15% off Good Food Restaurant Gift Cards: Digital & Physical Gift Cards (+ $2.95 Physical Card Delivery) @ The Card Network

370
GOOD4MUMS

Update: successfully used the white DIGITAL version of the Good Food card on EatClub - added to the app and used at a restaurant not on the list. This would suggest the card works similarly to the Restaurant Choice and Restaurant Card that are accepted based on merchant category code. Also credit to @SomeBooy's comment below - This Card is a restricted access network gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at selected merchants that have the designated merchant category code ‘Eating Places’ or ‘Drinking Places’… Specifically the card is not valid at venues that are designated by their merchant category code as Fast food or quick service restaurants.

  • How to find out if the restaurants I want to go would accept the card ??

    • +5

you can see the list of restaurants here: https://goodfood.gift/search

I've heard the digital card does get accepted anywhere with the restaurant MCC - I've just bought one, so will report if it works at a local shop not on the list

      • yup fantastic,, please advise =)

In Adelaide its like only two places can be used LOL

        • +4

mum just successfully used the Digital card via the EatClub app, which from my experience means it works at all restaurant MCC places - same experience in the previous TheFork GC deal - I've also since used TheFork GC on Mr Yum ordering app (via Apple Pay) and at a cafe

          • +1

@egglings: very interesting. Do you mean to say, it's accepted as a payment card with Eatclub app.

Would it automatically mean everything on Eatclub is applicable or am I just being optimistic.

          • @egglings: not familiar with the EatClub app, would you mind giving more details? Does it mean this gc can be added to the eatclub app and then the eatclub app can be used for payment in any restaurant like applepay?

            • +1

@TantrumToBlind: should've explained myself better - what @Pat Rick said above - can be added as a payment method on EatClub and works on the restaurants/vendors that you take out a deal with on the EatClub app

          • @egglings: egglings, were you able to use the digital card elsewhere apart from Eatclub? e.g a physical restaurant

            • +1

@scrimshaw: yep! used at the two cafes in the city - double checked and they weren't on the good food list

      • +2

        The T&Cs sound optimistic:

This Card is a restricted access network gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at selected merchants that have the designated merchant category code ‘Eating Places’ or ‘Drinking Places’. The card is not valid at will not work at venues outside of these merchant category codes. Specifically the card is not valid at venues that are designated by their merchant category code as Fast food or quick service restaurants.

Is this the same as the restaurant one? that can be used everywhere using via DIGITAL

    • I would like to know that too.

      • Digital should work - see my comment above

    • NO!

      • Have you tested it yourself?

        • The physical card only

    • Thousands vs 700+ from what they advertise

  • Yes same would like to know too. Hopefully it works the same as “restaurant gift card”

  • +1

This GOOD FOOD restaurant card cannot be redeemed at every restaurant like the black one “restaurant gift card”. It can only be redeemed at selected restaurants (most of them are fine dining restaurants).

    • Is it the ones list online?

  • Whats the MCC code for this ?

    • The place I went to is 5812

  • So if there is $2 or $5 left on card then small balances would be hard to use ?

    • +4

Yes, it's a pain, for us, for the restaurant, and for the people waiting in line, got a few dirty looks before, even from my own kids, some tips (YMMV):
      0. work out exactly how much you have left
      1. if there's a queue, be nice, use other quicker payment and move on
      2. if there's a surcharge to use credit card, it's a hassle to work out how much to pay to max out the card, move on
      3. if the person has no idea how to do split payment, just move on

      Some success stories:
      1. Subway loyalty program, pay with loyalty money, the rest with gift card leftover, maybe it may work for other loyalty program too (eg Red Rooster)
      2. Managers/Owners at the cash registers taking payments tend to know how to do split payments
      3. RSL clubs or places where they take your orders and payments at your table, those guys are pros

      • Have you actually used this gift card at Subway and worked?

        • Whoops, sorry, not these cards, I was referring to the Restaurant Gift Cards and the Restaurant Choice cards. I did a search on Ozbargain for this card and found no comments to confirm this particular card can be used on any other food and beverages places..

          • @plain_biscuit: I'm also betting on that it works on EatClub

            Otherwise we been gyped

      • step 2. do a quick math (phone calculator is handy) and work out the nearest amount. it's fine to leave a few cents left

  • So this is same as “Restaurant Choice “ Gift Card…
    Could anyone please confirm.
    Thanks

    • @egglings believes this to be the case

  • wonder if it can be used at Hotels, Motels and Resorts like the Restaurant Choice Card

  • I tried just now at menulog and it declined.

    • Interesting, as the Restaurant Choice card works for Menulog.

      • We'll this ain't the superior restaurant choice card

  • +1

I just used at a local food court place and it worked

  • Anyone able to confirm if they work at fast food places like Macca's, KFC etc.? Comments above seem conflicting as to whether they do or not.

Otherwise the wait goes on for another 15%+ sale on the Restaurant cards (either black or TCN).

    • +1

      I tried KFC and declined.

      • I think KFC was one that declined with RC if i recall right.

      • Maccas declined too

        • add The Restaurant to Macca's app payment and it works

    • +2

Fast food places in most cases fall under the MCC 5814 - fast food restaurants.

