  • Hey Op , what’s your go to burger at work?

    • +24

      Quarter pounder is best imo

      • +11

        Double QP

        • +13

i used to be about QP or Big mac, but these days I will happily pay the little more for the Angus burger.

          • +6

            @Jimothy Wongingtons:

            Angus burger

Had a bbq bacon angus burger recently, still good but the angus burgers were so much better with the sourdough buns when they were first introduced, wish they'd bring them back.

            • +6

@MiscOzB: I vaguely remember the chips being a more fancy chip too… they used to serve them table service and in a little metal oil strainer thing if you were dining in…

      • +2

Do ya rate the fillet o fish?

        • +2

I’ve never tried the fillet, probably one of the next things to eat.

          • +1

@jdeals1: Out of curiosity, you one those under-age employees that the big M always employs?

          • +2

            @jdeals1: Whattttttt, you've NEVER had a fillet o fishies?

          • @jdeals1: Can you snitch on fact that MacDonald's only care about quality when the store is brand new for first few weeks and then its just a fast food with a quality on lottery style basis?

        • sometimes it is good..sometimes is totally crap

      • +3

I agree with the Quarter Pounder verdict.

I've always chosen that, over the Big Mac.

I still have fond memories of the El Maco burger from the mid-1990s :-D

        • and shaker fries!

  • +2

    Thanks!

OP, what do you redeem when you acquire maccas points?

Ozbargain favourite is iced chocolate from mccafe menu for 2500 points.

    • Do the points expire? I haven't redeemed them yet

      • +6

I’ve just checked and points will expire after 12 months

        • Geez…now you tell me,..

          So, I hurriedly checked.

It doesn't say if I had points expired in the past,
but it does actually say, which tranche of points expires in the future.

I got to start redeeming then.

          Thanks for confirming @jdeals1

( Hmmm…I wonder if I lost any in the past by not redeeming )

          • +3

@whyisave: Where are you seeing that? Can't see any expiry date on mine.

            • @bamzero: If you click on the Reward as if you're redeeming it, you'll find the expiry date under the price. All of mine are 31/12/2023 except for McCafe Beverage which is 31/12/2024.

              • +1

@eyeballz2770: I think that's just a general expiry for the reward item, not the points. Mine has the same expiry dates listed as yours.

                • +2

@bamzero: Go to More > About, Contact & Legal > Frequently Asked Questions > scroll, scroll, scroll

                  Do my points expire?

Nothing lasts forever, but you'll have plenty of time to save up for your rewards!

Your points will expire on the first day of the month, after 12 months from when points were first earned. For example, if you earn points on January 8th, 2022, those points will expire on February 1st, 2023. This gives you plenty of time to redeem your points.

We'll give you a heads up 10 days before your points expire.

Me, again, you can also find your history of purchases.

Click Rewards &… at the bottom of the app. View history is a clickable link under your points balance at the top of the page.

Also, in the FAQ which relates to knowing your purchase history:

Is there a limit to how many points I can earn ?

You, you will reach an earning cap after 20 transactions or 30,000 points, which ever occurs first; (which includes both earning transactions and redemption transactions) in a rolling 24-hor period.

      • Yes

    • +7

Any McCafe drinks are usually the best value for money, but personally I’d usually get a snack wrap or another larger meal item when using my points on shift.

      • +2

        Thanks.

Second question, how often is your store's ice cream machine broken?

        • +21

It’s always worki… oops never mind

        • I can't remember the last time a stores ice cream machine was broken. It's always been working whenever I order my soft serve with a flake.

    • +2

The maximum points that you can accumulate is 30,000.

      • +1

30,000 per 24hr period. You can definitely hold more than 30,000 in the account. The week after pts were introduced I saw some people on Facebook asking questions about the app and they had over 100,000 pts.

        • +1

How in the world they have 100k points? That's some fast food addiction. Lol

    • I find redeeming for hot chocolates gives me the most satisfaction (and value) for the least amount of points.

  • +1

Too bad you cannot redeem points for meals only small bites

    • +2

There are different tiers… you get access to the standard burger range with 7500 points

      • +6

it just seems such poor value compared to a large mccafe drink for 2500 though

        • +2

I'm not a coffee drinker, so we'll have to agree to disagree :)

        • +4

Even better, free coffee on any $4 spend when you get to 60 😎
I'm not a coffee drinker either, so I get it for my wife. Cheap shout 🤪

          • +2

@davebern: wait what? as in 60 years old? thats awesome

            • +4

              @perfectlydark: Yep. It's not all bad turning 60 😎
You need to be retired or working <35 hours pw to be eligible for the Victorian Seniors card, but Maccas never ask for it.
Life begins at 60…for Maccas at least 🤪 Free/half price public transport in Victoria for Seniors card holders.

              • +1

@davebern: Do they (McDonalds) ask for proof of age?

                • +3

@kiitos: My friends and I have never been asked to present a senior's card or proof of age at any Maccas store.
If you like anywhere near 60, you should be right

          • +2

@davebern: or a med soft drink if u spend $4 with student edge card

            • @TrustNoBody: Is that student edge promo still running? I thought they got rid of it.

              • +1

@Agret: Still running. Most cashiers don't know much about it.
Small drink only. I'm often refused, as apparently, I 'dont look like a student '

                • +1

@Spending2Much: are you serious , they refuse you !!!..i’m 46 n definitely ain’t a student but also what does a student look like these days ? as my daughter is 29 and just finished uni this year so she was technically a student and some ppl like to go back and do further study but i’m a local at that maccas so they know me so probably don’t care

                  • +1

@TrustNoBody: Yes, very serious. Might grab Macca's on way home from work. Wearing hi viz. I've tried the "I'm at Tafe" line. No joy. I've been told I don't look like a student and flatly refused.
I'm certain it's the franchise owner refusing.

