Western Digital Blue SN570 1TB PCIe Gen 3 NVMe M.2 2280 SSD $86.13 ($76.13 for Eligible Accounts) Delivered @ Scorptec eBay

270

Not much to really say here, only $76.13 if you are eligible for the $10 discount on Ebay right now. Otherwise its $86.13 for a 1TB SN570. The cheapest I've ever seen this SSD.

EDIT: Removed the coupon code because it was unique to my account. There should be a code on the listing if your account is eligible.

  • Thanks, OP. Got one. Seems like there is only 4 left now.

Geez, SSD prices are falling faster than I can follow

  • Thanks OP. Got one too.

SN570 is better quality. Unless you need gen 4, I'd go WD

    • The main issue with Kingston NV2 is controller and NAND lottery. QLC versions do exist and Tom's Hardware received a 2TB QLC version. As an owner of both SN570 and NV2, my concern with NV2 is this:

      • If I need to warranty the SSD later on, there is a high chance of getting a QLC version of NV2 at that time.

My concern is valid as I just bought another Kingston SSD for cheap last weekend, it is QLC.

      • Just curious, how do you check if the drive is QLC or TLC?

For NV2, you are probably going to get either a Phison based controller model or SMI controller model. If you are unclear which one it is, you can run flash utilities for both, one of them will return the results. The flash id utility shows you the controller and the NAND type.

    Account specific code?

    • Oh actually this seems to be correct after quickly breezing through the T&C.

Managed to get a $10 code on my other account. Thanks OP. Bought one for a games drive. Now need the KC3000 back.

  • Any recommendations for a M2 SSD SATA (for an older device)?

      WD Blue SA510 is reliable

  • The extra $13 for the 970 Evo Plus seems worthwhile to me. DRAM can make a huge difference in day to day use.

    • If you actually do a lot of work on your PC, then DRAM can make a difference. For most people, it is not as clear cut. Part of the problem is SN570 is one of the best performing DRAMless SSD. Not only it supports HMB, WD hinted the controller does have a small block of memory buffer.

Another issue is that the latest batch of 970 Evo Plus has a new controller and a new type of NAND, the latter meant its sustained write speed actually drops. Still out perform SN570, but the margin isn't that big. 970 Evo Plus is still better. If you do get 970 Evo Plus, make sure you upgrade the firmware as soon as possible.

One annoying thing with SN570 right now is the included 1 month Adobe CS trial is unclaimable at the moment, WD's Web page to do that is completely broken for 1 month now and WD's response is basically: live with it, no code for you.

      • 1 month Adobe CS trial

is it that important to to able to trial Adobe CS for 1 month?
        seems like a pointless promo

        • It's useful to me, I do use quite a lot of Adobe apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere). Furthermore, it is good to test how well the SSD performs under those apps. Schools often include that for student laptops, so yeah, not worth it for most people.

Anyway, WD still owes me a couple of vouchers and as mentioned, so far, WD support's response is no can do.

      • Agreed. Im no DRAM snob, but the $13 is an amount I'll not miss for a notable performance boost. Thats all.

WD hinted the controller does have a small block of memory buffer.

Purely running off memory, I believe one of the ssd test apps managed to find 15MB; which is better than zero.

        • I actually own both SN570 and 970 Evo Plus. Day to day use, not much difference. For 1TB, 970 Evo Plus does have a larger dynamic SLC cache. It is a bit annoying the firmware upgrade is a must. 2TB version though, it is not as clear cut, for some weird reason, SN570 2TB has a 900GB dynamic SLC cache. It's actually a bit of a pain to test that (didn't enjoy writing 1TB+ worth of data to an SSD just to test SLC cache size).

SN570 is probably not worth it now because the $20 e-gift card promotion ended already. On that subject, WD hasn't sent me the $20 e-gift card yet. 1TB 970 Evo Plus is better, budget permitting.

    • Can I ask where is it available for $99 with code or $89 with code? For the same seller it looks like the 1Tb 970 plus is listed at $109?
