      It's $79…

      • +42

If it don't have 4k display, wireless charging, 65watt fast charging. Dual sim, 500 mega pickles camera all for $79. Why bother?

Waiting for someone to say apple would be a better option as well

          • +14

@shxhshzhz: Spend a bit more & get an Apple. It's a better option.

          • +3

@shxhshzhz: Hold out to the iPhone 15 with OLED, dynamic island and a fast processor. They are also more than likely getting USB-C.

            These < $100 supermarket phones won't stand a chance once it's released.

        • It has 490 mp Camara..
Sorry just missed by 10 mp

    • Are there other $79 phones out there that have everything this phone has as well as excluding/including all of that?

Happy to go look for myself.. if it's a realistic list of features to be shopping for in this price range.

    • -3

I know you are getting downvoted to oblivion but i agree with you. The comments on gsmarena link posted below say what i would expect, which is that the phone is unusably slow and laden with problems. Sure, it's cheaper than others but the thing is, it's not much good if it's so slow it in effect doesnt work. For people wanting something cheap, unlocked and good performance i'd recommend getting a cheap Redmi from aliexpress - u will have to wait 2-3 weeks for delivery but Xiaomi make quality phones and the price and performance balance is much, much better than something like this.

      • -2

I dont think they realise with esim you can have unlimited numbers on your phone, better than physical dual sim.

I have 10 esims currently, 2 of them are international numbers. I just switch between them when i need

        • Boost (via Cashrewards) doesn't have esim

        • +2

Sure, but the vast majority of people don’t need 2 numbers let alone 10.

      • Can you put up a link to a good Redmi?

Must have all network band support & NFC.

        $99 max, cheers.

        • +1

hope it has esim included in the price

          • @shxhshzhz: Not fussed about esim. For a friend who hasn't changed provider or plan in years. They are still rocking a Huawei y5

            • @tunzafun001: wow the locked supermarket phone of the previous decade is still running amazing

        • -2

I'll just reiterate what i said in my first post (maybe you missed it); the price v performance point is to me what's important. This is a cheap price but the performance is SO slow that most old phones are actually better. Yes, you can get a Redmi 7 which outperforms this easily at the same price. BUT that's not what im recommending; im saying the better price v performance prospect is something like a Redmi 10C, spend a little more ($150) or so and u get unlocked, all the network bands supported, NFC yes and benchmarks 2.5 times faster than this phone.

So comparing price v performance, sorry this is not a bargain. Just because something is cheap, doesn't mean it's a bargain.

          • @Iggemo: So you would recommend the Redmi 10c for a budget phone?

          • @Iggemo: Sounds fine to me if you only use for calls and texts.

            Which plenty of people do.

            • @jackspratt: but then why even spend 80 on this? if that's all you need there are even cheaper options.

    • +8

      microSD!
      3.5 mm jack!!
      FM radio!!!
You won't find any of that on a Samsung flagship

      • -2

I have FM radio on my old Note 9 lol
        Never used it

        • So you dont use it. Therefore nobody else needs it?

      • Yeah but does it have snakes?

      • FM radio as in an app? Or actual hardware tuner?

        • +2

Hardware tuner. I remember having a phone with a built in FM radio at some point as well - you needed to connect earphones for the antenna.

Can you make it run Android “Go” version? Cos that is super efficient and makes even the slowest phones usable. I had a $39 ZTE blade A3 2019 and that was surprisingly responsive and usable, running android go. Very refreshing to just have barebones install too, none of the idiotic bloatware.

  • assume single sim?

    • Single SIM (Nano-SIM) or Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual stand-by)

      • How can it be single or dual? It's just luck of the draw when purchasing it?

  • +1

I have this and it’s ok for the money.

    • Do you use any apps or watch videos?

      • +3

A few, and it’s alright, not the fastest but also better than some phones.
You won’t be unhappy with it, but you won’t be pleased either.
        Solid phone for $79

        • +1

Do you use it to check Ozbargain?

        • +1

Thanks. I've only had Snapdragon phones which are a lot faster. $79 is a bargain for this phone

  • How long is support from Nokia for this phone?

    • Guaranteed two years from the launch date of phone at least, which may be approaching.

