Hell what a shocking website Samsung.

  • +13

I'd strongly recommending reading some reviews of Samsung before online via their website: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung

I wish someone had mentioned this to me 2 months ago before I ordered two TVs from them, I'm still waiting for them to be delivered. I've never experienced anything like it before, and I hope no one else has to either.

    • +5

I’ve had Samsung TVs, a fridge, a microwave and they never missed a beat. Would recommend.

      • +1

Same here. TV is 9 years old now and still perfect!
Also, all my family and in-laws have Samsung TVs, many of the TVs 5-8 years old now, others quite new, and they've all been fantastic!

        • I'm still using a 14 year old 52" Samsung TV that I bought on catch back when it was a deal-a-day. No problems at all.

      • +1

Yup, I've had lots of Samsung products before and they've been great. However, ordering from them directly via their website has been a whole different game and not fun in any way at all.

    • +3

I recently bought a phone from Samsung and it took them over a month and a half to deliver it.

Everytime I made an enquiry, they just told me it would be 'soon'.

    • +8

They have the worst customer service I've ever experienced.

    • +1

Ordered phones from their online site. Had major issues every time and when I returned items to them they didn't refund me for over 12 months and many many many many followups later. YMMV but there are too many similar stories.
Do not use their online shop.

I've got some Samsung stuff, it's been great.

But the threads about buying from samsung.com on OZB have been eye opening, and as a result would never buy from them direct.

    • +1

There's a parallel thread on Product Review that tells more of the same: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/samsung-online-sto…

To assist anybody who couldn't be bothered clicking, 1.3 / 5 stars out of 1893 reviews and 1.1 / 5 stars out of 969 reviews. Not exactly an endorsement if you consider that the lowest you can rate on Product Review is 1 star.

Needed a cheap rangehood. So thanks.
I would not recommend ordering anything expensive though from Samsung online.

Induction far greater than Ceramic even if its those Portable tops

    • +3

Agreed. No way I'd be installing a ceramic electric cooktop in this day and age (or gas for that matter). Rather use multiple portable induction stoves from Ikea:
      https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/tillreda-portable-induction-hob…

And at $300 that's expensive, you can get induction Ikea in built stoves for only a few hundred more.

I actually didn't know Samsung made ovens and stove.

      • +3

Yes totally agree with both your comments: induction up to 80% efficiency, ceramic…..errr 20 % maybe and gas….max 38% with a question over its safety wrt fumes (even brand new cookers leak methane it has been found)

        • NG has no methane

If there is a leak then it’s an installation problem

      • +2

We've got a Samsung induction cooktop. It's brilliant.

      • Obviously I can google this, but why is this?

I understand the technology behind it but didnt realize it was that significant.
Are you saying that Id be better off using that $69 Portable induction hob over my gas stove?

        Genuinely curious

        • +4

Gas as a energy source is going up in price - the rate of gas is constantly increasing for starters. Secondly, gas stoves are not efficient as a lot of the heat is wasted into the air - not all of it goes into the saucepan and food. There is also increasing concern about burning gas inside a house in terms of harmful effects. But even without worrying about the harmful effects, it is getting more expensive and not overly efficient. In the past gas was always sold as cheaper to run, but that was simply because it was cheap.

Secondly, gas stoves did work better than traditional electric stoves - ceramic elements. That's because gas was instant, whereas electric you'd have to wait for them to heat up, and then anticipate when you want them lower as they took a while to cool off. They aren't as instant to adjust the temperature as gas was. Similar to gas, there's a lot of wasted energy heating up the stove itself.

Then along comes induction stoves which is the best of both types - has the instant adjustability of gas, but none of the downsides of gas - ie fumes, expensive, etc. Induction stoves are much easier to clean as it's a flat pane of glass, vs the grates of a gas stove. In terms of efficiency, they are much more efficient as they are just heating the saucepan itself. An induction stove simply creates a magnetic field - this is why you need to have induction suitable pots and pans (anything a magnet will stick to the bottom of is suitable).

There are a lot of people now who are not replacing gas appliances with gas but changing over to electric and induction - ie gas heater change to reverse cycle air con. These use 20% of the electricity approx compared to a plug in electric heater so are cheap to run, plus again, no fumes or moisture.

Gas stove to induction. Gas hot water/electric element hot water to heat pump hot water.

For those that don't want to pull out the gas stove just yet, they are 'testing the waters' with induction by buying 2 or so of the Ikea portable ones, and placing them on their current gas stove with a wooden board in between. https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/aptitlig-chopping-board-bamboo-…

Eventually there are no appliances left on gas, and the gas can be disconnected saving another lot of service charges.

For those people with solar panels, it's a no brainer.