Most likely the coverage for "Eating Places or Drinking Places" on this card are 5812 - eating places and restaurants, and 5813 - bars, cocktail lounges, discotheques, nightclubs and tavern-drinking places (alcoholic beverages)

  • +2

If it works at certain places let us know . I will try as well my newly purchased $100 gift card in the next few days at different places

  • +3

Added to my Apple Pay, worked at a local restaurant that’s not on the list.

  • +5

I have activated mine but 2 hours later the link by text to the digital gift card has not come. Anyone else with the same issue?

    • +1

      Ya same boat

They must be still making the digital card :)

    • Did you get that text yet? I haven't

      • +1

        Nope.

        • maybe they just took our money and ran

  • +3

Used at 4 different places yesterday and all successful. An independent pizza shop, the footy buying beers and 2 pubs.

    • digital version and added to eWallet (Apply Pay / Google Pay) ?

    • +1

when did you buy the card? seems to be issues with activating them now no text to mobile

  • Update: I spoke to someone called Ethan. He said they are having technical issues and are asking customers to wait 24 hours while they sort out the technical issues with that particular card. I am happy to wait 24 hours and can request a refund then.

    • just got the card now

      • Bought on Monday night. Just gone into transaction listing only to notice the pizza shop transaction declined. Oops. The card was linked to gpay.

So it's restaurants/bars only it seems, oh and catering at the footy.

        • sometimes it shows as decline but actually went through i found for some cards on gpay

  • I tried kfc and mcas and it didn’t work

    • yes it doesn't work for fast food

  • Tried using via Apple Pay at my local Banh Mi place via Hey You app and it didn’t work. Special gift card did work on the other hand ¯_(ツ)_/¯

    • +2

Your local banh mi place may be set as a bakery with a MCC of 5462. It may also depend how Hey You app is set up to accept payments.

This card can only be used at places with MCC 5812 or 5183 - Eating places and restaurants or Bars, Cocktail Lounges, Discotheques, Nightclubs and Taverns–Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages).

You can check the declined transaction in the TCN app. When you click the transaction, the category box should show what MCC code that merchant is setup as

      • +1

        Category says “PLACEHOLDER”

        • That's weird. Mine shows the 4 digit code. But I guess if it's not 5812 or 5813, then it's expected to be declined

          • @reivaxX: maybe only Android app shows MCC - with Apple, always have PLACEHOLDER

  • +1

Could someone please link me to what people mean by MCC, followed by the codes. Would like to read up more on it

  • Worked at sushi place and Menulog app via Apple Pay

  • Works on the Guzman Y Gomez GYG app as payment

    5812

  • +1

Works at Guzman Y Gomez in-store as payment

    5812

Out in the Yarra valley for a wedding. Our room just got charged to my good food card successfully. Handy saving.

    • So you paid for your accommodation?

      • Yep. It was a winery with onsite accomodation

        • Nice perhaps works for Motels & Resorts, Central Merchant (7011) and Hotels, Caterers (5811), Drinking Places (Alcoholic Beverages), Bars,
Taverns, Cocktail lounges, Nightclubs and Discotheques (5813)

  • So I tried again on menulog using Apple Pay at a different restaurant and it worked . However I’m just thinking which restaurant will do split payment when my card goes down to $5 or lower . Places like kfc and mcas accept split payment, but this card can’t be used there.

    • Some do and some don't

I also found some maccas and hj won't do split card and card … But also some that will as well. But this card can't use at fast food anyway

  • +1

    Thanks for the info!

The digital card worked via tapping/Google Wallet at a local cafe that isn't on the restaurant list.

  • Didn’t work at my local kebab place

  • Can confirm Digital card worked via ApplePay at a restaurant that was not on the list.

    • Yes! I have used that to pay at 2 different restaurants successfully via ApplePay

  • +1

Can also confirmed that it worked in 3 different cafes I have been to since I bought it via ApplePay :-). It is difficult to use the remaining small amount left on the card, so the best is to buy a $500 rather than say 5 x $100 to minimize "wastage".

    • Agreed

These days finding a place that would split cards can be hard

    • Yes, I bought. $300 to see where they work. Obama happy with that now and have just bought a $500 one.

      • Is the deal still valid?

        • I bought mine this morning so they must be out of stock.

  • Does anyone know if the card will require a PIN if the transaction is over $200?

  • I’m not happy with this purchase , so far yeah I have used it at some restaurants on menulog however once my gift card gets down to under $10 , there is no where I can spend this amount without asking for split payment which a lot of restaurant don’t understand and won’t do it.

    • Maybe just buy a coffee here and there? I normally plan my spending when it gets to about $20 left so that I always have < $1 left in the card at the end of my purchases.

    • you should of bought $500 then

  • Asking because I don't see it anywhere.

I have both versions, physical and digital. Is there any way to "load" the physical cards onto the TCN app just like the digital ones? I prefer having them digitally and it frustrates me showing the physical card because restaurants sometimes don't want to accept them.

  • Worked on Doordash (Merchant Code 5812) (via Google Pay) but not Menulog (Merchant Code 5814).

    • +1

Worked on Uber Eats (Merchant code 5812)

    • Menulog always works for me via Apple Pay

      • Yeah, I saw that earlier but it seems that Google Pay is no good.
