Ex : I booked :

Model : Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Petrol Highlander
Booked on : 15 Mar 2023
Wait time : 3-6 Months

Dealer called me yesterday to ask if I was interested in a non sun roof version of the same car for shorter wait time(may be next few weeks delivery) for $1500 lesser.

I didn't accept the dealer's offer.

        • Oh nice. I had the opportunity to chat to these guys about the bike and it sounds like a great piece of kit. Reasonable prices and interesting styling

  • -6

I got mine within 7 days, but that was 16 years ago.

  • +3

What is it with sunroofs?I have had quite of cars with them, nothing to rave about.

    • +4

They all suck, either they leak, or are noisy or let too much sun in

      • +6

Mine never leaked and I had it for ten years.

        let too much sun in

Well, yes, that is the point of a sunroof.

      • Doesn't warranty cover problems like leaks?

        • That's great. But warranty runs out eventually and you are up for any future fixes.

    • +5

I love my sunroof. That's why I spent $44K on a Corolla, just so I could have a sunroof. Closest I can get to a convertible. Don't need to open windows (where you cop wind in your face) when you have a sunroof.

      • -1

Whoa, that's a cheap EV budget right there, and you'd never need fuel again. Not interested in the MG ZS EV or BYD Atto 3? Might even get a small rebate depending on state incentives. https://www.racv.com.au/royalauto/transport/electric-vehicle…

        • +5

Not enough infrastructure. Maybe in a decade.

          Also MG? No thank you.

          • @kerfuffle: No home charging options, or too many road trips? We charge in public only for convenience, majority at home overnight on a super offpeak tariff from midnight to 4am weekdays, costing 8.7c/kwh. Costs about $5 at most charging over two nights at that rate.

            • +3

@JownehFixIT: Not enough infrastructure. Broken chargers too in public.

Nor do I want a SUV

              • @kerfuffle: Plenty of broken public chargers for sure. It's like companies happily install them, then provide apparently no support afterwards.

Fair enough. For some reason I pictured a Corolla as similar form factor :D

                • @JownehFixIT: I don't get how people break them

                  • +1

@serpserpserp: Vandalism/ICEholing, possibly pin damage from bad insertion or overstretching, overloading, being backed into or the cable run over- similar to bowser issues I'd say, though I'd imagine networking issues for the operators is the biggest one. That being said I've never seen any of those in areas I frequent being out of order, though a few reports of broken ones in plugshare, mainly BP or smaller operators. At a very quick glance, BYO cable ones seem to have less breakdowns? Correct me if I'm wrong- I'm also trying to work out whether its worth bothering getting a type-2 to type-2 cable initially (for the occasional longer distance runs, will charge at home 98% of the time really).

                    • +1

@seannami: Type 2 to type 2 cable is only for destination/AC chargers that don’t have a cable. I have a cable, but so far have only come across one charging station that required it.

For long distance runs, you will probably rely more on DC fast chargers, as destination chargers are only really good if you plan on being somewhere overnight or at least for a few hours.

                      • @pegaxs: Thanks Pegaxs. The "long trips" for me are likely to be things like Melbourne>Shepparton/Bendigo/Ballarat so rather than needing several charging stops, I'd be parked for work most the day (maybe leaving car and riding bike to sites), so destination charging might be an option since I would just need to get home. Plug share suggests a number of the chargers in Bendigo at least are BYO type 2. Then again, they just make regional trains cap at $10, so cost could be a consideration if I do end up on the 40c/KwH chargers.

A few local chargers are the Chargefox BYO ones (not that I will need to charge locally), which made me think they were a bit more common in general.

                        • +1

@seannami: I wouldn't bother with charging in Ballarat, it's only 120km out there from Melb (240km round trip). Most modern EV's would easily get out there and back on a single charge.

Melb to Bendigo would be borderline for some cars, but at a 300~320km round trip, I would probably risk it, and at worst, you could just use one of the DC chargers in town and 10 mins would be more than enough to give you some breathing space on the return leg.

Shepparton on the other hand, You would be wise to top off before returning, and again, it would only be a 10 to 35 mins stop (depending on vehicle) at a DC charger, enough to get you topped up with a buffer and then home. So, even at a $0.60c/kW super charger, you would be looking at maybe $5…

AC chargers are good if you can connect to them all day/night and they are convenient to your location. If you have to park and then Uber/cab/train it to your worksite… you are doing it wrong. If you have to walk 20 mins from the charging site to your work, again, you're doing it wrong. If where you are working has a destination charger (ie: shopping centre) or there is one 2~5 mins walk away, have at it if you are going to be there for a whole work day.

