highly modified car that needs THAT level of care; for every bit of 'cleaning' additive you include, you're losing out on lubricating additived (or, just more base oil).

        • Look, I’m a car professional for 30 years working for the best car companies. You drain old oil through a filter and then reuse drained oil for flushing. Then put the best oil in. The best oil is V, V for Valvoline. You know what I mean.

Where do you get this done?

        • +1

We're actually within an hours driving distance of an oil refinery, and they help us car guys out.
They also have cheap fuel on-site before the servo's add their markup.

          But, before we learned about that;
          https://www.nulon.com.au/nulon-store/product/11-oil-test-kit
          Good service.

I highly recommend UOA's for anyone who's a Mobil1 fan; just to be sure your car is ACTUALLY loving it.
It's a strange oil, and some cars show near ZERO wear using it, which is incredible. Where as some engine designs just HATE it and show 10k wear levels at 5k.

Is it totally necessary? Sounds like waste of oil and bad for both my wallet and environment. It is just a car, are you sure it cannot tolerate to have a tiny bit of old oil left in it to mix with new oil?

      • -4

        Yes.

        No.

        :-)

        • +1

You should try and find an engine builder who knows what they're doing.
If your answer to: "are you sure it cannot tolerate to have a tiny bit of old oil left" is "no", then someone has greatly screwed up your tolerances.

Besides, you wouldn't risk HPR or any non-AN oil in an engine that sensitive anyway.

      • +4

It really comes down to how you like to treat your car, but to sum it up, no its not necessary.

There are specific oil flush additives that you can put in the used oil to help bring out any bad stuff stuck in valleys and the rest, using a whole oil change worth of new oil doesn't necessarily flush anything extra out so old mate is essentially wasting his money.

      • +1

Not even slightly neccisary. A few ml of "Old Oil" won't affect your new oil in any way thats actually relevant.

Besides, his advice to flush the engine with an oil, using an additive package based around MolyTDC; to then refill with an oil with an additive package based on Zinc and Phosphorous? It makes no sense.

If the engine in question is truly that sensitive that it can't handle a few ML of old oil, then the Nulon left over is much more likely to destabilise the additive package of the penrite (or vice versa).

Besides, with an engine that sensitive, you wouldn't be putting anything 'HPR' near it, you'd be using an Alkylated Naphthalene strengthend oil; and there's really only one in that weight that's readily available over here; https://www.nulon.com.au/products/engine-oils/race-oils/full…

  • Great timing, thanks.

  • It's hard to find this at a good price again. I bought a couple for $48 from supercheap in March

    • *each

  • Sorry out of topic, I am about to buy oil from Spareszone ebay store. Can I confirm with anyone who has bought from them that they are ok and legit? Thank you.

  • Thanks. Just noted in the store it is actually 6L! Great deal.
