"the M.V. Yackatoon, a 50 foot fishing vessel that has been operating in Sydney since 1989."

Does that mean its a rust bucket?

    • The boat looks pretty damn good in photos taken less than 2 years ago…

How many people max? Have been on a charter where they didn't have enough (rosty and crappy) rods for everyone, and people fishing shoulder to shuolder, withthe obvious big mess of lines.

Imagine 12 lines in the water, and 1 Kingfish uniting them all in one big bird's nest.

Assuming it's mac 12 people, and if it's the boat on the picture, i doub that all the people can fish at the same time, let alone trying to catch a Marlin.

Out of the 5 houes you might get 3 fishing, 180 mins / 12 p = about 15 mins per person to have a go at the big trolling lure for a marlin, while the others … enyou the …

  • I agree with cameldownunder - only a 5 hour trip means 1 hour minimum travel each way.

So at best 3 hours fishing (could be a lot less) and if they are trolling they'll probably have 3 lines in the water (left, centre, right).

On their website it says until October they berley trail rather than troll, so MAYBE more people can fish but once you get a yellowfin on (if you are lucky enough to) not sure if all other lines have to come in?

If this were an all-day trip for say $200 I would definitely buy it, but 5 hours is bloody short given travel times….

Also I am guessing when you ring up they will say well our "Ouffer trips" are only on certain dates - and any trip will be subject to a minimum number of paying passengers - it will be no surprise if this minimum is higher for "Ouffer trips" than normal trips….

Also describing Australian Salmon as a premium fish is generous and good luck catching a Mahi Mahi if you aren't trolling….

On past trips on similar boats, we've drawn cards to see which fisherperson gets which hookup - with 10 passengers on board, if there are only 3 hookups all day, only Ace, 2 and 3 even get to hold the rods - the rest just spend their time praying for more hookups…

  • for some of us,5 hours is a long time to be hanging over the side and yelling the name of the boat

    "YYYYAAACCCKKKAATTTTOOONNN"

    lame joke,sorry guys

  • Another day I discovered a new definition of "this boat rocks", wasn't nice :-)