But yes, by all means, get a cable. You never know when you are going to need it. And just get a 22kW/32A 3 phase cable. It will work for all cars that way and you will future proof yourself on future purchases, as the cable is going to outlast any cars you have.

                          • +1

@pegaxs: Thank you for the advice, much appreciated! :)

Model : Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Petrol Highlander
    Booked on : 15 Mar 2023
    Wait time : 3-6 Months

What? Really? I had one within 4 weeks (it was on the boat at the time of ordering and just so happened to be assigned to the dealer).

Dealer called me yesterday to ask if I was interested in a non sun roof version of the same car for shorter wait time(may be next few weeks delivery) for $1500 lesser.

Oh you want one with a sunroof, that explains the wait time. Honestly, my wife and I had a car with a sunroof (it was a moon roof one) in the past and used it sometimes but not all the time, I don't see the value in it to be honest. We now have a Tucson and its fine without the sunroof.

    Hyundai Tucson 2.0 Petrol Highlander

Good choice, I would've gone Diesel but Petrol is good. We have the N-Line Elite and it's great.

  • We had had a 5 month wait for a Huyunai Kona Highlander and it was supposed to arrive in May, but it it came last week. So a month early.

  • -8

Also include price so we can laugh at you

  • Interesting to note I saw a heap of BYD atto on back of vehicle carriers semi trailers being driven past my workplace this week.

    • +1

Could be one of theirs who ordered above. 😊

  • +1

Interesting to see the various wait times with some of the models mentioned.

I am in the market in buying a new family car, looking at the Sportage. There's a website that gives estimated wait times based on model of vehicle you enter but not the grade level so its more of an average based on the nameplate.

    If anyone's interested:

    https://pricemycar.com.au/delivery-dates

    • +2

Those wait times are way off. There are plenty of other websites quoting similar waiting times but all the comments beneath are saying the wait times are way longer. People have been waiting 12-18 months for Sportage. The wait times vary depending on engine and trim, GT diesel has longest wait times, all the dealers I spoke to last week said “at least 12 months for GT Diesel, but no guarantee even with that”. You can get a lesser trim in petrol (DCT or Auto) sooner but make sure you test drive them before taking the plunge. I found the dual clutch un-drivable in city traffic ( unresponsive from a stop start and then jerks with a delayed reaction), the 2WD just a bit too weak at higher speeds or uphill. If you are primarily country driving the DCT might suit your needs but test drive first
In the end I rang every dealer within 2 hrs and was able to jump on a cancelled order for SX+ Diesel, the original people abandoned after too long of a wait time. Order was originally placed 8 months ago, I’ve been given a guesstimate of 6ish more months, but again, still no guarantee and still no build date confirmed.
Essentially Kia Aust have no visibility or communication from Kia SK so current wait times are based on nothing.
Similarly I rang my local Toyota and asked about any availability of any RAV4 variants “2-3 year’s MINIMUM is all I can tell you”

  • +8

    I drive a 2008 Camry :)

    • you winner

    • With the Sat-Nag Wi-fee?

  • Model : Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid AWD 2023
    Booked on : 31-DEC-2022
    Wait time : 12-18 Months

Hoping it will be the new shape by the time I get this car lol

    • +2

subject to price jack upon delivery ?

      • Yep already one jack since putting down deposit

        • Just bought 2020 version because of the wait times. Existing car is failing (Subaru diesel….thanks DPF)

    • +2

Model : Toyota RAV4 XSE Hybrid AWD 2022
      Booked on : MARCH-2022
Wait time : Still waiting :)

Will likely buy a Tesla M3 or BYD

      • Will certainly but a Model X

      • has Toyota given you an ETA on the car? is it in production

        • Negative, actually was given 4-6 months estimate when I bought but the car, it was only just released and they didn't have a big backlog on this variant.

Called a few months ago and they had no idea so didn't push it.

    • +1

Model: Toyota RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid AWD
      Ordered: Feb 2022
Wait time: non-committal at order. Dealer is estimating Q4-23 at this stage.

Ordered at a stupidly low price ($50k with accessories, now + $2,450 for the '23 spec update and GPI protection vs $59k RRP now) so will wait it out.

Originally ordered it to replace a 2021 of the same thing (wanted the height adjustment on the passenger seat, and wasn't likely to lose money on the changeover because of the stupidly high 2nd hand market). Ended up getting a Model Y in the interim, and will decide what to do with the RAV4 when/if it comes.

      • Does your Rav have an actual ETA date from the dealer? Is the car in production?

        • +1

Estimate only. Dealer is non-committal (rightly so) to a firm ETA until production is confirmed.

