So what's the real difference this and a regular OLED model switch?

If it doesn't come with the game, is it simply a fancy looking Zelda branded Switch?

    • +19

      Correcto

    • +16

Yeah, it's even more of a rip off than the regular OLED.

Even if it came with the game, which it should, it's still a rip off.

      • +4

And yet, people still keep on buying them.

        • -7

          Well excuseeeeeeee meeeee

        • +3

I got all the Zelda 3DS editions, at the time for $289, and now they go for $700-$1,500 on eBay.

This will skyrocket in value in the future.

          • +1

@RocketSwitch: Of course it will because Nintendo.

          • @RocketSwitch: Exactly. Check out the ozbargain deals from years ago for those limited 3DS models, similar comments. Now they're hard to get and people will pay a pretty penny for one especially in 'new' condition in the box

e.g. this one for Majora's Mask edition, how many comments complained about the lack of a charger. I get why they complained because it was only starting to become a thing back then with phones as well, but people had no idea how much these would be worth years later: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/204168

          • @RocketSwitch: How many 3ds ones were there?

          • @RocketSwitch: I've always wondered if people actually buy at that price. Especially in AU where the market is significantly smaller than US.

            • @tightandcheap: They do. I have had some really rare games that have gone for over $300 on Marketplace, that I got for like $10 back in the day for Wii U/GC. Lots of my 3DS games now go for a lot.

In terms of systems, I haven't sold any of mine, as I like them. I watched a few on eBay that sold for just slightly under those prices.

      • I'm very happy with my oled switch. Use it all the time and enjoy it

        • It is actually pretty great. So much of an upgrade if you use it in handheld

    • +3

It's bulltwang that it doesn't come with the game

      • +1

With $60 off on this deal you can almost buy the game now … But agree scummy Nintendoh practice

    • That's all it needs to be. Nintendo sold over 8 million Switches in the last quarter of 2022. They could make them in just poo brown colour at this price and it'd still sell well.

      • +1

        Perhaps baby poo green

        • Isn't it called baby green crap?

  • I'm pretty salty I got an OLED switch from three brothers that arrived today for $426, but it arrived with a UK charger. I'd take this one for the surcharge.

    • Could probably return for refund if it wasn't advertised as a UK version.

      • Yeah that's a stupidly annoying process. Meanwhile I've spent like $300 on games and peripherals.

I've asked them today for a remedy, yet to hear back.

      • +1

Update on this, I'll be returning it.

After looking into Nintendo Australia's policy on grey imports, I won't have warranty, so yeah nah.

  • +7

I've resisted buying a Switch this long - why not wait for the next gen?

    • +1

I feel like this will be a double release on new switch and old

    • +4

And then when the next gen comes out you're going to wait again for the next gen after?

      Geez, it's been 6 years.

Imagine all the games you've missed out on so far.

Just buy it used it and when you upgrade to the next one sell it off.

      • -5

To be fair there's only a few switch exclusives worth anyone's time. Zelda doesn't count since it was on Wii U too

    • +1

I lost the fight, mine arrived today. I've already spent like $300 on games and a pro controller. I think you should HODL for the sake of your bank account.

      • +2

Yeah it’s a bit of a rabbit hole with the switch. Quickly goes from “I can spare $500” to dropping 2 grand on games and accessories

        • Yeah I'm basically screwed at this point. Nintendo got me

        • The bootleg Pro controllers on Ali Express are surprisingly good. I bought 2. I use them on both my Switch and PC.

      • @XxBargainHuntaxX

You are are still in early stages

$10k + here and counting on games alone (not including controllers, accessories or multiple consoles) lol

        Someone please help me……

        • Are you playing all the games you buy?? Or collecting as well?

          • @Emblex: I try to play my games where possible but also collect.
            Maybe about 30% I've played.

Also have a very extensive DS/3DS, Gamecube, Wii U and Gameboy collection.

But the constant Amazon, eBay and retail details, it's hard to resist buying.

And then those freaking limited editions just keep coming.

            • @SpeedRunnerLink: What would you say are the rarest/highest value games in your collection?

              • @gtazn: Switch wise or anything?

                • @SpeedRunnerLink: Out of everything.

                  • @gtazn: Well my Gamecube stuff used to be most expensive/rare but now the 3DS stuff has gone bonkers

For example my Yo Kai Watch 3, Fire Emblem Fates limited set and Shin Megami Games have shot through the roof.

                    • @SpeedRunnerLink: Damn, you weren't kidding! I guess that's what happens when the 3DS eShop shuts down.

                      • @gtazn: Yeah. E shop shut down and 3DS games are hard to port over to another console as it's quite unique (touch screen, dual screen, 3D effect)

So it's a console that will most likely have its games stuck there.

And even if they do a remake of a 3DS game, it's not going to be the same at all. Unlike the Gamecube which can be ported quite easily for most titles.

Wii U stuff will hold some value too as it played with the gamepad and TV screen at the same time which is quite unique to that console.

    • Yeah, this should be $450 by now

  • for some reason my code makes it 503.95, but i don't have enough 10% ebay gift card. even i do have it's just $10 cheaper than my current preorder with discount gift card. considering day one pickup or day 2?3?4? delivery, i'd pay extra $10.

    • +2

And Gamesmen package their stuff up really well compared to Amazon.

      • My experience has been largely the same, the last time I bought a controller from the Gamesmen it came it a padded bag.

  • +2

Disappointing it doesn't come with the game but i don't see them changing that policy, ever.

    • +1

I mean if you're going to buy a Zelda themed Switch you're probably going to buy the game anyway.

