If it's AU version then the transformer comes with the doorbell. It's a double-wide DIN module that can be powered by normal 230V power.

There are also US-style low-voltage-AC-powered mechanical chime available on Amazon that can be used with this doorbell.

The biggest problem for the entire Unifi doorbell lineup is that none of them are directly PoE powered and signalled (G4 Doorbell Pro got a PoE adapter with data in EA though, but it really should be a part of the product in the first place). It disconnects from WiFi occasionally. When you can install ethernet cable to the door, such implementation can be quite dreadful. It also means it's open to wireless-based disconnection attack, which results in the camera can't transmit the feed for the last few seconds before it's powered off. They should have allowed ethernet installation in the first place.

        • Yeah well.. if you're in a rental.. get one if then wireless ones

          • @hippyhippy: Nope, non have built-in ethernet. G4 Doorbell Pro has PoE adapter that does power, too but it's in EA and not sold to the public yet.

You can still power up G4 Doorbell with PoE to DC converter. There are people tested it. It works fine on DC power. Though still no wired data.

            • @xmagic: Yeah their offering is half arsed… i installed this … works ok… but i have to use home assistant to get the chime to work with my sonos speakers… id rather just have their chime … its been out for a year but u cant buy it… sucks.

              • @hippyhippy: The Unifi Protect Chime is out of EA now for US$59. US-plug only and you got to import one. Wide voltage though.

I still prefer a mechanical chime because it sounds right ;)

@xmagic There’s plenty of YouTube videos on how to power this device over PoE, It’s quite easy. I’ve had mine running for over a year via this method. Mine also doesn’t disconnect every (unless for updates) - maybe you have low wifi signal?

I have exactly 0 issues with my G4 & would recommend it to anyone already in the UniFi ecosystem - unless you need more definition, in which case, go the G4 Pro

  • Wonder if this store is just on-selling them. They were $100 ($33 briefly) for a while here in NZ

  • So, do I replace my Ring doorbell with this?

  • I was planning to get this; but aqara now sells homekit compatible doorbells. Good price and great features