Dealers generally only find out what cars get built around the 20th of the month before

          • @ol mate: mine has CBU Port/Plant ETA start of May and Dealer ETA date start of June. Dealer has said they expect the car to be in, end of May to start of June. Is this believable? Status is in Production and B02 at sea

            • @boostpak: Given all the bugs and cleaning that need to happen with cars entering ports at the moment, it's probably only a best estimate until it has passed quarantine.

  • +1

Generally how long does it take from when the car is built to when it reaches our shores? 1 month?

    • +5

Depends where it's built. Europe: 2 to 3 months. Asia: 1 month.

      That's been my experience.

      • You mean start of build date to delivery to customer ?

  • +4

My Hyundai was unloaded on March 9 in Melbourne, still waiting to clear quarantine.

    • When did you book it? and Did the dealer call and inform you that its arrived in the Melb port(just wanted to know if there is some sort of tracking :D)

      • I bought it in late January, it was taking over someone else's order so it was already built.

    • +2

Cars are delayed as they have stink bugs and need to be sanitised. It delays them by 2 weeks once they have docked.

      • +2

at minimum, these delays stack, unfortunately

    • How do you know it is in Melb? Are you just going by the Port date? Or dealers info?

  • +5

    Model : Honda Civic Type R 2023
    Booked on : 01-Feb-2022
Wait time : Early 2024 (Hopefully)

Haven't even been able to test drive one due to demo models going to buyers supposedly.

  • +3

    Model : Toyota Corolla GR
    Booked on : 01-June-2022
Wait time : LOL. Possibly never.

    • A friend booked Corolla in Feb 2022. Still waiting

      • A friend booked the Corolla hybrid back in Sep/22. They like to get after Jul/23 (was promised in Mar).

  • Model: MG ZST Excite
    Booked: March 2023
    Wait time: 2 weeks

    Nice and easy

  • Model: Mazda CX30 Touring with Vision Pack
    Booked: 5 April 2023
    Wait time: 4 - 6 months. Estimated Delivery 31 Oct 2023

Salesman said wait time was longer because we selected Vision Pack option and that made it a factory order. I think that was probably sales BS. I thought it was going to be about 3 months but I was happy with the deal so signed on the dotted line.

    • Nah sounds pretty reasonable. Bought a Mazda 3 2021 with vision pack and took about 3.5 months before it arrived. Likely expect a longer wait nowadays. 360 camera worth waiting a bit longer for.

  • +2

Subaru Forester Ordered 28th Feb,picked up 4th April

  • We ordered the RAV4 Cruiser Hybrid AWD back in Sep 2021 and we were informed that we might get the car in June this year.

    • +1

2 years wait for a toyota..must be an exciting toyota

      • +1

At my workplace one particular role gets given a vehicle as part of their package. They get to choose from a whole bunch of different vehicles of which the RAV4 Hybrid is one of them. One particular guy ordered one when he started the job in 2020 and only just received the car last week.

  • Model: Ford Ranger Wildtrack V6
    Booked: January 2023
    Wait Time: 10 - 12 Months

    • A mate paid a car broker $2k back in November, and got a "cancelled" one within 2 weeks. I think he said you gotta be flexible on your options (like colour, ec).

      • Yeah we went standard colour without any extras. Apparently the wait is on the V6 model.

  • +2

    Model: Kia Cerato GT Hatch
Booking Date: 1st of March 23
    Wait times: 6 - 7 months, Expected Sep 23

  • +1

    Hyundai i30.
Ordered last week and it should arrive may 11th.
Only because they pulled a car from their government order. If I wanted red or blue it was only a 2 week wait but I wanted white.

    Model : Toyota Landcruiser
    Booked on : Aug-2022
Wait time : haha 1 to 4 years, maybe never…

    • +1

      LC70? Good luck :P

  • +1

Placed deposit for an MG4 in Dec 2022. Dealer said 1H 2023 delivery but now seems to be Oct 2023 at earliest.

    • +1

MG4? Pre-orders have not even opened, so how did you order in Dec last year?

      • A few dealers were taking deposits in December- Essendon MG in Vic was one, a friend and I did a test drive out there and they told us then. No deposit down as we're on NVL, but friend is on the list.

  • +2

    Model : Ford Everest Platinum
    Booking Date : 10/01/2023
Wait times : Min 12 month.

Apparently the v6 model with tow pack has the longest wait times, as there is quite some electronics coming with the tow package.
(Brake Controller, Blind Spot Monitor to account for trailer, …. ). Read on facebook that some greedy dealers are asking $15K
above RRP for Demo vehicles that are available now..

