So how do I explain to customs that I fly out of the country and back over 2 days just to get FF points and status credits?

    • +4

      Tell them you're an Ozbargainer.

    • You still get status credits for these tickets??

      • If you pay the fee for the starter plus bundle.

  • If only I could actually use this deal myself, it leaves from pretty much every city BUT Adelaide :(

    • Use the 20% off Jetstar domestic deal to go to another state.

      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/77483

      • I would if only the Tokyo flights didn't leave at 6am :(

        • they had the exact same deal last year, I'm from Adelaide :) fly to Melbourne or Gold Coast, you can possibly get return flights to Tokyo for about $700. There's an Adelaide - Melbourne flight that arrives around midnight, if you don't mind hanging around the airport for 6 hours.

Jetstar to Japan from Adelaide is unfortunately not practical.

Once you include the cost and time of an overnight stay in cairns or gold coast there and on way back you are better off going via Malaysian, Qantas, Cathay or Singapore.

      • Im hoping maybe Virgin or Qantas will have their own sale in response lol

      • I can see where you are coming from, but realistically over the December period, a 'sale' price from those jokers costs about $1800. Given that Jetstar can do it for $1200 or less, add in the Domestic flight ~$300 + a hotel for a night ~$100 (or even just sleep at the airport) and you're still better off.

On the plus side Jetstar stops over at Carins (Australia), which means you can duty free your alcohol from Japan, rather than everywhere else stopping over at Singapore etc which means that would be impossible.

        • I don't remember saying I was looking for a December sale at all. Im looking for one in September, and I have found Qantas for $1000, Cathay Pacific for $1100, Virgin for $1200 all from Adelaide. I have also found Qantas/Japan airlines combined for $850 but that means a 12 hour layover overnight in Sydney.

      • very practical, did it last year during the same sale. if you don't mind hanging around the airport for 6 hours, take the last flight out of Adelaide and you can make the 6am flight to Tokyo from Melbourne. still much much cheaper than any other airline's offering during that period.

        • Thats not particularly practical in my books! Getting the last flight out of Adelaide then getting the 6am from Melbourne means a total travel time of nearly 24 hours since you won't be arriving in Tokyo until 10PM the following day.

At $1000 return for the full service airlines you want an Amazing price with Jetstar in order to put up with that. You mentioned you got it for $700. $150 each way to have to deal with long layovers and the risk of jetstar cancellations its just not worth it.

        • It really depends on how much time you have available for your holidays. When I was at uni and had plenty of free time but not a lot of money 10 hour lay overs and the like were perfectly fine. Plus any cash I could save meant I could do more things on holiday.

Now that I am working full time, a 10 hour lay over means one day less holiday. Working also means money is less of an issue than when I was a student. I would never entertain the idea of such a long stop now unless the flight was insanely cheap.

  • I get a page not found error when I click on that link. Anyone else?

  • Ok, most in my family are still scared of "radiation", no matter how many times I have traveled there and come back as superman, no one else wants to come along, anyone else having a similar issue with the fly… lolz ?

  • Thank youuuu

I'm not so sure Cairns > Osaka, I mean, I know there's the Daintree and Great Barrier Reef around there, but it's no Osaka. I guess this is subjective though…

  • Anyone else not able to get to the Multi-City Booking page?

great find, am seriously considering this

  • Thanks for the heads up. Would love to go again but it's just a tad bit too early to go skiing at that time. Does anyone remember if Jetstar ever has Japan sale flights in Jan/Feb?

    • im going to buy for snow, so I can go skiing, the peak season is jan/feb, but im sure there is still snow in december because the season starts early as nov..?

      • I went a few years back in early December and you should be right for snow. Fresh snow was dumping each night and since it was early in the season you basically had the slopes to yourselves.

      • Actually now that you mention it I think you are right and it does start in November. Lift passes are cheaper in early/late season as well!

Now I just have to get out of work…

  • This is an amazing find seriously thank you so much! love this forum community.
I am serioulsy considering booking in the next few days before the sale ends or gets sold out! thanks for the heads up its so cheap!
sorry to hear your in ADE, you should try get a cheap one way and fly down to gold coast or melb for the deal if you can

  • Great deal.

However 2 years ago we took it and it was not a pleasant journey at all.

Back then the pilot tried to land at Tokyo airport twice despite there was a strong typhoon in action.

It was only after the 2 tries (near crashes) and hovering over the airport for 2 hours before we are redirected to Osaka and let us get off the plane there.

I am not sure if it was just communication fault or if it's their policy to put the passenger at risk to save on cost. (Hotel, and paying for transport to send us back to Tokyo.)

I personally is tempted to try again for the price, so am not negging it.

However I suggest those whom are already uncomfortable with regular flying to reconsider taking up the deal.

  • $654.63 Sydney to Tokyo return with 20kg a good deal? Or it can get cheaper?
