Officeworks Sold Me Fake Apple AirPods Pro 2

Hi all,

I just recently brought apple airpods pro 2 from Officeworks, and have confirmed with Apple store it is fake.

Just want to let you all know, when purchasing Airpods, remember to check straight away the serial number on the box and Airpod Case must match. If not, its more than likely to be fake.

Going to officeworks tomorrow for a return. Hopefully there wont be too much trouble.

Apple:
Problem Description/Diagnosis
Issue: Customer presents device to the Genius Bar reporting that despite help from Apple Support, the firmware can’t be updated and ANC does not work well.

Steps to Reproduce: Visually verified through the Genius Bar that the firmware won’t update and HDI can’t be run. The serial number on the case was bought from JB Hi Fi in Chadstone on April 5 and reported as also being unable to run HDI.

Cosmetic Condition: Case feels heavier than authentic AirPod Pro 2nd gen case and has a distinct pink pall. The “engraved” writing on the AirPods is darker than expected and appears to be printed rather than etched.

Proposed Resolution: Apple is unable to service these AirPods as there appears to have been third party modifications.

Resolution: Service Denied
Reason: Unauthorized Modification

Apple also said that:

Box (package) serial no - was genuine
Airpod case/airpod serial no - it was brought in Chadstone
Icloud registration serial no - was from china with a korean contract.

All with different serial numbers

The funny thing, the box seemed to be sealed and had a genuine serial no

Cheers

the only way i can imagine this happened is that a different customer purchased a pair, then refunded the fakes and OW resold. quite unlikely though i assume

I imagine this would be a lot easier than you’d think. And a lot more common than you’d think 🤦🏻‍♂️

Let me try to get this straight. You bought them from Officeworks, but Apple is saying that the serial number says that they were bought from JB HiFi. And Apple is saying that they have previously been reported as faulty?

The serial number printed on the fakes will have been printed on many fakes.

      • Its so weird. I brought the aipods pro 2 on the 22/04/23, and when trying the Airpods, the active noise cancellation didnt work, the near-me function didnt work. Tried to update the airpods didnt work. Hence, going to apple.

Maybe OW gave you a pair that someone switched and 'returned'.

Yeah i have a feeling that it happened like that

  • Very interesting. Email complaint to Officeworks. Milk it a bit. You deserve it. PITA for you to goof around etc

I am 100% sure if you present this to Officeworks store, they will deny you a refund, they will ask you to prove it, and that you did not do it yourself. Instead of returning it to the store you bought it from you probably have to contact their head office and present evidence to that effect.

If i was you i would just return it and ask for a refund saying the ANC is terrible. Then Officeworks will need to return it to apple, then they can deal with this whole issue not you.

Yeah, sometimes playing dumb like this is a much better avenue to get the required solution.

If you tell the OW staff the truth you will ironically only create more headaches for yourself. Blame the ANC being faulty and get a replacement - but CHECK the serials/ANC etc instore with a staff member present so if it's another fake you can blame the store before taking possession.

Officeworks would have recorded the serial number when they sold it to you. It may even be printed on the receipt.

    • only the serial number that was on the box, not necessarily the serial number for the AirPods within if they have been swapped by a bad actor.

    • Anyways just had an appointment today (1/07/2023)

It's obviously Office works selling the fakes and making billions. No one (other than myself) would suspect them, it's the perfect crime. Case closed!
