  • Cheap gen5, I would buy it if I didn’t own a v15, a robotic, a big ball Dyson and a old dc31

    • +15

      You really suck! ;)

    • +1

Hate to say it Wiadro but the Gen5 Detect is a massive upgrade on the V15 (returned it within 30 days as Gen5Detect came out during that time). They fixed up heaps of things like having an off/off button, brighter light, etc. I was peeved when it came out within that period but Dyson have some of the best customer service.

      • Wait. Did Dyson finally have an on/off button instead of a (profanity) trigger? Momentus product design awareness.

        • I reckon the trigger style button was key to them being able to market these to men.

I’m guessing a lot more men vacuum these days because of the (supposed) technology in the Dyson devices and marketing.

Also, battery time used to be more of a concern. You could move somewhere else and start again without actively switching it off.

        • No
          It's an off/off button.

      • Always wondered why they have a light that uses battery power. Do you vacuum in the dark.

  • Bought it for 1149 a week ago and was feeling happy, now its 128 cheaper :/

    • +18

Oh well. You only paid $128 for a week of quality sucking — that doesn’t seem so bad

    • +7

Being an Ozbargainer is like being a Jedi. Always knowing there will be a bigger fish/bargain. It's a curse.

      • +3

I’m pretty sure there are no Jedi here… OzBargain is on the dark side

    • +1

If you bought it from TGG, you can get the difference back with shop gift card.

      • I bought it last week $150 extra. Is it possible to get gift card from TGG? Don’t we need gold service to get store credit?

    • If you bought it from Dyson they do a price difference rebate if you call them or alternatively can return and buy from the good guys

      • Bought from eBay :(

  • +16

FYI Shopback has 8% cashback (capped at $50) and allowing this code from 3-9pm today.

  • Would the V11 be a nice upgrade from our V6 animal?

    • +2

definitely, longer run time, stronger suction and quieter operation ( damn i sound like a dyson advert!). seriously it is better, especially at this price.

      • +2

Looks like it also has the "easier to empty" style of dustbin too.

That would be the biggest selling point for me if I was going to replace my V6.

        • +4

Even V6 to V8 was worth it because of the improved emptying.

      • Thanks! Does this one have the hair detangler function? We have a long hair problem in our house!

    • Anything over V6 is better than V6, bin system is way better on newer models.

    • Snap. I’ve got the v6 animal too. I think my motor is about to die though haha after 5 years. Guess it’s time to do some research on the v11.

      • +1

We've had our V6 animal for 8 years. i think the V11 should be a nice upgrade :)

    • How about v10 comparison 4 years old?

  • -3

Honestly I don't know why people still buy Dyson sticks. Ive had 3 and everyone I know has dumped them as well. Battery failure, too complicated to clean properly. I bought a LG stick and never looked back.

    • +4

      You are special :)

      • +4

        Thanks

    • I have both, rarely if ever do I reach for the LG (which I currently don't reach for at all because it has had its second battery failure).

  • Damn! I've held off years for a Dyson but went and bought one last week, now here we are 160$ less! Good find OP

    • +1

I hope that you didn't get your doctorate in economics because it is $160, not 160$. Sorry, but this is one thing that really irks me. Sorry that you just lost the cash too.

  • +1

The complete vs absolute for the gen5.
What is missing from the absolute?

  • Is the V11 good if my house is mostly floorboards and tiles?

    • Pretty much any vacuum will be, the more power is better for deeper cleaning carpets

    • +3

I'd recommend the fluffy/soft head (which the V11 doesn't come with), I have the V10 with motorbar and it's just not great on the pet hair or litter which I've put up with but been annoyed by for several years - plus it's slightly scratching the new dark floorboards we've just installed, so that's the last straw for me - I'm thinking to get the V15 from this deal and sell the V10 because of this. You can buy the soft head separately, but it's $149, which is not nothing. The motorbar is supposed to work on hard and soft surfaces but IMO it's not the best for hard floors.

      • Cheers, I have dark floorboards as well so that's good first hand experience to hear about.
I did notice it didn't come with the fluffy head but wasn't sure if that was a critical missing item for my use case or not.

    • -1

Get a Henry vacuum. Way better suction than any Dyson and will last a lot longer.

  • I know someone asks this every time there’s a post about Dyson vacuums, but is a soft fluffy head required / extremely beneficial for someone with only hard floors / tiles?

    • +2

See above - I think the soft/fluffy head is not absolutely essential, but for me after several years of not having it, definitely preferred (to the point that I'd now only pick a model that comes with it).

      • Thanks didn't see your replay above!

  • Worth the upgrade from a DC59? Thinking of giving the DC59 to dad.

    • -1

DC59 is like 10 or more years old. Please don’t give him that.

  • Is the gen5detect Absolute an upgrade or downgrade from the Miele C3 Complete/Powerline ?

    • Following.

