Fujicell Battery Charger / Portable Charger $9.99 at Dick Smith (Pick Up / Click + Collect Only)

100

More expensive than your ~$1 Meritline chargers, not as smart as your $30+ Smart chargers, but this is pretty good value for the price I reckon. It's been $23 and $18 in the last month or so. The most notable feature is it acts as a portable back up charger for any iDevice / device that charges via USB as long as you've got some batteries charged up, so if you missed out on the portable Energizer charger recently (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/76072) here is a good (albeit a bit bulkier) alternative for that point alone.

And yes, there does seem to be stock around (I searched most major postcodes and there wasn't any area with none that I could see, and there's 5 stores within 15kms of where I live that report as being in stock).

Features:

  • 6-level charge protection
  • Timer control protection (6.5 hours)
  • Reverse polarity protection
  • Over current and short circuit protection/defective and non-rechargeable battery detection
  • Low current leakage minimises loss of capacity and maintains charging of battery by controlling current leakage
  • Trickle charge to maintain battery charge
  • Pulse and series charging technology for fast and efficient charging
  • Powered by AC outlet
  • LED charging indicators
  • Charges up to 4xAA or 4xAAA NiMH or Ni-Cd Batteries
  • Also portable back up charger for Mobile phones, PDA's, MP3, some Digital cameras and iPods
  • Included accessories: USB cable, AC adaptor and selected connectors for Blackberry, Nokia, iPhone and Motorola mobile phones

  • cool…so eneloops will charge in this fine?

    • +1

I don't see why not, seems to have some of the features of the smart chargers e.g. charge protection / trickle charge etc. Happy to be proven wrong though :)

Incidentally I just noticed Amazon are selling the La Crosse BC-700 charger for about the same price as it was in March again - http://camelcamelcamel.com/La-Crosse-Technology-Battery-Char…, which was a popular deal here at the time http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/65596, so that's an option too :)

      • I'm confused.
so does this stop charging when the battery is full? or does it only stop after a certain time.
        thanks.

        • From the instructions: "When the batteries are fully charged, the charger will automatically switch to a minimum maintenance charge if the batteries are not immediately removed from the unit."

    • +1

Yep they work fine with eneloops I've been using this charger for about two years with no problems.

  • Can't seem to find info if these charge odd numbers of batteries? Can anyone who owns one enlighten?

    • +1

from memory, these charges 2 or 4 batteries at once

      • that's no good then…… if one batt is dying, it will help the 2nd one to die faster

      • +1

Yep - the instructions confirm 2 or 4 of a kind only. Confusingly, the instructions also say "Do not mix cell sizes, technologies or capacities in the charger", but one of ticked 'OK' illustrations shows 2x AA and 2x AAA in the charger at the same time.

  • Does anyone know if Eneloops are fine to take as carry on for international travel?

    • Eneloops are Ni-MH so i thought lithium was the one with issues no ?
