Samsung 32" Odyssey Neo G7 Curved QLED UHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor $1259 + $19.95 Delivery ($0 C&C/In-Store) @ Harvey Norman

First time posting so go easy!

I have been on the lookout for a 4k 32" gaming monitor and the Neo G7 seems to be well rated and 165Hz will do for a little while I hope.

A discount of $540 seems to be a good deal, I do wonder if newer models are on the way.

Description from rtings.com:

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 is a 32-inch 4k monitor that Samsung released in 2022. It features a curved screen with a 1000R curve to bring the edges more within your field of vision. It sits alongside the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85, and it's the lower-end version with a 165Hz refresh rate instead of 240Hz. It replaces the Samsung Odyssey G7 C32G75T and focuses on console and high-frame-rate gaming because it has HDMI 2.1 bandwidth that allows you to play high-frame-rate games in 4k, as long as your graphics card supports it. It has other gaming features like FreeSync variable refresh rate (VRR) support and G-SYNC compatibility. It uses Samsung's quantum dot technology to display a wide range of colors, and it has Mini LED backlighting that provides greater control over its local dimming compared to other monitors.

Crazy 29.95 delivery to metro Melbourne (3011). Will have to check out the reviews - mini led is appealing

I've been researching 32" monitors so much over the past few days that I feel like I no longer know anything about anything.

I guess this seems to tick all the boxes. Most people seem to say the curve is useless on 32" but not a detractor.

      definitely know that feeling!

been meaning to look into 4k gaming+productivity monitors .. (i.e. not OLED, 4k, 120+hz, 30-38", unsure on other aspects though)

hoping for a bit cheaper than this price but… tempting still…

    • It no doubt ticks all the boxes, but I had a faulty one, so instead tried the 1440p equivalent - which also had a fault.
The selector button and the ability to wake from sleep on source change were an issue with the firmware I had a year back now, I ended up returning them all.

at 32 inches, and 80cm viewing distance, I have to say I could not tell much between 4k and 1440P, so the 1440P versions can be better value and not breaking the GPU bank either.

I'm considering getting the much cheaper AOC CQ32G3SE which is on sale $435 (mothers day discount) in Umart : still only $449 in most places.
To me, that's better value than $1259

      • My 2c. I’m looking to replace a 4year old 1080p ultra wide and I’m mostly basing my decisions on pixels per inch as a lower ppi (81.72 current) is certainly noticing when doing work or gaming. Just feels pixelated. Why I’m looking at the 4K 32inch monitors. Not shitting on your plan, but that AOC has a ppi of 93.24 so just don’t think it’s much of a step up.

Got two last week and ended up returning them. The quality control of those monitors is horrible. One of those I got had really bad dirty screen effect. The grey and yellowish patches were so visible when I had a white background document or webpage opened. Another one I got had backlight issue. It was around 20% darker than the first one. I measured it with i1Display Pro Plus after 1 hour warm-up, and the SDR luminance at 100% setting was 280cd/m2, which is 20cd/m2 lower than the minimum limit of 300cd/m2 on the spec. I also measured another one in the same setup, and the reading was 360cd/m2 at 100% setting, which is very close to the 350 cd/m2 typical on the spec. All auto adjustment function and FALD were turned off during the measurement. Having said that, the performance of the monitor is astonishing if you are lucky to win the panel lottery. The black on neo G7 is almost as dark as an OLED and the colours really pop out. The HDR looks amazing too because of the super high contrast ratio.

from HN? how's the return process? i wonder if jb can match this

      • +2

Yes, I bought them from the local HN store. The return process was pretty smooth and the staff there were really helpful. The other HN stores could be different though since they are all franchises owned by different owners. I showed them the photos of the dirty screen effect and my luminance measurements they offered return or exchange straight away. The manager in the store also told me that those are known issues for this model. If you want to give it a shot, go for somewhere with a good return policy.

        • consumer law for these kinds of issues are good, it's just whether the staff will give you a hard time about it. i know my local jb are good so ill probably ask them.

          • @theadeptus1: If it is a major defect then yes it should be relatively easy to get covered by ACL. Minor defects like a few dead pixels or dirty screen effects could be painful to deal with since ACL does not warrant a refund or replacement for minor defects from my understanding.

  • Not going for an OLED with that sort of budget??

at least $300 more for the alienware QD OLEDs. neo g7 probably can give 85-90% of the HDR performance of those OLEDs, but minus the burn in risk, and a more palatable productivity form factor. i think it's a toss-up based on individual needs

  • Wouldn't the 42C2 for sale around $1200 be a better option ?

    • Just too big for my set up unfortunately…