      • Or have the game already pre ordered as soon as you could…

  • +3

$503.95 if you have this targeted code.

Edit: Something else to note is that the past eBay Plus Tuesday OLED deals were done with Big W who no longer sells on eBay, so unless they team up with someone else it's probably not going to happen.

    • Same for me

    • +2

Big W eBay is back on 23 April per this comment

      • Oh shiiii…

        • Oh man I must hold

      • Just confirmed with bigw eBay account.

        "Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, we have permanently closed our Big W ebay store.
You can still shop your favourite brands and ranges through our Big W website: https://www.bigw.com.au"

    • I have the $60 off deal too… am now getting more tempted as I’ve been holding thinking I’ll grab it later in the year at a nicer price point but ~$500 is not too shabby to square one away.

Or wait and see what Big-dubs brings to the party…

EDIT: Checked some other deals from last six or so months. Will wait. Reckon will definitely be obtainable in the four hundreds. Whether we see a sub-$400 again on a special edition I’m not sure.

  • +2

Looking forward to playing Tears of the Kingdom on Yuzu.

    • +1

Graphical bugs take time to iron out. Even Wii U games still have unsolved bugs

    • I still have this and the limited edition game ordered to play through the first time. But will definitely be playing again in the future, hopefully by then we get closer to Cemu type performance since even now BoTW isn't that great on Yuzu compared to the Wii U version on Cemu.

      • Just replaying it on CEMU yesterday, with graphical tweaks it looks and runs great!

        • Agreed, it's really the best way to play it! Recommend it to all of those on here apparently buying those new PC deals, put those modern CPU and GPUs to good use ;)

          • @zaprct: there's something special about portable stop and go play. and yea, steam deck can do that but steam deck docked on 800p is a bit meh

    • Ryujinx is the way now

      • So it is better now?

  • -1

    What a rip off.

  • Still have the first gen Switch forever docked to oled tv hidden away. I don't see a lot of people in public with limited edition switch.

  • only if they include the game

    • Games haven't been included in special edition nintendo consoles for quite a while.
I think the only recent exception is the super mario odyssey special edition console that got re-released or whatever.

  • -1

How is this not a scam on nintendo's part. To not include the game, and to be peddling a premium Switch with an unofficial ETA of the Switch 2 to be next year or as early as late this year.

    • unofficial

There's your key word right there.

      • -1

Yes, mate. That's why I used the word.

    • -1

      To not include the game

Nintendo has not included the game with special edition consoles for many many years.
The exception being the recent mario odyssey console re-release.

and to be peddling a premium Switch with an unofficial ETA of the Switch 2

There has been no official announcement.
And people have been claiming rumors of a "switch pro" or "switch 2" since basically the launch of the switch.

      • +1

When a Switch successor does get announced, watch people gloat about how they "predicted" it.

        • Yeah, its always funny.
Like, no shit new hardware/consoles are inevitable, but saying "its rumoured this year" every year for half a decade isn't predicting anything.

      • -1

claiming rumors of a "switch pro" or "switch 2" since basically the launch of the switch

no one has been claiming that. But you'd be ignorant to suggest the switch isn't approaching the end of its lifecycle.

        • Clearly you're (profanity) clueless then.
People said it well before the switch oled was a thing.
They've been claiming "upgraded internals" for years now.

          • -1

@[Deactivated]: Are you going to wait to see a new console at big W before you accept there's a new Nintendo console on the horizon. Go ahead and buy the premium switch today then. That will show the imaginary people in your head.

            • @Gal: Of course theres going to be a new console.
They're not going to sell the switch for a century.

As Guybrush57 said, and I know you read it because you disliked it:
"When a Switch successor does get announced, watch people gloat about how they "predicted" it."

And I said (which you also disliked):
              "Yeah, its always funny.
Like, no shit new hardware/consoles are inevitable, but saying "its rumoured this year" every year for half a decade isn't predicting anything."

But saying "xyz is just around the corner" when you have literally no evidence to back it up is ridiculous.

I never said I was buying the console.
But just because YOU don't see the value in it, doesn't mean others dont.
And if I lived my life always worried about the "next thing", I wouldn't own anything.

  • +2

    Thanks OP!
    Got it for $503.95!
Will save $46 and cancel Amazon preorder!

    • Damn shame the Amazon price preorder guarantee guarantees they won't match this cheaper price.

      • Ahh I didnt even think of asking amazon to match it
Did you try to ask Amazon?

        • +1

They wouldn't match anything on eBay for starters, and certainly wouldn't match a price in which a coupon is required like this deal.

  • I’ll wait for it to hit under $500 then use codes ;)

  • Absolutely lame not including the game, and sort sighted. Many people have very strong connections to whatever the bundled game was with their SNES/Mega Drive/N64/etc. Just feels like profiteering.

    • Absolutely lame not including the game, and sort sighted.

They've been doing it for years with a few select exceptions.
Clearly not short sighted if its working.

Many people have very strong connections to whatever the bundled game was with their SNES/Mega Drive/N64/etc.

Nintendo has changed how it operates to maximize profits, who woulda guessed.

      Just feels like profiteering.

So…doing what basically every large business does?
Of course they're trying to profit as much as they can. They continue to do this because it works.
Exact same reason games are riddled with $20 cosmetics and battle passes that end every few months.

      • None of which means it's not lame or short sighted.

        • I'm sure you know far better than the company worth over 50,000,000,000 USD
Especially when they've been doing this "game not included" special edition thing for years without issue.

  • Has anyone’s shipped yet…?

    • Don’t worry. For some reason I thought release was earlier in AU like overseas but I was wrong.
