Matched at Amazon pre coupon price

    • rather than deal with BL I will opt for Amazon same day delivery thank you!

    • will Watch 5 45mm BT $395 worth? $140 more.

      https://www.amazon.com.au/Samsung-Galaxy-Watch-Bluetooth-Gra…

although it is not sold by amazon AU, and JB wont price match.

    • i remember last year, galaxy watch discounted to $174, is a different model? watch 3?

      • Normal watch 4 44mm

        • classic is better than normal?

I really should have checked watch sizes on my wrist so I could impulsively buy them without regret =/

  • +5

Shame about the poor battery life, but good price for those willing to be close to a charger.

    • yeh that's the only thing from keeping me buying it! any recommendations for something with WearOS that has at least 4 days battery life? I'm also on fitbit and would like to migrate my data across. I'm hoping for some recommendations!

      • +1

        TicWatch or Amazfit

        • +1

          Please no TicWatch

          • @hotphil: Why not?! I just got one lol

            • +2

@cheapass88: Assuming ticwatch pro 3 ultra I hope you have time to return it.

              Off top of my head:

Assistant got broken so it can no longer call or SMS. And its Reminders are broken.

              Random reboots.

Many reports of not withstanding the certified IP68 rating

              Notifications can't be relied on.

It's based on Android 9 so hasn't had security updates for years if that's a concern.

Compass gets disabled first update out the box.

Double-click bottom button got broken in an update (might be fixed now).

Assistant volume sometimes sets to zero.

Have to set phone language to US English for Assistant to even slightly work (so all your temp, distance and weight units on your phone get buggered).

"OK Google" voice detection doesn't work.

Wear OS 3 update not coming too Q3 at earliest (if at all) - 2 years after they said it would. That said, Wear OS 3 removes Google Assistant so at least those bugs go lol.

Apps increasingly withdrawing their apps that will run on Wear OS 2 e.g. Strava. As an indicator of the app ecosystem even Google can't be bothered writing apps eg GMail for their Wear OS.

Very finnicky Calendar/agenda setup if you don't want duplicate reminders.

              Can't change notification tones.

Probably a good few other showstoppers I can't remember right now

              • @hotphil: Thanks for the review! I got just the pro version. To be honest, i just want google pay, steps, heart rate and sleep. I'm happy to turn off everything else.

Can i please ask you a question about your? With essential mode, for the long battery life, i believe it does all that? Except maybe google pay? Is it easy to switch modes so I can make payments?

What are you using now? Or you're just putting up with the ultra for now?

                • @cheapass88: My ultra got replaced under warranty when it simply just died. Second one the gyro/accelerometer or whatever gave up so it wouldn't tilt-to-wake or count steps. So it's in a drawer.

I'd get maybe 4 days with it auto switching to Essential at night and still recording sleep. From memory it's a bit of a faff to find the right combination of menu options in both Settings and the Essential Mode app

If you have a Google around and feel comfortable enough there are guides in disabling some/all the Mobvoi bloat that will extend battery life. But sounds like you want some of it, so be careful.

You may find the Google Fit apps better than the pre-installed Mobvoi ones. Note that they may differ in recorded steps/heart rate though.

Somewhere there's an option to assign Google Pay to the bottom button so a double-click launches straight to Pay which may be useful for you. I'm not sure if that will bring it straight out of Essential mode (even if it does I suspect you'll have to wait for the OS to unsuspend).

Just for the moment I'm using a PineTime which just simply works for what I need (time, long battery life, heart rate check, step counter, reliable notifications, music controls). It's staggering they can do so much with such little hardware power and sell it for $30.

Might grab something with more "smarts" at some point. But haven't researched for a while.

                  • @hotphil: Really appreciate that! It's good to know. Was the replacement warranty claim difficult? Is that why you didn't get the watch replaced again?

                    • @cheapass88: First warranty claim was, from memory, straightforward enough.

Didn't bother with the second failed unit, it's out of warranty. I could go all ACL on them but I don't even want a new one lol.

I will stick in a quick recommendation for Barton silicon watchbands though. I was dubious about paying so much for a watchband, but it is real quality and, imo, worth it.

                      • @hotphil: Would you get it repaired under ACL and i buy it off you? Haha

        • +2

My Amazfit T-Rex 2 battery lasts like 3+ weeks easy, no joke.
That's with wearing it everyday, tracking exercises pretty much every day, sleep tracking, normal use really, all connected to phone via Bluetooth etc.
Love not having to constantly worry about watch battery dieing every other day.
That is coming from a Samsung smart watch user in the past. Never again Samsung. No thank you.

      • +1

        my Garmin lasts 2 weeks…..

      • +1

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro with the bigger battery lasts give or take about 4 days for me.

It also has fast charging so quick top ups go a long way with the 5 series as opposed to the 4 and older.

    • How long the battery last?

      • My 42mm last around 2.5 days with my normal daily use. I think it's not too bad.
It was pretty bad on the first few days when new because I was constantly playing with it. Maybe just 1 day.

