[Short Dated] Gastrex $3.99 / Heartburn Relief $5.99 / Ibuprofen $3.99 & More Delivered @ PharmacySavings

140

Hi Ozbargainers,

Tonight we've got a pretty massive clear out of over 1000 boxes of short dated and over stocked product. I ran a similar deal a few months ago and we sold pretty much everything we had and I had to contact suppliers asking for more shorter dated product which they found somewhat odd as I usually call and give them grief when short dated product arrives.

These products have come from a few sources:
1/ Our Pharmacy / Stock held for customer collections - who never collected
2/ Suppliers that keep delivering really short dated product (without notice)
3/ Suppliers that contact me and offer me shorter dated product (at a better than usual price)
4/ Products I just have way too much of an I need to swap out pretty much at or below cost for $$
5/ Products I need to clear before they become more difficult to sell (ie changes to expected paracetamol maximum packed sizes)

Why would I buy 10x short dated Cetirizine for $3.99? I need it daily and eBay offers 320x after discount voucher for $31 delivered… (expiry 2025) Even if I don’t need such a big amount 39 cents per tablet is too much especially short dated. Usually I pay 9-13 cents per tablet.

    • +14

Many people don't want 320x tablets. I receive 2-5 emails per week from Ozbargainers asking for smaller packet sizes.

I post large packet sizes on here - peeps bag me out for selling too large a quantity, I list smaller packet sizes on here people complain the cost per tablet is too expensive compared to larger packet sizes.

Also - lets say you were in the market for 10x tablets, rather than trying to de-rail the deal by making the first comment about perceived poor value, what do you think would be a fair price for this item delivered? (keep in mind, transaction fees are $1 and postage is $1.20 and envelope costs are around $0.20 - plus unless I stay at work until 1am every night, I have to pay someone +/-$2 to slide the item into an envelope and put it in the post box)

I know I'm getting a bit worked up here but I'm getting weary of peeps who make up random facts to kill my deals - do you REALLY pay 9-13c per tablet delivered for TGA approved cetirizine in a small packet size as you've stated above - You're paying 90c to $1.30 per 10 tablet box delivered? Please post the link - it would be a great Ozbargain post.

It’s generic, but I don’t care about a brand. I don’t need a specific brand. I have written to you in a private message before but never got a response.

I hate seeing phenylepherine being advertised
(Eg Cold & Flu Day and Night PE)

As per the Wikipedia page - “Its efficacy as an oral decongestant has been questioned, with several independent studies finding that it provided no more relief to sinus congestion than a placebo.”

Paracetamol pack of 100 also seems expensive at $5.99 compared to Panamax which regularly gets discounted to 99 cents (or even 69 cents)

    • By the way, I’m not criticising the other parts of the deal, they seem fine - obviously cheaper with a script for some (loperamide, or getting reflux medications such as PPI ) but decently priced for over the counter

    • +2

Please post a link for 100 Paracetamol delivered for under $5.99 and I will hand in my Ozbargain badge. Keep in mind not everyone has a Chemist Warehouse next door, or wants to go to one to collect their 99c Paracetmol they roll out once every 6 months to make the general population think this is the actual price (hint; its a loss leader to make the public think their prices are generally low)

BTW: CW current price is $12.98 delivered, if 100x paracetamol is the only item purchased. Understand most Ozbagainers would collect for $2.99, but if we're comparing delivered 1 off purchases - this comparison should be acknowledged.

Also please consider that most Ozbargainers know cold and flu PE is no where near as effective as pseudo versions (which can't be sold online), but thousands of PE boxes sell at our store (millions around Australia), if can you find this product for less than $4.99 delivered anywhere else in Oz, the comment is fair. If you're debating the efficacy of one active ingredient in the medicine, is this really the right forum?. The product also has several other active ingredients which may assist those with cold and flu symptoms, pulling out the old chestnut of phenylepherine is questionable in the relief of these symptoms while a true statement, doesn't consider the other active ingredients and their effect on the relief of cold and flu symptoms.

      • +2

Paracetamol you have a fair print for delivered, and it’s only $5 difference

PE sells in millions because people don’t know any better. I’m a doctor and even my wife bought that one day thinking it was pseudoephedrine

The active ingredient in the cold and flu is paracetamol - just pay $5.99 and you can get 100 tabs instead. Phenylepherine is placebo - even withdrawn by FDA for rhinitis

        • So as a doctor you firmly believe the other active ingredients in the medicine (aside from Paracetamol) offers no benefit to anyone with cold and flu symptoms and as such the entire medicine shouldn't be sold ? (This is a day night variant on offer)

          • +1

@jason101: Day tablet is generally only paracetamol and phenylepherine. So yes, for day, clearly no benefit.

