  • Thought the first film was very good, surprised I never felt the urgency to see this one at the cinema. Not long to see it on Disney+ I guess!

    • +19

Well you missed out big time. Won't be the same at home

      • Depends on your setup so guess, most cinema projectors have awful image quality anyway

        • +1

Do you know why this is? Is it just because people don't realise? I started getting into home theatre and I've realised that the images are quite grainy and 'low res'.

          • +1

@idonteven: I find its the excessive lighting that does the most harm. Gotta have that emergency exit sign cranked up and cast a green haze across the screen. The abundant stair and seat lighting further washes out the picture. Went to the flicks the other week to see Evild Dead Rises, a very dark film, but the darkest parts were still a milky grey-green. I get a much snappier projector image at home.

saw it in imax 3d and then the 2160p on 85inch 4k samsung.
just a personal opinion but trust me when I say there I'm glad I saw this in the cinemas.

          • @ashtrayc2c:

            saw it in .. 2160p on 85inch 4k samsung.

            how did you do this?

IMAX is the best of what's possible in a commercial cinema, sure… For a fair comparison to home cinema, one would need a 4K Blu-Ray feeding a 4K HDR LED panel (LED meaning "OLED" or "microLED"; and, not an LCD panel with LED backlighting aka. "miniLED", "LED LCD", "QLED", "not-quite-LED" and other nonsense intentionally bamboozling customers).

            • @AlexF: 35gig mp4 on pc, hdmi2.1 (with the right HDMI obviously) to the tv… just tv speakers though.

      • +1

I've heard that there was a once in a lifetime chance to see it in IMAX 3D, but the way things are looking with VR we'll soon enough all have our own IMAX 3D goggles at home in a few years. I guess it'd be weird having to buy enough goggles for everyone in the family and seeing their uncanny valley 3D personas sitting next to you watching it. But my state doesn't even have an IMAX cinema in it anymore, if I had to fly to see every IMAX movie I'd end up paying thousands over the years.

    • +1

      Wow are you me?

In fairness, I tried to see it in imax 3 weeks after release and the seats were still booked out so I didn't bother.

    • +9

You didnt miss out on anything, it's almost a clone of the first one. Story is absolutely predictable, cliche after cliche, after cliche, cliche fest. Terrible attempts of emotional situations where you really don't care what happens to anyone. Bullets flying everywhere, and 99% of them are dogged, i thought we left that behind in the 90s. And graphics, effects aren't nothing special neither, nothing not seen already. Max score overall that this movie can get realistically is 5/10 and that's generous. Overhyped, overrated.

      • lol what's your idea of a good movie, something from the MCU?

Avatar 2 was an absolute blast and OP would be remiss to not catch it in IMAX. It was exceptionally good, incredible cinema by James Cameron with the 3hr long movie time flying by.

I didn't think I'd bother to see the 2nd movie but my partner bought us tickets, so I went along and I was left incredibly impressed with the 2nd iteration. Far better, graphically and pace-wise, than the first.

          • -3

@drazenm: As I said in my comment, I wasn't even going to bother watching it until my partner bought the tickets. I went in with no/low expectations.

            Try again.

I guess my quip regarding you preferring MCU movies is spot on, huh

        • +8

Avatar 2 was bad and this is coming from someone that was forced to watch it twice in the cinemas in both 3d and 2d. I agree with the OP apart from the visuals but at that point i thought i was just watching a video game cutscene.

i just found it ironic that you're defending avatar while thrashing on MCU movies when they're literally cut from the same generic cloth. Banshees, The Whale, Women Talking, Everything Everywhere are some current ones that I would rather watch than spend 3 hours watching video game cut scenes

          • +1

            @bakemon0:

            • The Whale
            • Banshees of Inisherin
            • Everything, Everywhere, all at once

All on my to-view list. Might I recommend Good Time with Robert Pattison, the Sound of Metal, Whiplash with Miles Teller/J.K Simmons.

i just found it ironic that you're defending avatar while thrashing on MCU movies when they're literally cut from the same generic cloth.