              • +1

@Agret: yes but i just looked it up n they have downsized it from med to small but i’ve had my card for about 10 years n everytime i go to maccas i say med fanta on the student edge card n they give it too me no dramas , they don’t even care about me showing the card

            • +1

@TrustNoBody: SMALL drink on student edge.

              • +1

@Spending2Much: everytime i go i just say medium fanta on student edge n they give it to me

    • They could also be used for sides to a meal or even dessert

  • Can you spill the beans? Are McDonald's truly 24 hours or do they close the kitchen for 30 to 45 mins every night around 3am?

    • +2

The kitchen should always be open as product is usually kept during this time. However some specific stores do shut on a low trading night (eg Monday) between midnight and early morning to work through maintenance tasks

      • +1

Can you spill the beans? Are most of the "chefs" even trusted by their parents in the kitchen unsupervised when they're at home?

        • +3

          Can you spill the beans?

          That's Oliver's

And lmao wdym chefs? It doesn't take much to work back area of Macca's. Their parents don't have preset timers and functions specifically made for 14 year olds.

          • @pennypincher98: I mean I put chefs in quotation marks… really just making a nuisance of myself really.

            • +1

@kiriakoz: Yeah but a lot of it is press buttons and take shit out when it beeps. The same principle as a microwave. The assembly is akin to making a sandwich. People are trained in bite-size sections (one is literally putting shit in bags) which adds further ease.

You need to know what to press etc but it's nothing like an actual kitchen.

            • +3

@kiriakoz: at least you didn't call food delivery drivers "waiters" because they bring you your meal …."our waiter bring your meal to your door"

        • Yeah, as said above pretty simple to work in backarea at maccas. Kitchen at home would be a different story…

      • +1

Monday 3am I went to 3 different McDonalds stores and they all said they were “resetting the kitchen”. Is this the kind of thing that happened every night or just once a week?

        • +6

Damn! I would’ve just accepted my fate after the second rejection and went to the servo.

        • +1

It really depends on the store, but I’d expect it’s something that happens weekly.

    • Ive gone to a few maccas late at night and at different times. 24 hour store on the freeway and been told they are doing a system reset so they cant put through my order.

      • +2

System reset is likely bs, they’re probably just in the middle of a cleaning process or don’t yet have enough product left

  • Thanks OP

  • +9

Hard to pay the extra amount after $1 Mcchicken.

    • +1

But the choice is not yours — resistance is futile

  • Wish they made this $5.90 without the extra cheeseburger.

    • +8

Just pick up your order and scream, “Anybody want a cheeseburger for $1?” Last time I tried that I was mobbed like Blackpink

      • Doing that comes with free "accommodation" and meals too, much bigger saving than $1 😂

      • Love your thinking man 😂

      • does this actually work? i wanna try it

    • +5

What? Why not add the cheeseburger fillings to your Big Mac?

      • -1

And make what 3 patties and cheese? No thanks I'm good lol

        • If I was the king of McDs, the Big Mac would come standard with three patties; and Happy Meals would incude toy, book or cookies. Glad they now allow frozen drinks to be optioned with meals.

          • +1

@sumyungguy: As in bun patty cheese bun patty cheese bun patty cheese bun?

I wouldn't say I have an overly refined palette but that'll taste like a lot of the same.

            • @pennypincher98: I'm no epicure but rate three as the perfect number of patties, which costs $1.40 to customise

      • What maniac DOESN'T do this?

  • +1

Why did they remove the password at the log in?

    • +1

Huh? The app still requires a password to log in.

  • +4

OP, have you ever heard why you can't order family meals via the mymaccas app?

    • +1

Not 100% sure, but likely to make sure you can’t apply other promotions on the already pretty cheap order

      • It would help with the drive thru queues a little if mcfavourite boxes are available on the mymaccas app.

  • Hopefully I get something - most of my offers are a free hashbrown with coffee and discounted iced coke

  • -1

I would suggest to not insert your card details into the app, or if you have to, quickly remove your details straight after ordering. The app is not secure and I've had orders placed in another state.

  • Great the only times I get maccas is when the big Mac and cheese burger deal is on.

    • Lucky you!

  • Sales must be down if they're doing this kind of thing in May.

    • +2

It’s something that is done every year as may is generally a quieter month for sales

      • +2

November must be the most quiet month for sales, as Maccas has daily app deals all throughout that month

      • Wonder why May is a quieter month, would think should be pretty steady trend for fast food in general.

  • +9

I got the $1 McChicken and it was an utter joke. I feel like I saved 50c but I checked the normal price for this oversized mcnugget in a stale bun with brown wilted lettuce and a 10c piece squirt of mayo and it was (profanity) $7.80. That is seriously insane.

  • Thanks OP - great to know the offers ahead of time!

  • I used to get 25% off a lot more often and now it's rare as well as dropped to 20% off.
Hopefully 40% off is available on the app this year, it would be good.
Also would be better if the order can be used more than once rather than one time use only.

    • 40% off is very unlikely, staff only get a 20% discount. As for the regular app offers, it ranges anywhere from 10% to 25% off.

      • +1

I haven't got those app offers in ages of 10% off up to 25% off.

      • +1

Do you no longer get 50% off when working?

  • +4

I've just discovered the request of steaming buns. How have I never known about this sorcery before. Lifechanging!

Edit: Steaming BUNS not to be confused with Steamed Hams
