    Oz bargain

I think it’s more like “Oz”, like the Wizard of Oz, and then “Bargain”, like “OzBargain”

      • +3

Woah that just blew my mind. English strikes again.

      • +4

It could be Wizard of O-zuh, or Wizard of O-zee 🤔

        • yeah maybe they sang the song incorrectly.

    • In Germany it’s pronounced Oz-Berghain.

  • Ooosssh-baarbeque-inn

    Moron

  • +52

wtf? it's pronounced exactly the way it's spelt. There is no ambiguity to it whatsoever!

    • +1

Some people do actually pronounce it as
      "Ozzie Bargain"

  • zero- snore-ba-aaaarrrggghhhh- ga-in

  • +17

Like this: Ohz-Baar-ghin * burps beer*

  • +5

    "Ohhs-Bargain"

  • +16

Saying it either of those ways really should be a ban able offence.

  • If you asked my boss its "O-zee-bargain"

If you ask me, its "Oz Bargain"

  • Ohs-bar-jain.

  • +2

    Osama-Baa-Bar-Grin

  • Wanna grab a bargain? Go to Aus Bargain!

  • +7

Oz (as in Wizard of) Bargain.

    • This is the way

    • +2

      Wizard of Bargain
Has a nice ring to it

  • Osssss-bah-geeeen.

  • Ohh-zed bargain

  • +12

So then, "oz " is pronounced as ‘Oz’, and "bargain’ is pronounced ‘bargain’ And that concludes our intensive three-week course.

    • +2

Hey, wait man. Who gets to be a paid mod?

      • +2

Oh, right, that. Well, I've been monitoring your progress closely. But this gentleman here clearly stands out above the rest.

  • +3

If you ask my Asian parents, it's aw-see-bar-gun

  • OZ… bahhh gaaaiin

  • +2

If you can pronounce Azerbaijan, you can pronounce OzBargain:

    Oh - Zee - Bar - Zhaan

  • +1

    Muzeeb

  • Hmm it would depend on your accent

  • Or Zee Bar gun.

  • OP - which of the ways are you pronouncing it?

    • +3

Who cares, both of the first options are wrong… both OP and their friend should be ashamed.

  • +2

For the second option, where are you getting the E sound? Don't tell me you're pronouncing the letter Z like a Seppo!
(Even if you are American, that would make no sense, since it's not capitalised.)

  • Uuntz de berghain

  • Bazza

  • +4

What in the ever loving hell OP.

    Oz = Aus = Australia.

Why in the hell would you pronounce the first two letters as some kind of initialism?
    Just…. WHAT?

    • +1

It has actually taken me by surprise that it'd be pronounced any other way than oz [aus] bargain.

Not even close to the GIF pronunciation debate.

      • +3

I am completely mindblown OP took the time to lay out two different impossible variants.

    • 'Oz' is presented in the OzBargain logo in the style of a tile from the periodic table of elements.

So in much the same was you wouldn't say "COO" for Copper (Cu), "CUL" for Chlorine (Cl) or "FEE" for Iron (Fe) it's patently obvious that Oz would be pronounced as the component vowel (OH) and consonant (ZEE). EVERYBODY knows this.

'Aus', on the other hand, is an abbreviation of Australia and is pronounced identically to the first syllable of the original word.

      ===

EDIT: For the avoidance of all doubt - the above is tongue-in-cheek.

  • +2

TIL people don't know how to pronounce Oz. Are people saying The Wizard of Auzzie?

    • +2

Apparently, the correct pronunciation is “The Wizard of Oh Zee” or “The Wizard of Oh Zuh”

      • For 10+ years I've had people in voice chats, on stage at events etc refer to me a "Oh Zed D J" or "Oh Zee D J".

  • +1

Haha didn't even realise this was a question needing to be asked.
Always have pronounced ir Oz bargain like in most comments above.

  • So oz means straya, and bargain means bargain …and that concludes our intensive three week course on how to pronounce ozbargain

  • Oh-Zed-Barge-Ahn

  • +1

"Oz" is the "cool" way for saying Aus, which is short for ozzie/Aussie, which is short for Australian. So you pronounce Ozbargain the same as Aus bargain.

Or maybe I'm wrong and it a actually Ounce-Bargain.

    • +1

      Ounce bargain for the OzBikies

  • +1

    Seriously?

  • -1

    Ozzie Bargain

  • He must be a fan of that talk show host, Dr Ozzee.

  • Ozzzzzz Baaahhhh gan

    Struth

  • Oh-zed-b-ARGH!-en

  • You can't be serious.

This question is a broden on stupidity.

  • Some languages struggle with pronouncing words where some of the syllables end and then start on a consonant, so they add an extra vowel to compensate. That's why they probably pronounce it as "Oz-uh-Bargain"

    It's Oz-Bargain.

  • +2

If you're trying to sound classy, Aubergine

  • I pronounce it Ozbar-Gain.

  • +2

This has to be a troll post, surely?

  • -1

    No not trolling.

    To me it was
    * Aus -> Oz (like ward of Oz)
But the 2 of them were like it's always been
    * Aussie Aussie -> O-zee-bargain

couldn't figure a way to clarify so put "zuh" in the option. Obviously i am not making the uh sound when pronouncing it

When did we start using Zee instead of Zed i wondered…
And thanks for proving i was right.. in a way..

    • +1

And thanks for proving i was right.. in a way..

Wtf which thread are you reading???

    • Hahaha - too funny…
Maybe you need an OzBargain "citizenship" test?
You could have a multiple choice question as part of the signup process for OzBargain and people won't be able to join unless they know how to pronounce it ;-)
