I've loved mine. Paid a little bit less than this price, but even at $125 its worth it.

    • Yeah mine had also been good. However now looking for something bigger cause sometimes it wont fit the bigger cuts

  • +3

    Is the vortex instant?

    • +4

words are just things people say

      • ACCC would disagree.

        • +2

Just to be clear, I hate the name of this thing and wanted to pile on your comment

          • +2

@Jerruh: Saw a pile starting and joined in

            • +2

              @16k-zx81: Jumping into the pile
              They Terk Err Jerbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • It is called puffery, it is legal. You would have to be a retard to think it will cook instantly.

    • +4

      That’s really a different thing.

The beauty of an air fryer is the quick heat up, cook and clean, while your model is great it’s starting to veer a little to a traditional oven,

      • I've got this and a kmart 5l. The 5l is probably 20% quicker but that's where its advantage stops. The 10l is much easier to clean with removable trays and door. The trays let you cook multiple items at different temps using the upper and lower shelves and can act as a windbreak to stop toppings being blown off!

        • +1

But that's like saying a conventional oven does a much better job cooking a whole chook than an air fryer. They're still different devices. That 10L is just a mini oven with "Air Fryer" slapped on it.

          • @Munki: Silly question. So the is the 10l the same just a few minutes slower?

        • Kmart one, is it the dual drawer 9 litre for $129?

          https://www.kmart.com.au/product/9l-twin-air-fryer-43096657/

Seems highly rated from the reviews and can cook two different foods with different settings at the same time.
I am about to pull the pin but now looking at this vortex.

        • The trays let you cook multiple items at different temps using the upper and lower shelves

It's a box with a fan in it.
You can't have different temperatures for different shelves. That's not how ovens work

          • +2

@spaceflight: The upper shelf is closer to the heating element and is significantly hotter than the lower shelf even after preheating.
            eg
Chips up top, fish in foil below = perfect crispy chips and moist delicate perfect fish.
            using the same time
Fish up top, chips below = overcooked fish and undercooked chips.

    • Why is that? Reviews seem much more mixed on that one

    • Nope, this is a rotisserie oven branded as an air fryer, it's not eh same thing and won't work the same way. It also has way less effective cooking space in it.

      • -1

Its an air fryer with a removable rotisserie with heaps of usable space as food can be stacked over 3 levels instead of just dumped on the bottom. I used the rotisserie once in 12 months. You shouldn't offer absolute opinions about products you know nothing about.

        • +1

Looks like a mini oven to me.

          • @cookie2: That is exactly what an air fryer is, a fan-forced mini oven. Of course the efficiency, easiness of usage, cleaning, etc, will vary, so better check reviews of individual products.

        • Food can be stacked over 3 levels and more of it can be stacked over those levels in OP's actual AirFryer though.

Sounds like you are the one talking nonsense to me.

  • This or wait for the clear cook version to come under $200 again? Does anyone know if the filters on that need to be bought or do you just wash them?

Seems the only difference is the viewing window, or our filter and that it’s more quiet?

    • +1

Clear cook doesn't seem worth it.

Vortex Plus 5.7l Air Fryer $125

Did you find this on Whirlpool ?

  • Is this better than Philips

    • +1

      No.

      • +2

The Phillips can be three times the price or more.

I have used both and the Phillips cooks well no question but it is way over engineered in the basket/draw area but the control centre buttons and arrangement is an absolute abomination compared to the clean controls of the Instant.

I would rather the instant by far and pocket a few hundred dollars.

        • Its been $180 just last month. Also he asked if this or Philips was better, I just answered.

        • +1

the control centre buttons and arrangement is an absolute abomination compared to the clean controls of the Instant

I don't know which airfryer are you talking about, but I don't know how you could get cleaner than the Premium XXL, and it looks like basically the same setup as this Instant…

      • is the philips as easy to clean?

        • +1

Depends which. The mesh one is horrible, the others are just as easy.

          • @Tuttorix: I had the mesh one. Basically uncleanable, unless you use a dish washer

            • @DontNeedThis: Tell me about it man, I ended up replacing mine altogether once it had too much "patina". But if someone buys it brand new, just get those silicon or baking paper inserts with holes at the bottom and are cup shaped. You'll never have our problem ever again.

        • No, not even close.

        • The Philips with the mesh and the "starfish" base basket is a nightmare to clean and eventually "seasoned" itself a new non-stick layer of grease like an iron skillet.
I particularly hated the protruding metal tab near the base of the basket that traps crumbs and is constantly in the way when cleaning!

We had to use the Philips outdoor as it started to produce smoke when cooking from all the built up grease!

The Instant Vortex, in comparison, is a dream to clean and operate. As soon as we got the Vortex, the Philips went to landfill!

  • can you make pizza on these af ?

    • +6

      lets call it toast

    • If the pizza is small enough… sure? I don't know why you would cook pizza in an air fryer though. The toppings would fly everywhere and would likely just end up being a huge mess.

      • ok.. i thought these can go to very high heat,, so i can put my own pizza dough,

        • +2

          Max temp is 205.

      • I've found our Philips great to make a quick mini pizza for my kid with these for lunch. But they are not fussy on the quality. It would not fit a decent sized pizza anyway and be a pain to get out of the basket even if it did cook it well.

    • Yeah, but no different to cooking a small pizza in an oven set to 205c.

  • Baking paper underneath yay or nay?

