Bro NO MEMORY, NO SSD and NO WINDOWS!!! this is not a deal!!

    • +8

This is actually a pretty good deal.

      • +11

i understand battery is good and screen but by the time you buy SSD, RAM and Windows…… i do not see a deal anymore…. PLUS you have the old generation i7 which is much slower than say the 12th …..and we are at the 13th lol! so 2 generations old CPU! no thanks

        • +12

Can you direct me to a well priced current i7 generation laptop with a similar gpu and screen?

        • +8

The mobile 11th gen CPUs moved to 10nm while the desktop stayed at 14nm so I don't think the performance difference between 11th gen and 12th gen is as stark in the mobile CPUs

          • +3

@evocable: Correct, and 12th gen CPUs benefit from high wattages, which is not viable in a laptop

        • +6

Spoken like someone that has zero clue about hardware.

You can't magically just judge CPU performance by counting from 11 to 13, it doesn't work like that.

The fact that you think you have to PAY for windows is such a glaring red flag that I can't believe 9 other clueless people upvoted you.

          This is 100% a decent deal hardware-wise.

            • +5

              @MarioBros:

              1. I don't trust you one iota, you're clueless.
              2. You come across like an absolute, complete, and utter lunatic.
              • -4

@Grazz989: I didn't offend you. But I'll take it no problems. Because you know everything and you are a genius I'm very happy for you. I still make money selling my laptops and phones after using them though….. I don't know about you….. I don't think you can ever make a single dollar if you buy these sort of "deals"…. You really must be a genius.. … Good on you !

                • +3

@MarioBros: So are you going to let me know of a i7 12/13 gen laptop for around the same price??

                  • -6

@BlitzR: Check the Bing Lee Acer Go 14. Impressive!!! ;) It's not the same price but much better specs and nothing to buy on top !!! ;) Thank me later

                    • +2

@MarioBros: That doesn't even have dedicated graphics, you blithering imbecile. This has a RTX 3060 in it ffs.

                      • -5

@Grazz989: What's wrong with you brother? You look very frustrated with life…. He asked for a i7 12 or 13th…. He didn't ask for a gaming laptop. Did he? And still…. I have a laptop with i7 1260P no problems to play my game with a QHD external monitor. Is it really necessary for you to abuse others? Tell me

                        • +2

@MarioBros: Yes, yes he did. Right here:

'Similar GPU' - i.e. similar to an RTX 3060 … A gaming GPU, if I have to spell it out for you.

Don't even try to pretend that me calling you out for being the living definition of the dunning-kruger effect is any sort of problem with me, mate - I'm just fine. Terribly weak attempt at deflection.

                          • -4

@Grazz989: Ok I didn't notice. I'm new on commenting on here so I don't yet know how it really works well. But for you…. I have no words. I don't know what to think of you ….. I don't think you are fine if you need to insult good, honest and genuine people trying to help. Have a good Sunday

                            • +1

@MarioBros: You call it 'insults', I call it warning everyone that your advice, backed up by nothing but dishonest bragging, is harmful to their interests. Seeing as how you haven't acted in the manner of a 'good, honest and genuine person trying to help' in the first place, I think I can rest easy.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, mate.

                                • +2

@MarioBros: Try not to be so confident about your advice on gaming laptop deals when you don't know how GPUs work

                                  • +1

@Asterpin: he has no clue of how GPU or CPUs work. I feel sorry for any family/friends how get advice from him regarding IT hardware. You can see from the amount of negs he has on his comments, that ppl thing he talks utter BS.

                                  • -3

@Asterpin: Yeah my advices where more about of general purposes/ value then gaming laptop GPU specific machines

                                    • @MarioBros: Uhuh. Go on, just keep digging that hole deeper mate, I'm sure that displaying more raw incompetence and delusion will pay off eventually.

Can anyone recommend the best way for me to get the complete laptop then? Should I just chat to bcp rep?

    Can I get this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/772813

    And 2 of this
    Crucial 16GB DDR4 3200 MT/s (PC4-25600) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - CT16G4SFRA32A https://amzn.asia/d/1sL9O2Q

    And then win11 somewhere?
Sorry I have no idea what I am doing.

