New to PlayStation Advice on Bargains Needed

Hey all, I've been on Xbox for the last 5 years and I've got my head right around Aussie Bargains for that ecosystem.

Just after some general advice around getting the best bargains in Australia for PlayStation.

Specifically, what's the best way to stock up on PS Plus? How often are games put on digital sale and what's the best way to keep track of that? Advice on wireless headphones and extra SSD?

Thanks.

  • Download the PS mobile app and Wishlist/heart the games you want to be notified about sales for.

SSD - the SN850 was recommended by Mark Cerny a while back and that’s the one I got.

Wireless headphones - I have the Steelseries arctis nova pro wireless and they are great.

I don't know if this link works but also keep in mind this thing is finishing soon. Where there's a whole heap of free older games if you have PS plus: https://store.playstation.com/en-au/category/8d2a9d0b-bfa2-4…

  • Türkiye account
Bit of a pain to setup but worth it.
Deluxe subscription is 460 TL vs 154.96 AUD

  • Unless you are simultaneously playing many games or have unreliable/slow internet you don't need extra storage.

Expanding the storage of the PS5 is outside my budget, but seriously I've never had an issue.

I used to use an external USB drive to store games to save me downloading them again, but you have to copy them back to the main drive to play them (for PS5 games) and you can't use the system for anything else whilst you do that, because apparently Sony haven't discovered multitasking. Or you could just re-download them, which is what I do now. Or better yet, actually finish a game and delete it… I know, that's too radical a concept.

The controller has a headphone socket, so I have no need for a wireless headphone, just a basic wired one is enough if you want to save money.

I'm fitting maybe 5-6 games at a time on the internal storage. I may be regularly playing 2, with another being a multiplayer. Which leaves maybe 1-2 on the to-play list. It's a pain in the arse to move. Even with a fast external SATA SSD, transfers are still 10min+ each way. I haven't bought an internal drive for the PS5, but I will likely need to. Jedi Survivor is 150GB and I can only see this going up with new games.

        • Um, I'm not the OP.

  • For PS+ Black Friday or similar offering a 20%-25% discount along with discounted gift cards would be best way to stack onto an Aussie PS account.

I did this last year and stacked ps+ when it was 25% off at eb games using 15% ultimate him cards.

The trick if you were interested in extra/deluxe tier was to stack up as much ps+ essential as you could and then upgrade as there was a cap for how much it would charge you to upgrade to the deluxe tier, $135 - $185 can't remember exactly.

The maximun you could stack was 15 years of ps+ I believe, (could be mistaken) so upgrading to the deluxe tier on an account that had anywhere from 3 years to 15 years of ps+ stacked would only cost $135 or $185, due to the pricing cap.

Now it is cheaper to go with a Turkey account but for the workaround with payment methods and being at the mercy of sony shutting down that loophole, I don’t know if the savings are worth it for me. For a little bit more, the peace of mind could be worth it. All ps+ games you claim are tied to that account so if you lose access to a ps+ account not being able to make a payment, there goes that.

Hope this made sense and helps in any way, if not, that's cool too, have a good day :)
