Great deal on the S5 Max, lowest it’s been for a while. I have had mine for over 2 years, the wife still loves it (that's what she said?)

How does it compare to the S7?
Unsure, haven't tried the S7. Here is a comparison
https://www.bestcordlessvacuumguide.com/roborock-s7-vs-s6-ma…We have both (one in my parents' place). In terms of what I actually notice (as opposed to the on-paper advantages), the s7:
- has a mop pad that raises 5mm so it doesn't wet your carpet (though I found this was never an issue with the s5 Max)
- that mop pad also vibrates, so theoretically the agitation cleans better than the s5 that simply wipes the pad over the floor
- is compatible with the auto empty docks (both the dry only and the mop pad cleaning Ultra). I now can't fathom having a vacuum that doesn't auto empty, as I run the vacuum nightly and it collects a lot of dust.
- the s7 comes with a silicon rather than nylon bristle main roller bruch and side brush. The new main roller design seems to resist long hairs much more than the s5, by driving the hairs to the ends of the roller. With the s5, I spent a lot of time with scissors removing hairs from the main roller. Of course, if your family doesn't shed hairs much, that may be a non issue.
The silicone side brush seems to wear out faster than the s5's nylon brush.Technically the s7 has better suction, but it's hard for me to say I can tell.
Finally, as someone who moved from one to the other, it was great to see most of the accessories are cross compatible, including the mop pads, brushes.
Does it have obstacle avoidance?
It has LIDAR and self maps your entire house - works brilliant. Would buy another if mine ever failed.
I dont think any of the roborocks do even up to S7?
I know the s7 maxv avoids obstacles struggles abit with cables but overall does very well.
Need a front facing camera or sensor to do proper obstacle avoidance, not just LIDAR.
It'll know where things are due to the lidar but in my experience it will just use this information to slow down and then it'll "bump" into the object slowly to confirm its there and to try and clean as close as possible to it (which is particularly good for getting dirt out of edges near walls). It'll also detect drops (like at the edge of stairs).
The lidar can't see small objects like earphones/pet poo on the ground and even if it could it'd likely still want to gently bump it which wouldn't go well.
For me this means keeping the floor clear of obstacles as much as I can remember to, which in itself helps me keep the house tidy (or just the bench surfaces messy lol).
There's definitely other robots around that use cameras and other sensors that do a better job with obstacles, I'm not sure at what price point though.
I have kids and a roborock but not sure what one. But hardly use it due to the fact that it cant avoid obstacles. Kinda want to set a daily clean and not need to worry about it getting stuck every time.
All depending on your house setup and everything but I know a few people will try and restrict the mess to one or two rooms with doors so they can close the doors before the vacuum does its run. It misses the room but like the rest of your house still gets done.
But that might not suit your situation at all. We've got big kids, so it's more just our old cat having the occasional accident that is the worry.
Absolutely destroys the Ecovacs T8 in terms of mapping and obstacle avoidance. Only issue I have is the relatively small bin.
My T8 has been fantastic so far with no issues with maps etc.
Mines good too. This destroys it, takes half the time to clean and is far quieter in doing so.
Good for a 15kg baby to sit on?
How about a 90kg adult?
how about a hippo
Hardly Normal's response for a price match: "Unfortunately, this item is unavailable for a price match as the competitor is currently selling this item below market value."
Ask for a definition of market value? Are they referring to RRP or the wholesale buy price?

I recently got the Aldi Ecovas for $399, its not bad but needs the auto bin attachment, I guess like this one does too.
Ecovacs was the worst robot I've had I ended up returning it because of the constant map issues.
Soon S6MaxV will go for this price due to S8 release.
It'll be a great buy when that day comes.
These are great. Considering some of the newer models can get into the $1800s, this is excellent value for what you get.
I run mine every second day and have a spare one for parts.
I have been waiting for a roborock deal for months. Guess another isn't too bad. I still have my dumb robot for now.
Argh, I get busy with real work and don't check ozbargain for not even 2 hours and I miss another Roborock deal!
Absolute game changer, I love mine and I paid $600
