eBay Group Deal - Canon EOS 5D Mark III for $2857 Delivered

170

To get a brand new 5D MkIII under $3K delivered is a pretty good deal, IMHO…

eBay seller is based in Taiwan, which means that the 5D MkIII is likely to be a grey import, but the seller has a 99.9% feedback rating, and in the T&C, it states this regarding warranty, which is pretty decent, I reckon:
• 12 months Australian Store Warranty
Buyers can return the product to our Sydney location for warranty services. The warranty repair will be undertaken by Canon and not third party individuals.
• 24 hour DOA warranty
If any manufacture faults been discovered within 24 hours of arrival, buyers are required to inform us within the 24-hour period. Please note that malfunctions need to be assessed and confirmed via email or other means in accordance to the nature of the claim. We reserve the right to reject claims as a result of improper utilization or misunderstanding of the device. Please follow the manual instructions properly or inquire about this product when problem arises. Once DOA has been confirmed, a brand new replacement and transportation costs (back and forth) will be covered by us (qd_au / Quality Deals LTD).
• 7 days satisfactions period
We greatly respect consumer rights. All purchases are covered by our 7-day satisfactions guarantee policy. Buyers have the right to return their purchase for a full refund within 7 calendar days of item arrival. Please note that returns can only be accepted if item is packaged in its original brand new, clean and/or sealed condition.
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Wish I was in the market for one…

  • Did they ever solve the light leak issues?
the last i heard Canon said 'yeah, put some tape on it' and that was it.

    • Yea it's fixed.

Guess what, chances are you if open up any other DSLR, regardless of make, it will be covered in industry standard electrical shielding tape too.

      Funny that.

      • how did they fix it since it was a hardware issue?

        • +1

          Gaffer tape. Seriously.

        • Yeah I heard it was tape! So that means the issue isn't really fixed until a new batch has been made.

    Including taxes?

    • Good question; wonder if it gets shipped directly from Taiwan or will be mass shipped across and sent out individually from Australia?

    • +1

yeah cause your going to be up import duties (and GST?)

    • Sorry, can't answer that, though I should imagine that the price quoted would be the total price, right? It would suck if buyers need to pay the GST on it, which would make it not such a good deal after all…

Just got a reply from the seller:

        Hi,

        Thank you for your inquiry.

We will send this item from HK
warehouse directly and we ensure you don't have to pay for any import tax.
If you receive any contact regarding the customs tax, please ignore it and
contact us. We will ask our broker to handle the customs duty and have it
        charged to our account.

Should you have further questions, please do not
        hesitate to contact us.

  • great deal, I want it but abit short in cash at the moment. hope a similar deal in the next two months.:)

  • I bought a lens from this seller before and realised i bought for the wrong mount. The seller happily accepted the item back and provided full refund. It's one of that rare good buying experience from ebay.
It's weird, the last time, i sent the item back to a Sydney address.

  • Good Luck getting Canon Australia to provide warranty on grey imports! That can apply to all items but risking a few hundred vs. a few thousand??

    • Canon Australia won't repair DSLR items under any international warranty now.

    • Given their T&Cs state:

      • 12 months Australian Store Warranty
Buyers can return the product to our Sydney location for warranty services. The warranty repair will be undertaken by Canon and not third party individuals.

Then even if Canon insist that they are not covered; then it would mean that the vendor would have to cover any warranty costs

      • they possibly send it back OS to cannon Taiwan, so they cover the shipping etc which is good, but probably means a few weeks on top of the repair time.

      • Plus, DWI haven't had the best of run recently, they've left many unhappy customers in their wake as of late…

  • Haven't seen anyone say "bought one, not sure why!" to this "bargain" though.

  • hmm the nikon D600 should be out in the next couple of months and promises to be a fairly reasonably priced full frame…
will be an interesting camera….2k8 for this seems a bit above my budget, no matter how great it is…so will be interesting to see the d600.

    • The D600 does sound interesting - but potentially a bit gimped so it doesn't detract from D800 sales too much? It doesn't look like the body with have an internal AF motor - which is a bit strange.

      • so you think it would be a manual focus??? cant imagine that would be the case?
specially with all the AF points?

        • It means that the lenses have to have a AF motor in them if you want to use auto focus. I'm not a Nikon user so I really don't know enough about the lens lineup to say if it's a major sticking point or not. All I know is it seems a bit weird for a full frame camera (albeit a cheap one) to not have an in-body AF motor and it makes me wonder what other stuff they are planning to leave out of it in order to squeeze it into a odd space in the market (budget full frame cameras).

        • Looks like it does have a inbuilt focus motor :)

  • Has anyone got their camera?