I just don't know how you come to this conclusion. It's written, created and directed by James Cameron. The cinematography is far, far better than MCU films. The graphical fidelity is immense and astounding.

I am not easily impressed, at all, when it comes to films.

          • +1

@bakemon0: You couldn't pay me to sit through inisherin again premise is great but it's a drag of a movie.
I thought avatar 2 was alright, it's a bit bloated and slow in parts but they did a good job of setting up the characters and I'll go see avatar 3 to find out what happens next

      • +9

each to their own with the characters and writing, but describing the visuals of Avatar 2 as 'nothing special' is just being absurdly contrarian

      • Agreed 1st was a lot better.

        • -1

          And with real actors.

  • +1

Just my opinion but I didn't enjoy this as much especially as it wasn't in 3D but worth a watch at home if you have disney plus.

    • It was awesome in 4DX :)

    • It was 3D in cinema - effects were better than the first.

    • -1

It was in 3d - you must have attended a cinema or session that was in 2d

      • +1

Yup. It was in 3d. Still have the plastic glasses they handed out when i watched this in the cinema.

  • -1

Or you could subscribe to gamepass and interact with the CGI

  • +21

I thought the first movie was so-so. Have no desire at all to see this one.

    • +4

      Okay

    • +22

      Cool story bro

      • Thanks for your cool comment bro

    • +14

Please continue to give us your detailed thoughts on each movie deal, very informative

      • +1

Everyone else does in favour of. Read the Terminator comments. People love James Cameron like he's a god on here

      • Oh no, someone in a discussion forum gave their unbiased opinion on something! Shock horror, will someone not think of the children. Pull your head in you muppet.

    • +1

This is how I feel regarding anything James Cameron does. The most formulaic, 'crowd-pleasing' American movie making is painfully boring to me these days.

    • +2

It’s pretty crap. Some of the scenes felt like a PS3 cutscene

      • I stopped gaming because games became movie cutscenes.

  • +7

    7.8/10 ign too much water

    • -5

LOL. Its literally in the title. Like watching die hard. Complaining of too much dying in the movie.

      • It's an older meme, but it checks out.

  • +2

The first one was much better, didn't enjoy this one's storyline.

    • +2

it was completely the same storyline lol

  • +2

ok, good to know but this is not a deal.

  • -1

Anyone knows if top gun maverick is included the subscription of Disney +?

    • +13

Yes I know, I just google the answer then.

      • +3

I never understand this sentiment of knocking people for wanting a human response.

        • +2

I never understand this sentiment of knocking people for wanting a human response.

Ditto. Good on ya mate. Prefer the warmth of a human response ( sometimes) than a cold embrace of a friend like Google. Brrr.

        • +1

Shameful thing is the Dude that asked doesn't know to ask a search engine hehe :)

          • -1

@lostgoat: Chaka Chaka Chaka Chongah, Chaka Chongah, Chaka Chongah, chow.

          • @lostgoat: dude, you better never ask a question on any forums. sb.

        • +3

It's actually useful to ask a question lots of people may have, in the comments, and have someone answer, if hundreds of people then read it.

(This is not one of those questions, though, I think. Top Gun has nothing to do with this deal.)

    • +1

No, it's not a Disney film it's a paramount film.

    • +1

      No. Paramount Plus has it.

  • -1

I thought I saw this already Apple TV. Surprise it's not on Disney+ yet.

  • +9

Dissapointing movie, if you've watched the first one its literally the same plot.

    • +5

Lucky I have forgotten what happened in the first one then.

      • +2

        Lol same here.

Sam Worthington Something something blue people tail sex something something fight robot man

  • +1

Will it be 4K UHD wiff ATMOS/DTSS:X tracks n dat?

    • +2

Disney offers that for a lot of movies, so I'd imagine it does. I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy in IMAX +DS. Literally the only MCU movies I can tolerate

  • +3

    OzAnnouncement.

  • Ho-hum 😴

  • +2

Awesome. I'll spread this over 4 nights!

  • It has subscribe. I would like a unsubscribe to individual deals . Not the whole category of subs.
It will help get rid of commonly known pollution.