    • Yes you can add those yourself.
Not sure if you could talk to BPC and get them to add in anything.
I have been tempted by this but I don’t want to have to deal with possible part issues separately to the laptop. If something goes wrong I’d want to just send the whole thing in instead of troubleshooting the RAM or SSD issue myself and then sending it in.
I don’t care to spend my time of that sort of thing any more.

      • -6

Exactly!!! That's another downside! I don't understand why people even bother to look at this deal. Again, to me there's no deal here. Absolutely no deal

        • +3

or: How to say you don't know much about computer hardware without saying you don't know much about computer hardware

    • Just call up BCP and ask them if they'll install the parts for you if you buy the parts from them. Just say you want 16GB of RAM and that Kingston drive and they should be happy to do that for you. You could pay them for a win 11 license, but man it's stupidly easy to get windows for free, or at least buy it for <$30 from a key site.

  • +10

    Ram 60 -100

    SSD 50 - 250

Windows 11 Pro - $30 from key website.

Wish this was available in Adelaide have some spare ssds and ram ready to go

    • +3

Why isn't it? They do delivery

      • -6

My laptop died and I’m kind of in a rush, but most laptop deals are online only. Anyway carry on it’s a good deal

        • +1

          Express post?
          Didn't neg btw

  • Got one from the last deal. It’s a good unit but the keyboard is a bit weird to type on as if it’s mushy. There’s also problems with using 64gigs of ram. Some instability issue the max for stability is 32gig

    • What did you need 64gb for, video editing?

      • E-reps

    • Keyboard isn't that bad at all, it's not a membrane keyboard. I've got 32GB and can confirm it's stable. I can't imagine even 1% of prospective buyers wanting to put more than 32GB into something with this spec.

    • Do you not have coil whine issues when on battery?

Mine randomly start whining when on battery, and it is LOUD.

      • Of you adjust the settings for the rgb keyboard and light bar you get use to it. I’m using mine fine but weirdly it sounds almost as if it were a mechanical drive with the whine. You get used to it especially if your playing a game since the fans will be much more louder

      • Sounds like a defect, RMA it. Mine doesn't have a single whisper of coil whine. Alternatively, take the bottom panel off while it's running and try and identify the component causing the buzzing, then hot glue it down while it's off.

  • +1

good deal ~$1250 inc bitz gets you an excellent laptop

    • What bitz would you recommend?

  • Is there an AMD equivalent of this kind of laptop kit? (BYO memory and SSD, gaming card)

    • Don't believe so, this is only available as it's an Intel NUC

    • +1

Framework is coming out with a 16" that can have R7 7040 series cpus with upgradeable GPU modules.

      Don't know when exactly though.

      • +1

        Its also really expensive

        • +1

Yeah, but you're buying into the frame work ecosystem, which allows you to upgrade the mobo and gpu down the line.

Expensive when you can get deals like this? Yes. But it's pretty great value if you're only considering new products.

  • +1

Specs are pretty good. Deal imo unless someone can show me something better at this price

    • -3

Bro you just gotta be patient and deals come up !! Trust me…..

      • +1

Been waiting 2 months for a laptop deal for my mum.

        Hasn't been easy

        • Yeah lately has been hard I agree. But always keep an eye out….. I can suggest keep an eye out at Bing Lee sometimes they have such huuuge discounts….

        • +1

does you mum play video games? if not then this a waste of money

          • +1

@abadacus: Very much agree. I own this laptop, the battery life sucks regardless of the battery profile, and the temperature at idle is ridiculous. Also the keyboard sucks as another user has mentioned below.

It's a very capable gaming laptop however, and you should get it for that reason… just use an external keyboard.

          • @abadacus: Just after something decent in the 500 to 800 range.

            • +1

@Korban Dallas: Wait. Anything new I've seen in that price range is trash. Keep an eye out for refurbished business laptops, 8-10th gen intel thinkpads and latitudes are solid and sold by businesses.

Recommend subscribing to the laptop tag and reading through threads to educate yourself about laptops before you buy anything.

        • +4

Notice you asked if someone can show you better, and his response was 'trust me'. Uhuh.

  • Someone tell me why they sell laptops this way without ram, ssd, windows?

    • +3

It's quite unusual in a laptop.
The advantage is that you can choose your own storage, memory and OS which is more flexible and will probably be cheaper.