    • Depends on what is important to you, they're both great vacuums in their own right

  • Can I use my multiple TCN gift cards on it? Many thanks.

    • Don't think Good Guys online supports split VISA payment, @WookieMonster ?

      • Yes, but their question does not involve Ultimate gift cards.

(You can see my response below.)

    • +2

I assume you have physical TCN gift cards that operate on the EFTPOS network? If so, do not rush into exchanging your TCN gift cards… at least until you figure out a plan of how to redeem them.

The only way you can redeem physical TCN gift cards on the TGG website is by exchanging them for a TGG gift card. You can currently do this on the TCN website (or you can go instore).

The issue is that the TGG website will only let you redeem a maximum of 2x TGG gift cards in one online transaction. However, you can redeem an unlimited number of TGG gift cards (or TCN gift cards) in a physical TGG store.

If you want to use your physical TCN gift cards to pay for this item, you have some options:

      • Exchange two of your TCN gift cards for TGG gift cards, then pay for the remaining amount owed using another payment method (e.g. PayPal, 1x debit/credit card, 1x Ultimate (Visa) gift card).

      • Go to a physical TGG store and ask them to price match this deal. Then you can use multiple TCN or TGG gift cards to pay for it. Alternatively, if you call TGG, I am not sure if you can do payments over the phone, but you should be able to ask them to pay for your order at a physical store.

      • Go to a physical TGG store and use multiple TCN gift cards to purchase 1x or 2x TGG gift card, which means you can then go home and complete the purchase. Staff may or may not let you do this, so keep this in mind.

  • Has anyone use v10, v11, v15 on a normal carpet.

I'm using v8 if turn on to max power impossible to push on carpet due to suction too strong.

So I wonder is there any point getting more powerful hand-held for carpet?

Or the head design is flawed? When I use std dyson corded vacuum I don't have any issue.

    • I have carpets all around and am using v10. Had no issue with too much of suction power on it. Even in a boost mode. I’d prefer to have even more powerful Dyson tbh.

      • Thanks, I think if I hold it on a lower angle would help but I'm quite tall.

I broke my DC59 wand at the joint when I turn to max mode and push it hard.

So now been extra careful with V8.

    • I had this issue with a v8 and really low pile carpet, I couldnt push it. I tested a v7 and it worked fine. I think it might have to do with the head style? v8 has rubber lip and the v7 has a felt like lip.

      • Thx.

I believe v10 and v11 the same as
V8. Ie. rubber lip at the rear.

But I also had the same problem with my DC59 ie. The model before v6.

My corded dyson has 2 small wheels at the front and 2 wheels at the back.
        Hence no problem.

While stick cordless they all have only front wheels on the cleaning head.

  • I tried several version in the store, and they look heavy to me. Which version is lighter? I need to buy one
    Thank you

    • +4

you tried them in store and can't determine which one is lighter?

      • Yes, because lightest version (DC12) was not there :)

There is no harm in asking for others' helps and opinions in OZB :)

    • +1

      Dc12 is the lightest

    • +1

I'd wait for a sale on Dyson V12 Detect Slim, they are pretty light and decent.

  • I just did a price check on the good guys website using there price beat button and it dropped from $786 to $776. Does anyone know if doing this will void the cash back?

Also does store cash void the cash back?

    • But it’s $628 with the code, which doesn’t stack with the $10 price beat.

  • Do v6 attachments work on the v11?

  • Gen5 Detect is awesome. A massive upgrade on the V15 (returned it within 30 days given Gen5 Detect came out)

    • Interested to hear why you believe so (over V15)

      I believe Gen5 Detect attachments work with V8, V10, V11, V12 but need to re-confirm. Anyone?

      • +1

I think all the red button attachments are interchangeable. My old V8 tools work on my V11, even the powered ones

  • +16

Dyson eBay store selling Gen5detect at same price $1021.00, extra $100 discount for Ebay plus user by using code PWESNS.

Just in case if anyone interested.

  • Massive discounts on all non-essential stuff including white goods all around the market.. is there something unexpected to happen in the world ?

    • Maybe you just got used to COVID-affected prices?

  • Does anyone have experience with V11 and longer hairs.. do the hairs get tangled around the roller still? i notice this comes with hair tool? Thanks!

    • +1

They all have anti tangle heads now

  • V8 to V11 worth the buy? My V8 is basically useless

    • We upgraded from V8 to V11 but only because the bin is larger and it runs for longer - if we wanted to do the whole house with V8 it had to be in 2 sessions. Yes on the high power modes the V11 is more powerful. Otherwise the V8 performance was good, what issues are you having with it?

      • I ended up buying the V11. Our V8 literally just doesn't suck anymore. I even replaced the battery with a genuine Dyson so something's gone wrong with the unit/motor possibly. If there's any "difficult" suction it starts pulsing

        • That normally means there is a blockage somewhere, the filters on the V8 have a tendency to block up pretty quickly and need regular maintenance… Or like you said the motor unit could be faulty.
