    This is the way.

    Book smaller than GPU

  • Which card is better playing at 1440P? this card or an RTX 3070Ti 8GB?

    • +13

This as it has more VRAM. 6800XT will be relevant for longer

    • +13

Well, the 6800 xt is superior — it's a competitor to the 3080/4070 in rasterisation, and there's the whole vram pile of worms as well.

That said, I probably wouldn't bite unless you're desperate. It's been cheaper before, and at the rate we're going the 4070 will be near this price soon, which is a better card overall (if barely). Not to mention the 7800xt should hopefully surface in the next few months.

    • +8

This competes against the 3080 10G. The biggest bottleneck for the 3070ti is having only 8GB of RAM. Have a look at Hardware Unboxed as to how big a bottlneck the 8gb of VRAM has now become for the 3070 series.

      • Fully agree, I regret mine.

    • +5

6800xt is a better choice hands down.

Pretty sad that 2 years and 5 months after release we are only saving ~$210 off the AU$1,049 RRP. (20%)

Whatever happened to all those super cheap GPUs everyone was claiming were coming after GPU crypto mining died off?

    • +11

morons kept buying them at inflated prices anyway even after the mining boom so the prices never bottomed

      • +5

What do you expect? Patient and measured consumerism?

      • +1

..I was about to say this lol

Appears those morons are thinning out now thankfully

    • welcome to econs 102, price (in)elasticity.

I rather wait for the price of RX 7900XT 20GB to reduce to $1100-1200 range. As I am upgrading from RTX 3070 TI.

    • Given it’s $1,299.. that’s not far off. I’m in the same boat as you, except upgrading from a non TI 3070.
NVIDIA is not generous with RAM in their pricing scheme

  • Still hodling. Don't want to feel like a chump when they drop the price even further. While this would be a good upgrade from my Savage 4 Xtreme, I think I can wait it out for the 7900XT.

  • +3

Lol this is still $50 more than it should've cost almost 3 years ago.

Is this a decent upgrade from a 5700? I have an ultra wide 1440p monitor and want to play Hogwarts Legacy but I feel the 5700 won't do well

    • +4

It is a decent upgrade, but if you can save a little longer and go a 7900xt you'll probably be glad you did. Prices are falling so it doesn't look like you'll lose money by waiting a little longer

    • +1

I also have a 5700 and finished Hogwarts with settings at medium. It was very enjoyable! Give it a go; the detailing and whimsy shine through even without high or ultra graphical settings.

The 6900 xt has been down to $909, this doesn't seem like a good deal considering how old it is..

  • Good price. This is close to what they go for second hand in my experience, not to mention 6800XT’s are getting harder to find.

    • +3

Idk, I've seen 6900 xt as low as $750 on used market

      • That’s a great price. Depends where you live though, I’d be surprised if you saw them that cheap in melb or Sydney.

        • Actually im in melb, ever since 40 series and 7000 series they dropped from $1k to $750-800. Idk if that is consistent with syd

I bought this for $100 less 2nd hand a year ago. Goes hard on my g9. Would be even better on smaller monitors.