      • It's quite unusual in a laptop.

For a good reason. Must be more to this story.

        • +4

I bought one of those a while ago - when looking through the intel site and documentation I got the impression that these were intended to be sold commercially I.e. Buy in bulk, set up as you please and brand it as you wish for retail sale, software is included to change bios splash screen and the chassis is very plain.

The one I bought from bpc came with ssd, ram and Windows but I paid 1499…they probably just can't be bothered kitting them out to flog off the last of the stock?

        • +4

It is very common for ODM devices (CLEVO and TONGFANG) this is a Tongfang laptop its also sold by Eluktronics (MAG15R) in the US, XPG Xenia (US) and XMG Fusion 15 in EU. Essentially meant to be a blank barebone laptop for brands then stick their own branding on and marketing etc. I reckon BPC just got a deal on them late 2021/early 2022 and has been selling them cheap and probably as evocable said just probably flipping them to empty stock now they did initially brand them Kraken PC when I got mine (no actual branding to the product just the listing)

I can rate well enough especially if you already have RAM and SSDs. even if not ~$1300 still a good price as its night and day nicer quality than a acer nitro or similar

        • +2

Intel have sold other NUC products as barebone units.
They're usually mini PCs but this is one of their first NUC laptops

        • +3

Did you … Seriously ignore the rest of his comment? It's a barebones NUC, it's what they're for. It might be a niche audience, but that doesn't mean it's a bad idea or a bad buy. Some people have loads of leftover RAM from a previous laptop, or they want particularly high speed RAM, or they just want to cheap out. Some people don't want to pay for windows if they're going to use Linux. I wanted a Samsung 990 Pro, which is about as fast as an SSD gets - You're not going to find one of those in a laptop of this price class.

  • I already have a 512 nvme and 32gb of ram from my 5 year old MSI laptop (GTX1050, i5). Will this be a better deal than waiting for something else? I'm a bit worried about portability, is it thin? lightweight? Might pull the trigger since I don't need to buy the extras

    • Not particularly light or portable. 2kg and 15.6" screen is not heavy for what it is, but it's a bigger laptop.

    • +1

I imagine it's smaller than your current MSI laptop. Laptops have been getting thinner and lighter.
Compare dimensions and weight to get an idea.
Also on RAM, you will be losing performance if it's running at lower speed. It should be 3200MHz for best results.

    • Kinda too late, but from a gaming point of view, it's pretty light.

If you're looking for a 1050 tier laptop, wait for something with a 7840u. The igpu in that is almost a 1060 3gb, hence could be plenty light and battery efficient. Rtx 3060 is better than the igpu, of course.

  • +$300 for 32GB RAM and a 2tb SSD. Still a pretty good deal for a 140 watt gpu

  • Would I be better off selling my laptop from this deal to buy this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/623641

I reckon I could probably sell the laptop used for around the price it would cost to get this laptop and put an SSD in it and ram

  • Is the older gen cpu a big deal? Seems like the only downside here.

    • 11800h is pretty capable

    • +2

I think the 6GB of VRAM paired with a QHD screen might be an issue in the future
CPU isn't really a big deal unless you're planning on doing CPU intensive tasks. For gaming, it's not going to be the bottleneck

      • I really don't think it'll matter that much thanks to dlss/fsr. Especially since we're hitting a wall for manpower in the industry.

        • Newer games are getting more VRAM hungry. There’s been issues with a handful of games with even 8GB VRAM

  • I had one of the krakens which this was based on.
Great screen and cooling was pretty decent
Great performance for the price and I really liked the high res colour accurate screen.

These also have a 2year warranty which is a plus.

    • Hows the keyboard? Some mentioned its a deal breaker

      • was fine for me, mechanical from memory - keyboards a pretty personal thing

  • +1

The only good thing about this is the 2y warranty and Intel build quality.

Having to add $500 worth of parts and a slower 11th gen CPU makes it not much of a deal.

    • +6

Having to add $500 worth of parts

RAM and SSDs are cheap right now. You could get 16GB RAM and a 1TB NVMe for around $150 if you shop around.

    • 'Intel build quality'

To be more specific, it's a laptop made by 'Tsinghua Tongfang', rebranded as an Intel (which then is rebranded as others, including BPCTech's 'Kraken'). The company is a Chinese state-owned company.