        • +1

Methinks all watch (no matter what brand) battery performance are basically the same and how long it lasts depends on how many features are on or off.

          • +1

@pacificstorm: its all about the battery tech. we are using the same tech since dinosaurs age.
human unable to invest new tech.
what they can do is create new chips that have 10% battery efficiencies, 10% extra mah battery (too much then size becomes too big).

and people happy… forgetting the new gadget has new features, better res screen etc which consume 15% more than before. so…..

            • @CyberMurning: Well I used to own a no name smartwatch years ago and it use to last me for a week with no charge needing since I was just basically using it as a normal watch with the bare minimum featues on.

It goes the same way with PC tech. No matter how fast and improved it goes, there will always something be it software or hardware that will exploit it making it yet again, slower like as if its never been improved at all.

So in a nutshell, Tech is basically chasing its own tail endlessly as the Universe is infinite.

Welcome to the Tech world, hope you enjoy your stay. 🤗

              • +1

@pacificstorm: i had probably 5-6 diff. smart watches, lucky able to resell all but one amazfit (but maybei should).
never again. unless we have new battery tech, this thing is useless (unless you want to use bare minimum features, including diff. o/s with less apps like huawei)

                • @CyberMurning: As long as it can easily last 24 hours it's not useless. Put it on charge when you have a shower/poop/wash the dishes and you'll be fine. I'm still using my Apple Watch Series 3 and it still lasts ~2 days and I haven't ever run out of battery during the day.

      • The battery on the Watch5 is larger and combined with the added advantage of the quick charging option, makes for a more compelling purchase. Keep in mind though that power consumption will depend on individual usage patterns, horses for courses.

    • +1

Agree, Samsung watch 5 battery is much better

      • are you sure about that? I had watch 4 44mm BT last year, then upgraded to Watch 5 BT 44mm, and noticed no improvements, if anything it was a bit worse, and slower to charge for me. so I sold watch 5 and got this 4 classic, and I prefer the 4 classic now.

        5 is thicker, too.

        • I had galaxy watch 4 4G and now galaxy watch 5 4G, the difference is day and night. No more charging everyday

          • @BigLeviathan: ahh 4g that's your problem right there. Samsung isn't ready for 4g, just dies too soon. but thanks a lot! means I can pick up a 4g version in generation 6 when they add back the bezel.. for now I'll stick to BT versions :)

  • If anyone finds any deals on the Samsung galaxy watch5 Pro LTE please post. I am waiting for a deal so I can buy.

  • Niche question here. Does anyone successfully use Tidal on this watch?

    • +1

Im using old version galaxy watch 2. Cant really open the tidal app from watch but when you already play a music from your phone you can stop play next previous song. Cant browse song/library/saved

      • Cheers mate, funnily enough I was trying to get it working on a galaxy watch that I think is gen 1 but got very frustrated and gave up! Really only wanted it stand alone so I can run without phone :(

  • any watch recommended for glucose level monitor without needle?

  • I don't need this right? Do people use them for things other than fitness, NFC and getting notifications?

    • +31

Sometimes I look at mine to find out what time it is

      • Must be a new feature with version 4?

      • Somehow I still find myself pulling out my phone to do that despite wearing a smart watch every day for the last like 5 years haha

    • +4

Walking around with Google navigation when travelling so you don't have to hold the phone all the time. It can show the map with directions and vibrate when you're close to a turn.
It can answer calls but the speaker is not very loud so only good for mostly indoor.

In general yes you don't really need it.

      • Thanks mate. I needed to hear this.

      • About 5-6 years ago, Huawei launched talkband .. fitness tracker with hidden in earphone. It was a game changer. Wish they release it again

Edit: they still have it. Talkband B7 (was b2 back then)

    • +2

Google Maps directions are cool, controlling audio/media if your earphones don't have touch controls, checking calendar and to-do lists etc.

Another I like is assistant on my wrist plus the ability to interface with my Google Home products, so turning lights, AC, air purifier and other connected devices on/off.

    • As someone with a terrible memory and complete time blindness, alarms and reminders for EVERYTHING.

    • +1

If you already own a watcha and not into fitness tracking, sleep tracking etc then dont bother. Its a just a dopamine hit you get when you get a parcel. After few days its just another watch in long list of stuff we want but dont need

    • If you referring to general Galaxy Watch, it depends. I recently bought one GW4 because I don't carry my phone around the house and I do lots of hands on house chores and I kept missing important calls. Having GW, it allowed me to pick up calls so no more missed call. Replying messages on SMS and Whatsapp has been helpful as well specially for short messages (I love that mini keyboard….could be me but I had 90% accuracy typing with my finger so it worked for me). Also I have been using Samsung Pay on the GW more now than my phone. I also use silent alarm not to wake others in the room. I don't do sports so the above mentioned alone to me its worth it. I charged it once every 2 days.

Re the sizes, find one that fits your wrist and look good on you.