Night time there is a sedating antihistamine, usually chlorpheniramine 2mg.
Possibly a bit sedating, but at this low dose - probably not much. Usual dose is often 8 mg for adults.

I accept your price is much cheaper than full price, but I wouldn’t be commenting on this post if you weren’t advertising phenylepherine.

      • +2

Also, why are you defending phenylepherine?

Most pharmacists are fairly honest about how useless it is

        • +2

100% agreed that oral Phenylephrine is utter trash and should have never been allowed to be sold in any products.

I have zero respect for anyone trying to sell it (especially the Ozbargain community)

Source: I did a masters project comparing it to pseudoephedrine and am a hospital pharmacist.

          • @Bmaca: So in our master project you also identified that the other active ingredients in the medicine offer zero benefit to people with cold and flu symptoms? ie/ They don't reduce fever, help people sleep if congested etc?

            • @jason101: You've totally missed the point Jason.
I never stated that paracetamol or other antihistamines are ineffective, I was clearly referring to oral Phenylephrine. And my project directly compared Pseudoephedrine and oral phenylephrine.

I think it's unethical putting any non efficacious medication in a combination tablet like this, and would recommend separate use of paracetamol, Pseudoephedrine, other antihistamines etc

              • +1

@Bmaca: And I will add that IV phenylepherine is different, and is effective during anaesthetics. However Bmaca is right in that oral phenylepherine really isn’t helpful. Multiple studies supporting this.

Here is a great article on this:
                https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Why-Is-Oral-Phenylephr…

              • -1

@Bmaca: I accept this view - but this is a bargain forum not a forum debating the ethics of 1 ingredient of several in 1 medication in 1 item of many items listed.

This deal has been crucified because 1 of around 10-15 items listed contained 1 ingredient many people have a strong view on.

In our pharmacy we've got about 2,000 lines of product, according to Ozbargain (the collective view of quite a few) when some of these items are discounted, they should not be offered on Ozbargain (a bit like the debates that rage over bottled water).

This is the part I struggle with, personally I believe if a vendor can offer something (anything) cheaper than anyone else in Australia - the Ozbargain community should know. Others may not share this view and I accept that, calling me out as unethical is probably a stretch too far, but in a free country I guess this is your right.

                • @jason101: As I mentioned above, I wouldn’t have commented, and in fact would have recommended the deal if you didn’t advertise the PE.

You’re welcome to be upset but I have always commented on the PE in previous deals, and will continue doing so. I would actually respond very positively if I didn’t see PE being offered.

I do accept you are a business and in most ways, everything you are doing is great, I just absolutely hate seeing PE being offered, regardless of the combination.

Other suggestion I would have would be to advertise Zinc supplements. I prescribe 75mg routinely now for colds, and unfortunately I don’t see many deals or discussions on this.

Honestly I very rarely buy anything I see on OzBargain (because I don’t need it) but I find it very helpful to learn from others in the comments section, and this is what I’m trying to help with here.

  • @jason101 trust Fexit x100 shortdated is coming up as $18.99 instead of $17.99. Do I need to put a code in?

    • Sorry I will fix it now.

      • All good, working now.

Thanks OP…got some Paracetamol to take to the Clinic at a remote fishing location as they're always short of items like this.

    • +1

Appreciate the support - I need it tonight.

    • dynaflow delivering the goods

  • Hi Jason,

Does the expiry really mean it cannot be consumed after that date or really that it's efficacy cannot be guaranteed therefore dosing is ineffective?

    • +1

It would be improper of me to suggest any medicine should be consumed after its used by date.

    • +1

Expiry dates are there to guarantee the efficacy of the medication. Occasionally has been officially changed when more evidence shows it still works as effectively. Expired medications may also have sterility issues

Many expired medications also make their way to Africa etc

  • Any good stuff to get a heart burn?

  • +1

Just got shipping notification about 30 minutes ago.

Honestly Jason it can wait. Go to bed mate, no one expects you to be working this time of night!! It can wait till tomorrow or Monday to be shipped 😂

    • +1

I agree but honestly auspost makes businesses look bad with their shockingly long delivery times so I get why they don't want to wait 😅

      • +2

The same people that complain about $3.99 cetirizine, $5 paracetamol delivered and the efficacy of cold and flu meds are the same people that open and vigorously pursue chargeback after 5-6 days of waiting for delivery. So I always try to get all Thursday night purchase out on Friday mornings mail or Aust post won’t collect again until Monday, then from Monday they can take up to 10 working days on average to deliver, I don’t want to start the morning off with a rant about Aust post but they are killing small business in Australia and opening the door for Amazon to crush any privately operated websites reliant on Australia post.
