I'm on 100/20 with Aussie Broadband and I get faster speeds when I have Nordvpn activated when downloading from Mega.nz anyone know why??

    With Nordvpn - 6-8 Mega Bytes p/s
    Without Nord - 1 Mega Bytes p/s

It surprised me big time cos normally speeds decreases when VPN is activated.

    • +1

Very likely to do with unreliable and/or longer routing between Aussie Broadband and mega.nz servers.

    • +4

My best guess is that your ISP may be throttling connections to Mega somewhere down the internet pipeline. With a VPN the isp can't determine where you're downloading from so it can't be throttled. Alternatively, it could be related to how the connection is routed.

      Who knows.

      • I thought that too, but my parents house also use aussie broadband and they get full speeds (10 MB/s) downloading from mega

        • +4

What do your parents download from mega?

          • @dudebargain: It was me downloading, I was at their place a few months ago

            • @Homr: have you used megabasterd? I get full speeds going through that + no download cap

      • I'm pretty sure ABB don't throttle. It's likely due to poor routing for some international destinations.

    • +1

Nord uses the likes of GSL networks in Australia, business grade connections with the best possible routing and priority. You'll probably notice the same result when doing anything international too.

      • I would've thought Aussie Broadband already have good routing already. So if I change to a cheaper ISP and enabled NordVPN, I will still get good speeds?

        • I don't know who Aussie use, but I'm with Vocus which is pretty shocking. I'm pretty much permanently connected to a Brisbane Nord server (GSL Networks) and I get much better international routing and priority.

Had nord for years but they have gone down hill there getting blocked in few places now tubi usa ,neffilx etc im up for renewal in few weeks not sure if id go with them again I'm having better success with Winscribe personally.

Posted some thoughts below but to sum it up - newish customer, not happy with speeds or the App. Previously with Surfshark. They were solid. Might go back.

      • Really? I was with nord then expired tried surfshark last month had to refund it as speeds were way slower than nord so I went back.

        • I have also been with Surfshark for nearly 3 years and need to start another subscription in may. So far very happy with speeds and apps on different platforms. But dont have anything else to compare it with tbh.

  • I signed up a few years ago and it's coming to it's end.
Could I hypothetically sign up with a new email address and get the new customer deal?

    • My 3-year subscription also ends next month in May. Thinking to get on this deal!

    • Yes

    • I did that six months ago. I simply changed email address.

  • Does this work for UFC Saudi Arabia

    • They don't have Saudi servers. Surfshark does, but how does this help you watch UFC when a Saudi IP base still says to use Fight Pass?

      • Thanks will try them. Any Arabic nation works though.

        • Works how though?

  • Any chance of those 15% uber vouchers coming back? 😁

  • Anyone canceled existing account before expiry and registered with same email?

    • +1

You cant cancel your account. Even changing email address with them is a nightmare, you can't just login to NordVPN and change your email like every other website on the internet.

Just a note for people who are getting total price US$100+ at checkout >
Try it on Cashrewards mobile app. It is still US$88.83 ($3.29/month), while it changes to $3.99/month & shows $107.73 on the checkout page in my Laptop web browser.

Also, it says "+ 3 EXTRA Months" which is misleading because the total amount includes charges for those extra three months, so we pay for 27 months (not 24).
    $3.29 x 27 = $88.83 | $3.99 x 27 = $107.73 (Please correct if I am wrong here.)

    • +1

I paid $129.07 and my cashback tracked within the hour at $120.22

      • +1

Which deal are you using? The cheapest 2 year deal is costing me $141 ?? Is that right? How are you getting it down to $129.07?

        • +1

I got the standard one of the three on offer at $88.83 for 2 years +3month bonus. Paid through US so I don't pay tax

  • Does upsold products include a Dedicated IP adding?

    • For those wondering, no it doesnt. Cashback only showed for the half covering the regular service

  • About to do my 3rd "new" customer sign-on. Nord is still good value

    • +1

For my awareness… do you need a new email address or will a previously used, but expired, account do?

      • +2

I believe you need a new e-mail address. I just get a new gmail one purely for this offer and discard it after the VPN term finished.

      • +1

        New email each time

  • I’ve made an account with them a few weeks ago, but never signed up for or paid for a plan with them.. Can I use this email? How “new” does it need to be?