  • +1

Was 599 is a bit of a ruse… Maybe on release. Watch5 LTE is 599

    • +2

Many watch 5 brand on gumtree. I bought brand new sealed 44mm watch for $250.

      • Yeah me too. I got the LTE version for 250 brand new

  • Tempting to upgrade at this price, but the shorter battery life compared to the original is a dealbreaker for me.

They spoilt us with the ~6 day battery life of the original

  • How would this pair with a non Samsung Android. Ie Poco x3. From what I understand, Samsung health won't work but could get around this by using google fit or strava?

    • Via bluetooth

    • has modified samsung health app

    • Should still be able to configure/tinker with it with the Galaxy Wearable app?

    • Samsung health definitely works with the Poco - I've got an F3! Been rocking a Watch4 since about November last year.

There's some functionality missing which you can get around with a modified APK, but I installed it and realised I never used those features so… I'm running stock, and I'm pretty happy.

This is leagues ahead of the other WearOS 2 watches, and even though it charges slowly, I can get more than a day and half out of it. So, a charge during the morning shower ritual, and everything is ok for another day.

Also, I bought a little USB portable charging thing off of Aliexpress for a few bucks ($8?), it plugs in to any USB A port or you can use a USB-C cable into it. No complaints at all.

  • +3

Got mine for under a hundy second hand and it was LTE

    • wow so lucky! how come ? even at $100 thats ridiculously low price

  • Sapphire crystal display, Titanium body, 2 weeks of battery life same price GT2 pro.

Has its downsides, but does everything I want, pings messages, answer calls, mic is surprisingly good, stores 2gb of music. I've dinged it quite a few times off metal and wear it in work as a tradie and it still looks brand new.

This watch in comparison, will scratch and scuff up easily.

  • +1

I know it's not close to the same feature set, but my Huawei lasts nearly 2 weeks. How do you use sleep tracking etc if your watch is always on the charger?

    • +1

I charge my Galaxy Watch in the morning when taking shower etc., or occasionally when I work at the desk during the day. I am not moving, no reason counting them steps.

during the night I track sleep no issues there. watch has been giving rather valuable insight into my sleep habits and disruptions

      • Fair enough, I only take mine off to shower. If I took it off at work I wouldn't put it back on.

  • I hope they bring back the physical rotating bezel on the 6 series. I have the 5 pro because of the longer battery life but reallyyyy wanted to 4 Classic design.

  • I have a Galaxy Watch. I honestly only ever use the step counter. All the other smart features are unused.

Based on my use I can't recommend a smart watch as my phone is always with me anyway.

    • Which doesn't even work very well if you drive a lot.

      • Yeah my phone also tracks steps so it's sort of redundant anyway.

    • yeah you don't really need a galaxy watch then

I read notifications, sometimes take calls on the watch, check weather etc., also at home the phone is usually somewhere charging or dropped by kids wherever, so I use watch to read notifications, timer, alarms, check weather etc. and "find phone" when it's not in sight.

      • Does Samsung use a woman's voice yelling 'I'm here!' or is that a Huawei exclusive? Scared the shit out of my family.

        • plays jingle bells from Willy Wonka vs Hellraiser

  • Is it a good upgrade from Frontier?

  • +1

Does anyone know if the ECG monitor can work on other phones yet (i.e. Pixel 7 Pro) or limited Galaxy S series only?

    • +1

has modified samsung health app to use on non-samsung phone as far as i know

  • -1

Am I the only one who dislikes the rotating bezel?

    • +1

      statistically no

      • Exactly. I'd say someone at Samsung liked it. Minimum.

  • +1 for this deal even though I ended up buying from Amazon. Up until I saw this deal I had zero desire to buy a smartwatch. Now I'm $269 poorer…. hmm conflicted about my upvote.

    • also it's Amazon! should be easy to return if you want your dollars back. good luck dealing with BL if you change your mind

  • +1

got it from amazon for $ 269 delivered by Saturday

  • Officeworks is matching Amazon, which drops the price to $255 with same day pickup if in store.

  • +1

it's free with phone purchase last week

    • where

  • I think its out of stock on eBay now.

  • +2

For those that missed out on ebayplus, you can use the coupon WELCOME20 on the Bing Lee store, the click and collect

    • Thanks man!! Was able to get watch from Bing Lee store thanks to you 😄

  • Item is back in stock

  • Thanks OP - the lure of C&C tomorrow at a Bing Lee that's 200m away from work was too much to resist.

I had issues adding the eBay item to my cart, but 'Buy It Now' worked and allowed me to choose a store.

    ** Edit: Typo.

  • One week since ordering and still waiting for it to be shipped. Anyone else in the same boat?

    • I bought direct from BL as missed this (for only a few dollars more) and also still waiting for it to ship. The online chat told me that the stock was being transferred from the warehouse to the store, and would then be shipped out from the store. Weird logistics set up there!

      • Finally received shipping notice this morning (advising was being sent from the warehouse, so as per the comment below, the info I received re being sent to the store wasn't accurate).