    • +3

You've been here since February. Calm down

      • +3

        Lovely human response 😂

  • I really enjoyed the first movie - even though it has it's issues, I loved it in many ways.

I saw this movie and it made the first one look like a masterpiece, not great.

  • Refuse to give money to disney but good to know there will be a good pirate copy in a few weeks

    • -1

You should also refuse to steal and watch their product then if you have some kind of ethical problem with them.

      • +1

pirating is not stealing boss - but considering im sure you and eveyone else has pirated your hypocrisy rings loud like most tall poppies

the very fact there are posts on how to 'pretend' you are from Turkey or some other country to get cheap spoitify is probably closer to stealing then piracy but i also dont consider that stealing

        • I have. I just don't carry on about Disney being rubbish while feeling compelled to download and consume their product. What I'm questioning is you whinging about Disney while you sneak off and enjoy their product.

          • @tonka: Please quote where i 'whinged' i just said i didnt want to give them my money

As a general rule i dont want to give my money to anyone if i can avoid it….in which Ivan easily avoid it inthis case…

Read me username - this is ozbargain not r/Australia boss no one cares

            • @Trying2SaveABuck: Fair enough then, I was reading you as a similar tone as the fanboys that bag Disney at every turn while obsessing over their content.

              • @tonka: no idea who these 'fan boys' are but the Disney Share Price has dropped from just under 200 bucks to 92 dollars perhaps the critics are 'right' but im just a stingy bloke from Australia wadda i know

                • @Trying2SaveABuck: Seems more likely because it's a business where most of it's revenue depends on theme parks, tourism and theater attendance all very heavily impacted by co-vid.

                  • @tonka: Fair point i would of thought they would of raked it in like Netflix etc did due to the streaming services and not needing to pay staff but perhaps everyone is just pirating like me.

                    So you're probably right

    • +4

good pirate copy has been out for months

    • What do you mean a few weeks? It'll be up by sunrise.

    • speaking of total lack of ethics, please stop advocating for piracy, it's a garbage take

  • +3

I quite enjoyed this movie. I do think that unless you have pretty mad set up at home, this one was a great experience in the movies/cinemas.

    • +1

I didn't get a chance to see at the cinema, should I skip the home viewing and wait for re-release? I get that it's a visual experience and I'm particularly intrigued by the story.

  • +5

I enjoyed this movie but a huge part of this enjoyment was the visual experience. I was really impressed by the immersion and improvement in 3D. Sadly a lot of that experience will be lost no matter how good your home set up is due to 3D no longer being supported on Modern TVs. This is one of those must see in cinema experiences.

    • +2

Exactly why these blockbusters i watch at the cinema. No home theatre unless you are baller will ever match the experience in a cinema.

    • Spot on . Best movie in years with 3D effects even better than original if seen in cinema with the expensive $1 glasses.

      • You got ripped big time, my local one gave out the glasses for free.

        • I paid for one but when i walked into the cinema they gave me another. So now i have two. I kept it for future 3d movies.

    • The movie literally runs at 30,60,120fps in the cinema, it's an absoloute mess of a film. It's just crazy the decisions they made, utterly fascinating if you're into film at all, hell of a spectacle.

My jaw was dropped, not so much from the visuals but the decision to make such weird crappy changes, so regularly, it was utterly fascinating.

      • @hamwhisperer
        Wot?
Runs at 24 and HFR 48

        • I was pretty sure I read somewhere there was at least 3 different frame rates it ran at, if you saw it in 3D at IMAX.

It was a jumbled mess regardless.

  • Now we wait.

  • When is the remastered original coming to D+???

I didn't watch this at the movies as I wanted to watch the first one again remastered at home first, … oh well. Both our loss I guess.

  • +1

Deal it is, I regret spending my time watching it.

  • +1

    It’s too painful.

  • -8

    This movie sucked so much

    • -2

downvoting without a valid reason is a bannable offense

    • Holding back are we? Tell us what you really think.

  • -1

these pricks cancelled my subscription so now i can't watch anything on this shitty streaming platform

    • +1

      Why did they cancel it?

      • -1

no reason given, they just cancelled it