    • You can, i used the same email and cashrewards tracked back yesterday

    • Worked! Cost $129.07, cashback of $120.19 pending for the "Standard" plan due to expire July 2025. Paid in USD to avoid GST. Cheers!

  • Whats better, setup VPN on router or individual devices?

I use real debrid on my tv so want to mask that

    • Depends on use case. Share and I'll offer some thoughts.
      Simplistically -
      1. If you want to move ALL traffic through a VPN, then router.
      2. If you want to move ALL traffic for specific Apps through a VPN, then best stick with the provided VPN Apps.

I guess you need 2? Install the VPN App on your TV and use the split tunnelling (whitelisting) feature.

  • Former Nord VPN customer here. Their service works well but I don't need it anymore, so didn't update my expired credit card details.

Don't let them auto renew the service. Wait until it expires, as they'll keep sending you increasingly discounted offers to retain you as a customer.

    • what's u use for, i got a vpn unlimited by monodefense trial for a yr free sooo occasionally use that.

vpns i don't see the point tbh

  • FWIW - I was with Surfshark for 2 years. Changed to NordVPN on a deal. Honestly not impressed. Use it on my CCGTW. Surfshark gave me full line speeds (to the US). The App was awesome. NordVPN hasn't been able to manage more the 60% of line speed, and the app sucks. It's nowhere as useful as Surfshark's - specifically split tunnelling. I might not bother with NordVPN for much longer. Anyway as I said FWIW YMMV.

  • If I pay it in USD, Does the tracked amount in USD or in AUD? If it is USD, do I need a new bank that accepts USD deposits for cashback?

    • Tracks in USD, but will be AUD in your Cashrewards balance.

  • Is there a way around giving Cashback my number to register an account? Any help is appreciated.

  • +1

VPN noob here. Is there any reason/benefits to use NordVPN instead of the Google One VPN that I already have on my phone?

  • How long takes to appear the purchase on Cashback website?

    • I did it yesterday and cashback confirmation email came around 2 hours later.

  • +1

Can anyone confirm using gmail alias's is enough to register as new customer on Nord? E.g. adding a "." in your gmail address or using "+"

  • So, does this mean we'd be essentially be paying $3.55 for 27 months of service? 13 cents a month?

    • +1

Rather around $9-10 after gst and all.

  • +1

Perfect timing, my current Surfshark deal runs out in a couple of days.
Followed the instructions, used the app to sign up. I used a US zip code (I always use one from New Hampshire, as they do not even have State sales tax, just in case). Paid with a Wise card.
Payment was A$129.07 and CR tracked within an hour at $120.22, so just under A$9 for 27 months.

  • +2

    Paid $258.50 -> Cashback only $121

That's not even close to 96% what gives ???

    • +1

Did you buy the extra upsold products that aren't eligible? Because that's why too high even for a card that charges currency conversion fees.

    • I had same issue, i assume i was a vpn customer before or something with nord. Going to refund it.

      • Did you buy the upsold products? We'll assume yes the terms in bold weren't read.

Good thing you can ask for a refund and try again.

        • I ended up doing a refund. Too hard basket and also GL.Inet support is terrible no Wireguard

    • I too, bought the complete product, have requested a refund XD

      • Same, mistakenly purchased NordPass too. Requested a complete refund.

  • Currently a Surfshark customer. Is this one worthwhile. No point if the speeds / overall service are not good

    Any advice / thoughts ?

    • Based on my limited use so far I would say that it is on par with Surfshark in terms of speed. Not quite up to speed myself with the different user interface but that's probably to be expected early on.
Not sure yet how to switch locations within a country, any tips welcome

  • Thanks to everyone who mentioned NordPass and NordVault not being included. Bought 2 years of standard for $129.07 and have $120.19 cashback tracked. Estimated approval is unfortunately listed as sometime in July. Does this tend to get approved earlier, or is 3 months the usual timeframe?

    • +1

No experience with Cashrewards, but I have used Shopback in the past.
Basically it takes long enough for you to forget about it and then you suddenly get an email that the cashback is ready lol.

  • FFS Expired as I was about to buy :(

  • Guys. I just checked my CashRewards account and my NORDVPN Cashback was not approved. Anyone else in the same position?
I just submitted an enquiry about it with the usual invoice number, copy of invoice and other details. FYI purchased this on 14 Jan 2023 for AU$123.96. Was expecting AU$119 back (96%).
Got it on the deal that was published on 14 Jan 2023 earlier this year.