I own this laptop and have given my review on it below. Build quality is OK, but I've always felt the need to be 'careful', as opposed to 'carefree' like with my Macbook (because the Macbook is VERY reassuring to me).

  • +3

keyboard is terrible, each key has like a 30% deadzone of which a key won't register. No complaints with the rest of the machine. Souped mined up with 32gb of ram and 2tb gen4 SSD and its extremely performant.

    • +3

I'll add to your review. The performance is awesome. But that are other things that suck about this laptop.

My unit has a very loud coil whine, which starts sounding at random times, seems to be due to the keyboard light. If you turn it off, it's barely legible, very uncomfortable.

You won't hear it if the laptop's plugged in.

But when you're trying to watch a movie at night on your bed, or even just working on your desk at night (when it's silent), and the whining starts… It really sucks.

Intel's software to manage the keyboard light sucks too. You finally get it customised to your liking, and 'save' the 'profile'. And then you click on something else, and then try to load your profile again… Gone. So basically, be happy with the default colours.

Another thing that sucks: Temperature. This processor is very powerful, a gaming oriented mobile chipset. It gets HOT, even when you're not gaming. Idling at 60 is normal. When gaming it can reach 90. When gaming, the part above the keyboard near the hinge gets SCORCHING HOT, painful to touch.

Battery life sucks, but this is probably normal for gaming laptops. WHen it's on 'battery saver', the performance takes a HUGE dip, barely usable with laggy YouTUbe playback, and the battery life still sucks (disclaimer - I wasn't able to customise the battery profiles on my version of Windows).

      Pros:

This is a gaming beast, and for value for the specs, CANNOT BE BEATEN (prove me wrong?)

      Neutral:

The design can either be described as 'clean', or 'boring' - I am the latter. It's boring as f, zero personality.

Hardware / rigity-wise, it's OK and should give you a bit of reassurance. Not Macbook level - this laptop screen will flex, and my unit's left hinge sometimes makes a click sound when opening / closing… Very suss… Be careful.

Edit: I didn't talk about BPCTech's customer service… DM me if you want to know more.

      • Ah, you've reminded me about the coil whine. Identical experience to yours, of course I want to use the keyboard backlight but it's far too audible. Rest I too agree with but aren't as big of an issue to me.

      • did you try msi afterburner to reduce voltage for more battery life when not plugged in?

      • $1200 for a laptop of this caliber that functions at a 'playable' or even functional level is unheard of… it's not a legion 3060 laptop, but it doesn't cost $2400 either

        • Ah yes. For the price, it is unbeatable, hands down the best gaming laptop you can get.

          • @smartProverble: That's what I mean, for the price you're not gonna get better performance…

This thing beat my R5/5700XT desktop in cinebench 23 and is just weaker in terms of gaming performance…

The 6gb of VRAM is the only thing gimping this laptop from being a gaming beast IMO.

            • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I'm not disagreeing with you. I agree. It's a beast of a gaming laptop for the price… (and also, a beast of a gaming laptop as it is IMO… Many hours were spent playing games at medium - ultra settings)

  • Also grabbed kraken from last deal and no issues at all! Runs a bit hot but prop it up with a stand and it's fine. I contacted BPC and asked them to add more ram and an ssd and it was no issue at all and somehow cheaper than buying my own of the same type at the time. Would recommend!

    • Howa the keyboard?

      • I use an external keyboard but i did test the actual keyboard and it felt nice but slightly wobbly when typing quickly! Didn't affect anything though, i just prefer an external keyboard due to resale value etc.

  • Out of stock already :(

  • they cancelled my order and offered me the AORUS 15P for $1400. Spec is: i7-11800H, FHD 240 Hz, win10 H, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 3060P. Honestly, $1200 and I would have bite, $1400 is a no no deal.

Called them said I don't want any of their current models, still received no refund confirmation for a whole day, not the best retailer to do deal with and THEY KNOW IT. No wonder these guys don't have PAYPAL options

    • Same here! And they sent me an invoice so I assumed they had shipped and I bought the required RAM and SSD already. They offered the same deal but plastic chassis instead of metal, and FHD instead of QHD all for the privilege of paying an extra $300….??? Get Stuffed!