It looks like it’s got Android 13 apparently.. so that’s something

      • So based on GSM Arena, this was released 2021, May 17… so this will probably not be supported in less than 2 weeks.

Might be why it's low priced.

specs seem decent you should post it

    • What does that mean by locked to Telstra network?
If I’m using mate as the provider , which is using Telstra network, would it work?

  • +1

G20 is supported by Nokia until 1 July 2024

    https://endoflife.date/nokia

This phone is great for light users

    • Just note that the 2024 date is security updates. They have committed to 2 major releases and given it shipped with Android 11, that may mean you won’t see Android 14 unless Nokia goes above and beyond.

  • Would it be easy to unlock the network?

    • +1

      Comments here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/756524

Can be unlocked free by flashing another ROM

      • -5

What does that mean, thread is useless

      • +2

Forget that flash, it is impossible. I bought this G20 and tried so many different SIM unlock ways but still can't get it unlocked.

  • +2

Nice deal….good back phone if u own a flagship already

  • any1 know if much difference in cpu horsepower between this model and the 2.3? https://www.gsmarena.com/nokia_2_3-9988.php

    both say cortex A53

    My 2.3 is frustratingly slow

    • +1

It'll likely be a little faster than your Nokia 2.3, but it's no rocket ship.

      https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/mediatek-helio-g35-vs-…

      • 31% faster in AnTuTu 9
      • 8% faster in GeekBench 5 single-core, 80% faster in GeekBench 5 multi-core (together with twice the RAM—4GB vs 2GB—this means multitasking should be snappier.

Gaming? Fuggedaboutit! This is a phone for basic calls/texts/emails/web browsing. If you want to use social media like FB, try the Lite versions of their apps. Not sure if Instagram/TikTok etc. have one, though.

Does any know what OP is talking about when he says can be unlocked by flashing ROM?
Never done that before so is there a step by step guid on how to do it for this phone

    • +2

I believe this is the global ROM for this device and the instructions to flash it:

      https://www.androidgreek.com/download-and-install-nokia-g20-…

Disclaimer: I don't have this phone, so never tried it.

      • I don't even think the blog poster tried this one.
The ROM is going to an OTA update (c40f273650a9d6043f88e33be9e862939f62ae12) which does not contain the scatter file.
Trying to flash this OTA via sideload results in an error

Update package is older than the current build […] downgrade not allowed

(Note that the G20 phone I have is on the SW out of the box, not a single update applied.)

The SP flashtool needs a scatter file. I tried that, but the SP flash tool does not detect the phone to start downloading.
Drivers however are correctly installed to my knowledge (because both adb and fastboot work).

    Hot Tip

Create new account, select click and collect and use promo code 'CLICK10' to get $10 off. This code only works for $100 or over order so add $21 worth of stuff.

    • Booze..should be 20% off.

  • +1

Does the dual sim work after installing the global rom?

  • Decent for basic android games?

  • would this work with boost mobile while locked to Telstra?

    • +1

      Not working with Boost SIM

      • Hmmm..thats new..normally all Telstra spin offs work.

  • G35 SOC antutu 115,000 = CRAP SLOW LAGGY.
But great price for this phone

  • "Locked to a Telstra Network" doesn't mean restricted to certain plans does it?

    • Nope. Just chuck a prepaid SIM in.

  • +1

    Ordered online - cancelled.
    Ordered delivery - cancelled.

    YMMV.

    • I assume this means your closest store doesn't have stock. I think both Coles and Woolworths deliver from your nearest store.

      • I've been to 4 Coles in my area, Brosef.

  • NFC -Yes (market/region dependent). can we check it before buying?

  • For those interested in unlocking or flashing global ROM:
I tried to flash stock rom on this, but haven't found a way yet.

Can connect fine with adb and fastboot (when in fastboot mode, meaning I can see the device with devices -l).
Fastboot only shows "FASTBOOT mode…" at the bottom left of the screen, there's nothing else when in fastboot mode.)

SP Flash tool does not connect to nor detect the phone.
HMD Device kit sees the phone but throws an error "Fail to get repair permission".
MTK app or manually trying to enter MTK engineering mode (with *#*#3646633#*#*) does not work.

Also if there are any people wondering, just confirming Boost / ALDI and likely other Telstra MVNO's do not work with this phone.