          • @placard: Thanks I have tried the portable induction cooktops and they are seriously crap. Comparing them to gas cooking is a bit ridiculous. The built in ones may be better. You can see the problems at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3LklsIcA6w&t=0s its another model but the problem is in all models. they have advertized 2kw and I think they get heated and dont even draw 1k after that. the heating element and area is small and hence it is even more difficult to cook anything other then boiling water. If you have ikea induction you can check the heating area and please let us know

            • @onegpt: The built in ones of a reasonable brand are much better from what I've heard. Bigger induction areas and also don't cycle on/off full power to achieve a lower temp, but just maintain lower power constantly.

Some people prefer to install built in ones that only have 3 burners rather than 4, as one burner can be a lot larger and it's rare to use all 4 anyway.

            • @onegpt: Being a single person in a small apartment, there are crap portable ones especially in the early days just a few years back, I bought a $150 one and it failed in a 3yrs so then needing one urgently i got this for $69
              https://www.thewarehouse.co.nz/p/living-co-induction-cooker/…

for the price it may seem crap, but the build is great and it works pretty well, I can't even use it at max most of my cooking is done in the 200-1000w range going on 4yrs strong. Mine's slightly uneven but for the price i've adapted and gotten better cookware to mitigate it as much as possible.

Just make sure you have decently good cookware thats 5ply base at least if its not 5ply all round, and having some cast iron cookware is handy too
Oh and don't use nonstick cookware, you'll ruin it very easily unless you stay at the lowest power. Switching from single ply to 5ply base was a huge improvement in cooking.

Using a portable gas in such a small space without adequate venting would have been terrible for fumes and stuff while also increased costs

Now obviously if you own a house getting a proper induction cooktop installed rather than using portables is better, but one thing to note is some will require separate 3 phase line so you may need to factor in additional costs for installation (probably get a spark to comeby and give a free quote on the minimum costs, use the install documents from the cooktops your considering for them to see what requirements are needed).

But if you got a really good gas stove already its up you, because you have to look at the current pos and cons efficiency, cookware, health, install costs etc
Also adapting your cooking style first few months you'll have ups and downs as you learn how t works and how it cooks your food just like if you were/had to transition from ceramic/element to gas

For Asian cooking you can get flat bottom woks or even induction machines built around the curve
              https://www.amazon.com/Nuwave-Induction-Controls-Wattages-Au…

          • @placard: No self respecting asian would give up his gas stove for and induction one. Aiyah!

            • @Tiggrrrrr: I don't see why? There's flat bottomed woks now that suit induction and induction stoves can get stupid hot very quick.

Many gas inside stoves have pathetic heat output anyway. Their 'wok' burners are not high output in any case. You need to get those outdoor wok style high output ones that connect to gas bottles to get proper hot.

    • induction now available: 60cm Induction Cooktop $499.50

      • Isn't the cooking zone too small? It seems most induction cooktops have similar size.
I'm looking into replacing the gas one with induction and trying to figure out how does it work with larger pots or pans.

60cm rangehood OOS - shame was waiting for ages for a good deal

  • +1

been waiting for a dryer for 3months.

  • +1

    free delivery that never arrives

  • but how do i know if the rangehood will fit into my current space?

    • Measure it? I would think that the range hood space are standardised across most kitchen builds. I measured mine and it was exactly 60cm with the same depth.

      • Whats the easiest way to remove an old one? Or better to find someone to install it?

        • Should be 2-4 screws. Hardest part is making a hole in your cabinet for the power cable.

          • @ryzza22: Old one has all the power cables and stuff, its more worrying about cable and size compatibility.

  • +1

Is it weird the maker of a $3000 phone can also fit out my entire kitchen for under 1000?

  • It is not that Samsung products are bad, people are complaining about their experience and lack of basic customer service and professionalism, I have spent tens of thousands of dollars with Samsung over the years and have recommended their products to others. However like many others it had been an ok experience until I placed an order for a phone and some accessories back in February, it has been an absolute nightmare and still no resolution as to either a refund or delivering the phone. I have spent countless hours on the phone and spoken to supervisors and escalations but still nothing.

I have lodged a transaction dispute and it takes a long time because it is close to $2k and coles credit card won't issue a credit until they have got the money back. In the meantime I have also lodged a complaint with accc, and I urge anyone who is having this issue to lodge a complaint, it might force accc to look into it.

Mobile phones is a different department to kitchen appliances.

      • Do you think so? Given how clueless Samsung customer service is, I highly doubt that they are different, they go to the same call centre in the Philippines.
Also check Samsung's social media pages, people have issues with all their products and if isn't limited to phones.

    • Ordered a phone from samsung s23U deal got it in 5 days 🤷‍♂️, I know they’re shit lately with cancellations & deliveries, but at these prices think it’s worth a punt, worst case wait for a refund, best case cheap upgrade for those on a budget

  • Samsung 70L Dual Fan Forced Catalytic Oven

    It’s actually $670? Not $375 at Bunnings