    • +1

      Yay. For cleaning alone

      • +1

Does that affect the cooking though? I feel it blocks the airflow getting underneath

Still messy unless I go OTT with baking paper

        • +5

Sorry I should explain. Put paper down and then the internal rack on top and then food on top of that. It makes cleaning easier as you can pull the paper out with all the melted cheese and stuff on it, rather than clean the whole basket.

    • +1

I recommend using this over standard baking paper.

  • ok.. i thought these can go to very high heat,, so i can put my own pizza dough,

    • Caps out at 205 C, and the heat come only from the top.

Maybe a tiny pizza stone would improve results, but this can't even toast bread well.

    • +1

Just buy a pizza oven if it's within your budget. If not, get a pizza steel for your oven. If even that's too costly, pizza stone.

  • +1

Bought this last night, I was too tired to post this deal on OZb.
There is a "newer" model which has a clear view compartment but it's considerably more expensive.

  • Bought one from last time this (and the smaller one) was on sale. Great unit, have used it multiple times since. Easy to clean with the non stick surface.

Made Crispy Pork Belly - air fryer recipe and it came out a beaut.

    • Haha….. The exact same results here and even with the Pork Belly strips too mmmmm

  • +1

Bought this two days ago for $159. Damn. Amazon does not offer price difference. Hurts as a true blue/red/orange/yellow Ozbargainer. * Cant return it as I already used it this morning. lol.

    • bought mine from target a few days ago for that price lol

    • +4
      1. Buy another unit.
      2. Once new unit is delivered, open a return for the first unit

Annoying I know but it is the ozbargainer way

      • If you return things that are not in a re-saleable condition for Amazon you may get flagged and potentially banned + blacklisted from ordering. The algorithm will pick up on customers who they are losing money on and cease doing business with them. Not worth the risk for $30

        • +1

you'd just send back the new one and say it was the old (unless they track serial numbers for air-friers?)

          • -1

@Lonewolf1983: Yeah, well the key word is re-saleable condition. You can try and fool them and if it works it works, but if they realise you returned a second hand product as new you are playing a risky game.

Also, it might be slightly suspicious to buy 2 of the exact same product and return one?

            • +9

@rekke: But it's not secondhand. You're returning the brand new unopened product they sent you. I have done this previously and it hasn't been a problem.

            • @rekke: It will be the new one that's returned.

              • @staz: Okay, I misread the suggestion. Bare in mind you are still costing Amazon by doing this as the shipping will likely cost them money both ways. Just a heads up to the fact Amazon will catch on if enough costs to them have been incurred

                • +8

@rekke: Hand in your ozb badge

        • One of the reasons I buy groceries from Amazon. No worries about being blacklisted for returns if you have a large turnover.

    • Buy a new one and return it with the old receipt. Amazon doesn't care, even if you send an empty box back.

  • Anyone know if this qualifies for 10% cashback as a 'kitchen' item in the Cashrewards deal?

    • Well it should as it is listed under Kitchen & Dining.

      • If that is the case, this would be an exceptional deal…

        $269 RRP discounted to $125
        - 10% Cashrewards cashback
        - $5 bonus cashback Cashrewards
        - Paid with 6.6% discounted Prezzee gift card

        = $99

        • +3

Instructions not clear. Paid using gift cards purchased from ozbargain classifieds and now I'm $115 out of pocket.

      • Its only got 2.8% cb

        • Where is that? The Amazon list says 10% for Kitchen.

          • +1

@Flyerone: This air fryer is listed under hone category which is inly 2.8% from cashrewards

        • +1

Can confirm it tracked as 10%

Just happened to cop one last night to replace my aging Philips XXL. Somehow this has a bigger basket despite the stated sizes are 5.7L (Instant) vs 7.2L (Philips). I measured the philips basket at 23cm x 22.5cm x 9cm for 4657cc, and the Instant basket is said to be 24cm x 24cm x 8.5cm for 4896cc based on what i can find online.

  • What do people think, worth an extra $40 for the Instant Pot Duo Crisp?

    • I have been looking at this one but 10L one sold for same price last month

      • Do you think the 8L will drop that low again? I'm contemplating jumping on at the current price, feels like that last low price was potentially an aberration

    • +1

The IP duo crisp isn't as good an air fryer as the Vortex - people say it's just ok, and really just used for making pressure cooked things have a bit of colour.

That being said, pressure cookers are pretty amazing in their own right

    • I got one but haven't used the air fry feature yet. It's seems like a pain to clean.

    • +1

I am currently considering buying one of these or the phillips when on sale to fill the role of air fryer in our household.
I purchased a Duo Crisp last year and we have loved it, especially the pressure cooking and slow cooking features.
It is a great airfryer too, however I find the vertical basket just a little too restrictive especially if you want to do a parma and chips situation, you really need to do the items seperately to have them cook properly.

Have yet to have a batch of chips cook properly in it as the basket space just isn't quite generous enough to give surface area for a clean cook.
Potato gems on the other hand work great, and hash browns turn out well too aside from only being able to fit 4 at a time (who only eats 4 hash browns??)

Considering I only paid about $100 for the duo crisp I am thinking I'll pull the trigger on one of these for all the air frying. The crisp lid is massive and loud anyway.

  • +1

Thanks, OP have grabbed one to replace a crappy old manual model that was too small

    • +1

I think that the person responsible for the Photoshopping has no idea about scale. Where exactly does the rest of that chicken fit?

I also think that the clear window would be useless after a few months or look horrible if not well maintained.