    • We ordered the Everest Sport in Dec, V6 with the tow pack. Minimum 12 months wait. At least the dealer said our price is locked in and we won't have to pay any price increases.

Looked at a Isuzu mux demo that was $25k above RRP. And they said it would sell for sure. Lol

    • +1

Have you tried calling around, particularly regional dealerships?

I ordered my Platinum with tow pack back in August 2022, and received it in October 2022. I got lucky with a regional dealership 3 hours outside of Perth that have one last unallocated Everest left and it happened to have the colour and tow pack I wanted. Essentially got one of the first shipments I imagine it's no longer possible to get one with 2 months wait, but from what I know each dealership has a pre-set allocation from Ford. Whilst metro dealerships may have a bigger allocation, they may also have many more sales and that could blow out the wait times. Demand of the Platinum also seems to be less than the very popular Sport, so you may get lucky elsewhere.

Either way, it is worth the wait! Besides some very minor electronic bugs which will eventually be fixed via software update, it's been a dream to drive both onroad and offroad.

  • -1

wait time on my new car is very very long.

  • Booked my Hilux on Jan 4. They said 6 - 12 month wait. Is being built as we speak. Late May delivery.

  • +2

    Model: MG ZSEV
    Ordered: Sept 2022
    Delivery: Jan 2023

Initially was told about 2 months or 3 at most. Should never trust dealer. But got a free color upgrade and the vehicle was delivered just before the price bump. So overall, very happy

    • +1

How are you liking the car in general? I assume its a facelift model rather than black grill? I was told 2-3 months, half way through month 3 now.

      • +1

Yeah it is the facelift one. I love the car, i dont have another ev to compare with but compare to ICE, it is so much better. Best part is that it costs me like $60-$80 to charge the car for over 2000km. It would cost me $300 if i drove a petrol car.

      • I suggest you hassle the dealer as much as possible.

        • Yeah, I'll call them Monday or Tuesday 'to check if they got the plates' (should do that anyway, it's an heirloom plate number and the receptionist I gave them to was new- don't want them on some random car!). It through their fleet section so the contact person isn't in weekends.

You don't happen to know if the little spoiler/wind deflector is plastic under the paint and whether it's part of the boot lid frame do you? trying to work out if it would work with a strap on bike rack.

I am very much ready to not have to go near a petrol bowser again! Not so much looking forward to the Victoria tax.

          • +3

            @seannami: Yeah i don't know about that.

The ev surcharge is being challenged in Supreme Court. Hopefully it will be successful, such a dumb tax.

  • +1

    BYD Atto 3 Extended Range
    Deposit Jan 2023
    Expected May-June

  • Model: Toyota Landcruiser Prado GXL
    Order : Feb 2023
    Delivery : June 2023
Not sure why I have my confirmed delivery for the Toyota Landcruiser Prado this fast as at the time of putting my deposit, I got told to wait 14 months on it.

    • Flat tailgate or normal?

      • Normal one

        • +1

Hmm that is odd! Maybe a fall-over deal? We had a bunch of flat tailgate optioned cars get built pretty quickly for some reason

  • Model: Merc GLC43 AMG
    Ordered: March 2023
    Delivery: May 2023

There is one ready in April, however, I opt for May delivery for the specs

    • What's the damage on a GLC43?
Did you get much of a discount?

      • 129k final price- $7k off from online promo. ( this model gets the digital dash)
127k only comes with Analog Dash, -

      • Did you get much of a discount?

MB are fixed price (excluding their own deals they offer). No negotiation

        • +1

then again, Toyota felt like fixed pricing too when i ordered my Rav lol

  • +2

Model: Mazda 3 G25 Evolve SP Manual
    Ordered: Late January 2023
Delivery: Expected first week of May, it has been built and is on a ship.

I prioritised price over delivery time. When I visited a dealer in late September 2022 when I was still deciding on what to buy the dealer quoted an arrival of mid November.

    • Nice choice. This was on my shortlist. Lucky you got in before they got discontinued.

  • +1

    Model: Lexus NX350H
    Booked: July 2022
Wait times: up to 24 months depending on variant but ours is due in a week or two so total wait will be approximately 9 months

    • what the hell… we ordered the nx 350h in may 2022 last year, was told 18 months. dealer can confirm if they will hit that date. we ordered from blackburn in melbourne

      • I ordered from Sydney City Lexus who probably have a larger allocation of new cars. Which variant are you getting? I was told the higher spec models are taking longer. We are getting the base model AWD with enhancement pack.

        • we ordered 350h sports luxury 2wd. yes i have also heard that. annoying, but good for you and very exciting!
